Wow!! Came here for an emergency when a crown came loose, having just arrived from LA. They fit me in within a moments notice despite it being a Friday at the end of their work day. Dr J Scott was so patient, kind and thorough despite me adding a bunch of time to his workday right as he was about to leave on a Friday. He even took extra time to explain all possible future outcomes so I was prepared going forward with my tooth. I couldn't believe how much care and attention I received despite the fact that I told them I have another dentist in LA. Abs he completely resolved my issue. Quality operation all around. I was impressed by the office as a whole, but wound up going to another dentist simply because the prices were outrageous. They wanted $1800 for a crown which I wound up getting for $850 from a dentist in Rancho Mirage. I was also a bit annoyed with repeated phone messages saying that it was "URGENT" that I talk to them immediately about my treatment plan - obviously to make them more money. If they're hurting for business, I would suggest looking at their pricing structure. read more

I requested a virtual consultation weeks ago in anticipation of coming to the Desert in October. I have a complex dental case. I was trying to prepare Dr. Tom for this in advance. I am an existing patient who had a tooth unexpectedly come loose. The staff refused to accommodate a awning call with the Dr.. So I waited until my actual arrival for a live appointment, but when I went for the appointment this one not very nice staff member refused to let me speak to the Dr. before insisting on x-rays and an exam. She didn't even let me explain the reason I need to speak to him first is that the moment he removes my dental appliance to take x-rays I have 2 teeth that will be pulled out by the appliance!! I can't remove the appliance any longer. We need a game plan before I just show up and lose 2 teeth when a staff member insists on a x-rays, before the dentist even knows my current dental crisis. That was my last visit there. I will go to someone who understands not all mouths are created equal. That would have been about 20k to 30k of work for me. But I will go elsewhere. They need to get rid of Emily. The usual front office staff was out and she came out to tell me what was going to happen instead of even hearing why that was a problem. She should remain FAR away from patients. Looking forward to my new dental team. That's a shame because I liked Dr. Tom. read more

Companies have open enrollment around October/November. During open enrollment I selected the same dental plan I had the prior year because I wanted to stay with the same dentist. Palm Springs Family & Cosmetic Dentistry sent out a "Dear Patient" letter on January 1st 2017 stating that effective April 1, 2017 they will not accept the dental plan I signed up for in October/November!!! Why didn't the "Dear Patient" letter go out prior to open enrollment??? I guess they value $$$'s more than the patients they have had for years. read more

I 1st went in when i had my implant come out from another dentist. Dr. Sheppard put back on for me at a minimal cost. Nice. So then i continued to go back for my cleanings, crown and more cleanings. The price is fair, the quality of work is great. The staff from Dr. Shepard, Peta(runs the show),Cara, Maria, Diego and all others are professional and make you feel like a person not a patient. Have been going to this office now for a year. Extensive dental work needed to be done and was performed beautifully. The only problem is they over bill your insurance company with excessive charges. When you complain to them they will drop you as a patient. read more

My second visit at J Scott Shepherd, DMD I was late and feeling horrible ( looking frightful is the kindest way to put it ) for over indulging the night before. The reception was so understanding about my tardiness and immediately offered me a water. They took me in very quickly and Dr. Shephard started my exam. I never felt pressured or sold to have a cosmetic dentistry procedure ( which happens a lot these days at dentist that are special in that area ) Dr. Shepherd was so professional and took a lot of time with my exam. I had thrown their schedule off so was invited to come back in a couple of hours later to get my teeth cleaning. The cleaning was excellent ( thorough without pain ) as it was last time. I also liked that the hygienist educated me on what she was doing and and why. I like this office because they are authentically kind and I leave feeling like my gums and teeth are as clean as they possible can be and are sincere and honest in their evaluations and why the procedures they do are important for my overall dental health. I felt comfortable and in highly capable hands ( they even played good music and turned it up when I complimented). I Highly recommend this dentist office. read more

I went to Dr. Shepherd for the first time with toothaches on both sides of my mourth. He took x-rays and informed me that I had 3 cavities which would also require 3 new crowns.the price would be $4,300. I checked with my dentist in Chicago and was informed that he would have charged $3,200. I went to Vineyard Family dentistry for a second opinion. Their x-rays showed no cavities.Draw your own conclusions, but I will not be going back to Shepherd. read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr Sheppard for at least two years so far. By far, he is the best dentist I've had. You can easily tell that he has the knowledge, experience and top of the line equipment to do his job. He also has hired and trained very professional and very nice people on his staff. They are very responsive, and accomodating. When I have had trouble and needed to get in quickly, they made that happen. You can make all the dentist jokes you want, but seriously, if you need a great dentist, this is your guy. read more

Dr. Shepherd and his staff are the best! They took me late in the afternoon when I told them I had a loose crown and was away from my regular dentist for an entire week. Dr. Shepherd took x-rays, did an examination, and then advised me that the tooth would be OK until I could get home. And he did all of this on extremely short notice while the office was trying to close for the day. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more professional. Peta, the beautiful and kind,receptionist helped me with my insurance and assured me that Dr.Shepard was a good dentist. What a great experience (considering that I was in pain) - awesome technology let me see exactly what was going on in my mouth. I am currently visiting Richard B. in Palm Springs and was in need of some dental help. I dropped my partial plate and stepped on it bending the wires that hold it in place. I tried my friends dentist and they told me it required x-rays see the doctor then impressions etc etc. That was no use and seems like it would be expensive. So I drove around and found this dentists. After filling in some forms on personal information and a 15 minute wait I was seen by Dr. Shepherd and the problem was solved in a very short space of time. Excellent staff excellent treatment. Best dental experience ever!! My #1 complaint about going to doctors and dentists is the waiting! Never have I had to wait. My appointment time was confirmed via e-mail, I was there a few minutes early and was taken in ON TIME!!! Chris my hygienist today was fabulous! He didn't make me feel I was rushed yet kept a smooth pace. His customer service, just like all the other staff, was what you will probably never experience at a dental visit. He listened to my dental concerns and gave me pointers like nobody had previously. All of the dental hygienists are terrific, knowledgeable and friendly. The updated feel of the office and equipment reassures me that the most up to date technology is being used for my care. The attention to detail is important and Dr. Shepherd's office nailed it! Recently I changed jobs and now drive in the opposite direction for my bi-annual dental care. IT IS WORTH IT!!! There was no soliciting for me to write this review and I will continue to tell all my friends. This was one time the best dental practices in all of Coachella Valley. Until Dr. Shepard got too big for his britches and completely abandoned half of his patients that did not carry one of 2 types of insurance he is demanding. They informed me that 1 cleaning every six months is covered by insurance, but of course found a way to send me a $40 bill after each cleaning for "oral hygiene instruction" which is not covered by insurance. This was added when the hygienist "showed me how to floss". The billing practices have gotten shady and dumping your patients you have had for years due to not wanting to accept their insurance anymore is disturbing and a bit pompous of Dr Sheppard. read more

I'm 50 years old and have had many dentist over the years, Dr. Shepherd has assembled the best team I have ever encountered in any type of medical setting on multiple levels. 5 stars for diversity as well. I am a dental chicken, and this last round I just said how I wish we could go back to the old days without the darn water tool they use, and the hygeniest said no problem, cleaned them the old fashioned way, with a quick run through at the end with the water tool. They go out of their way to make you comfortable, the scheduling staff is just the most wonderful smiling team ever. This is the best example of customer service I've seen in years. My partner is disabled and has a disease many dentist teams can get very freaked about, not here, my partner is treated with respect and care, no shaking by any of the team; they know and take the known precautions that any dental team should be doing with every patient. There is good reason every review is 5 stars on this website. These guys deserve your business, just leave room for those of us already having found this jewel. read more
