Love J Michaels! I've been coming here for years. I've bought jackets, shoes and bags here. They always have a huge variety of the latest fashions. I love stopping by and checking out the new merchandise. They recently have redone the store and it looks newer and classier. I almost didn't recognize it. I NEVER write reviews, but my experience at this store was so distasteful I need to share and apologize in advance for the length of my review. I walked into this store with a question about a Patagonia return purchased out of state and to try on Canada goose coats to replace it, which I fully intended to purchase if one fit, despite their ability to handle my return. I worked with a great sales associate who helped me find a perfect fitting coat and I planned to buy it. The manager walked over without knowing any detail of my conversation/intent to buy the coat and said "Patagonia sales is in a meeting and I can't handle the return right now." I replied "ok that's fine I'll bring it to the post office with the packing slip Patagonia had already provided me, but you're price on this Canada Goose is $25 dollars more than Neiman Marcus and the Canada Goose store." Thinking he'd reply with something reasonable like "we'll match the price," or something understandable like "I can't keep up with large scale stores and I need to keep my doors open, too." Again, I was already planning on buying the coat. Instead he replied "then go take your $25 somewhere else." As a customer about to spend over $1,000 I said calmly "that is no way to treat a customer, for what reason are you giving me this attitude?" He replied "you threatened me by saying the coat cost less at another retailer." Then started to walk away as if our conversation was over. I explained to the back of his head as he walked away, and my sales associate, that it was in no way my intent to "threaten anyone." He turned around and said "maybe I misunderstood you then," but then continued to walk away. My sales associate stood by knowing full well his boss had just blown any chance of me giving the store a nickel of my money and tried to recover by saying the coat looked great on me and apologized for his boss. Long review short. I'm a resident at Upstate medical center who treats/sees 20-30 patients a day and I'm on residency for 3 years. Syracuse is a snow globe and winter apparel is regular conversation when you live here. Do the math of how many people I'm going to explain this negative experience to. He had not one ounce of ineterest in recovering the sale, or in saving what could/would have been a great customer relationship because I routinely purchase all the brands/gear this store sells. I also like to shop local and would have happily paid full price for the coat had his reaction been different. Good job J Michael shoes, you've lost more than one customer! read more

The buyers of JMichaels must take a daily stroll around Syracuse University campus and tally up the most popular items they see; ie: Black North Faces, Ugg boots, Hunter boots, and Seven jeans, and decide.... hmmm, this stuff must be cool, that's why everyone is wearing it, we have to only sell this stuff ! I guess from a marketing standpoint it's good for them, sell everything that everyone wears.....except, JMichaels sells what they think that we think is cool. Big problem, just because a lot of people wear North Faces and Ugg boots in Syracuse does not mean that's what we want to see in a store. JMichaels is so predictable and boring I cringe everytime I pass it. JMichaels is perfect for tools who think buying a Lacoste Polo and Northface will make them cool. Maybe it makes you cool going to class at Syracuse for about 10 minutes but trust me, in the long run, YOU LOSE ! read more

Big surprise. A store with brand names at ridiculous prices right by SU. I've been in a couple times and bought things ranging from American Apparel leggings to True Religion jeans. Its a total tease because you can't afford ANY of it going to SU unless you are filthy rich. They have all the brand names to keep the rich kids happy, thats for sure. read more

Pricey store but they do sell a quite a few "Made in the USA" stuff. They do carry a lot more attractive trendy items, Some worth the buy and some not. You can spoil your self sometimes. I got my daughter some cute New Balance shoe but it did put dent in my pocket. read more

jmichaels is the place SU japs go when they want to buy seven jeans and ugg boots. its the only store in syracuse brands like that are available. its sort of strange because about ten years ago jmichaels was the place hippies went to get their birkenstocks. i think jmichaels is a cross between a place for longislanders to get their true religions and hippies to get their crocs...but whatevs, cover both ends of the spectrum and youre guaranteed to make some money... read more
