I came to the Seattle Foot and Ankle Center with John Hoy for assistance with a toe nail. Dr. Hoy was thorough in discussing the available options with me and setting expectations. I was surprised that he was able to do an avulsion in office on the same visit as my initial appointment which worked great for me. He was very willing to answer any questions that I had. I have been seeing Doctor Hoy for the last year for an issue I was facing for basically my entire life and today I can say through his services, he found a treatment for me that eliminated the pain I had in my feet. He is no flashy doctor, but definitely an informative professional. At first, I had doubts, but after spending the costs I found myself fully satisfied. Honestly, pain in your feet or legs can go unattended for years like it was for me, but treating them has been one of the best health care decisions I have made in my life, and that is mostly thanks to Doctor Hoy. Will respond to the gibberish response given by the doctor's office to my previous review about this offices bait and switch pricing. Basically they said that the patient is responsible for all copays and what is not covered by insurance. That is not the issue here. I am happy to pay for what's not covered by insurance. The issue is that they jacked up the actual billed amount by 50% claiming that the original bill was an estimate. The original bill clearly says receipt and nowhere does it say that they can increase the actual bill. Yes, the copay amount can change (and I don't refute that), but not the actual bill. Never actually got to see Dr. Hoy. I had a 10am appointment and was kept waiting until 11am - at that point I left they let an established patient go in front of me (apparently established patients get precedence over new patients) and it wasn't clear when or if I'd actually see the doctor. Also, I had to ask Ava the receptionist to keep her mask on about 5-6 times. Given we're right in the middle of the Omicron variant (1.4M new cases yesterday!) I thought this was a reasonable request and was surprised she wouldn't keep it on despite my repeated requests. He may be great, I just felt my time wasn't being respected after waiting an hour past my appointment. read more

My experience at Dr. Hoy's office was fast, caring, and productive. I have had all kinds of issues with my feet as a result of high arches, hyper mobility, and long days in the mountains/in ski boots. I wasn't going to, but after explaining it all to my PCP yesterday, I realized it owe it to the rest of you out there, take heed. It's a scam. Maybe Ava and Dr. Hoy didn't used to be one, but they are now. 1. You will do all the work. You will fill out all your information, what a nurse does normally, in most doctor's offices. You will fill out your entire medical history, so if you insist on seeing him, if you fall for that 5 stars (it's on his Facebook page, not real reviews), start gathering up all your medical history now. You will call, first, any previous Podiatrists and ahve those records transferred into Ava (at Dr. Hoy's) first. They will not be doing it for you. You'll have to enter all info. for Ava, she's just the aggressive one of the partnership. What kind of partners they are, don't know. They use a patient portal called Mozart MD. 2. Be prepared for Dr. Hoy to decline to do surgery, even when he agrees it's necessary, even when he has told you what needs to be done, when your PCP found because s/he got the MRI images and hit the roof, etc etc etc. Be prepared for Dr. Hoy to not even put you on a list to wait for when "elective" surgeries can be done again. In fact, don't go see him, go see a real PDM who really does do foot surgery. If all you want it someone to scrape your corns for you, okay, maybe. He can do that. So can a $1.00 foot file from The Dollar Tree in south Seattle, or Burien. 3. Be Prepared for Ava to hit you up on leaving, for a $450.00 set of orthotics first. Cash up front, even for you Medicare, and (get this!) Medicaid, patients. She's gonna ask for it to be pre-paid, and they promise to reimburse you IF your ins company pays all or part of it. Even when Ava already knows Medicaid will pay for part or all of it. Yes, even when Dr. Hoy agrees what you need is surgery, instead, because your foot is "disintegrating" from within. Yup, it's illegal as all get out, but still Ava does that, on leaving, during the "checking out" portion. Dr. Hoy doesn't do it, Ava does it, when you leave. Even after you've made jokes about some previous DPM giving you a pair of special modified "orthotics" for $50 that made you almost fall over while trying to walk in them. I guess they make extra points if they can treat broken feet created that way. 4. Be prepared for Ava to tell you that "it's your responsibility to know what your insurance company covers or not" even though the one or two insurance companies involved is Medicare or Medicaid. Since both would require Pre-Authorizations to do, it's a forgone conclusion she'd find out if it's covered before doing anything. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review, but after receiving three emails in a row from their office asking for a review, I figured I'd better do it. Dr. Hoy is very nice and knowledgeable, but Ava is super disorganized which made the wait irritating (though she is pleasant and friendly). I had a 2:00 appointment and was told to be there by 1:45. From previous Yelp reviews, they seemed strict about being on time, so I made sure I got there promptly at 1:45. I had already emailed Ava my paperwork weeks ahead of time. I emailed it twice actually because she couldn't locate it the first time. "Thanks!" was her email response back to me, confirming she had the paperwork after that second attempt, weeks before I arrived for my appointment. When I arrived, Ava asked me to fill out paperwork... Really? You mean the paperwork I sent you twice already? The paperwork you already confirmed you received? So I had to locate the email on my phone with the attachment and send it a third time... She then was able to review it, print it out, and let Dr. Hoy review it as well. I only paid for parking until 3:00, so I started to panic when I was still in the waiting room at 2:40 (I got there at 1:45, mind you) and still had not been brought back. My wait probably would have been cut in half had she printed out the paperwork ahead of time that I had already sent her twice before I arrived (!!!!)... (I was also the only other person in the waiting room!) Anyway, I was finally brought back, and it ended up being a pointless appointment (mainly my fault - I should have cancelled when I realized my issue had basically gone away since the day I booked the appointment back in May), and I was out of the office by 2:55, with just enough time to move my car. Even though Dr. Hoy was really nice, I don't think I'd go back. They're just way too disorganized for me. I don't think I'd trust them with future scheduling/paperwork/payments. read more

I went to see Dr. Hoy for a routine shaving of corns on my pinky toes. This is a basic procedure that I have done twice a year for the past 5 years by podiatrists in my former city. Dr. Hoy over cut my left pinky toe creating a bleeding open wound. Two months later and I still have immense pain and am unable to exercise nor wear most shoes. I was forced to wear flip flops in Seattle in October. This man is completely incompetent. I will never seek treatment from him again and would not recommend his botched services to anyone. On top of his inept medical ability, he is extremely unprofessional and rude. I returned 5 days after he over cut my toe to seek any possible remedy. I requested not to be charged for this visit since he had caused the issue. Instead of simply declining to extend this as a courtesy appointment, he screamed at me relentlessly for even asking. He was completely unhinged. I have never seen a professional of any kind behave in that manner. I was shaken after this horrific encounter with him. No person, especially one seeking care deserves to be treated that way. Do not see Dr. Hoy if you value your mobility. read more

We would like to thank Dr Hoy for his incredibly high level of care and professionalism on the diagnosis and treatment on my daughter's recent foot injury. She fell from 15 feet height at a climbing gym and 3 bones fractured. Dr Hoy was able to quickly diagnosis the injury and provided the best treatment plan for her foot. He started with thorough office exam on her injured foot, listened to my daughter's every concern and answered all questions attentively, then followed up with us consistently with instructions in great details. The healing went great as expected by Dr. Hoy. Ava the assistant is very nice & kind. She helped make our office visit a heartwarming & cheerful experience. It took me several tries just to get someone from their office to respond to my request for an appointment, and then after the ridiculously long phone call to schedule the appointment and all the time it took me to fill out the several pages of new patient forms which they asked me to FAX them, I find out that they've cancelled my appointment a week before. Expect long waits, even when waiting to be seen on the scheduled date/time. I was scheduled for a follow up appointment for today 1/13/17 at 9am. I walked in at 9:03am, checked in and I was told by the receptionist "sorry, you were not here at 9:01am and we had to take the next patient. This patient arrived 10 minutes ago (8:53am) and she was scheduled for a 9:30am" . Really? a patient scheduled for a 9:30am comes in 40 minutes prior to his/her appointment to sit around and wait?!?! I call it BS. It seems it's ok for the Dr. Hoy and his team to have patients wait but not ok to wait 5 minutes for a patient to show up? Really? The lady in the front desk proceeded to tell me that she has always been instructed to WAIT ONE 1 MINUTE if a patient is running late. I will definitely will follow through not only with my insurance company but also with BBB. Way to treat your patients! I really liked Dr Hoy on the first visit. I liked his retro office and his down to earth caring approach. Unlike some other podiatrists, he doesn't automatically assume standard 3 course, "x-ray, exam and steroid shot". He listened and explained well and helped me pick a choice of treatment. Pros: - The people there are very polite. - Dr. Hoy was knowledgeable and seemed enthusiastic. Cons: - Inserts did not help. It ways hard to tell the difference from store bought ones. - Quality of inserts do not seem durable. It will last for walking but definitely not for exercise. - Uneven shoe wear still exists. - Too expensive I have achilles tendonitis on one foot for several years now (I'm 35 years old). I am at a healthy weight (weigh 170lbs) and exercise daily. I was hoping this alternative would reduce the pain, but do not see any results. I've had them for 8 months now and I wish I saved my money for better shoes instead. This may work for older and maybe more severe foot impairments, but I would just recommend massaging your legs, especially your calves, to circulate more blood flow to the feet. read more

Dr. Hoy and I started off on a bad foot: the one that I injured while running. When it came to my injury, he didn't tip-toe around the issue, and he didn't cut corners just for kicks. The doctor hit the ground running with his diagnosis. I haven't walked a mile in Dr. Hoy's shoes, but I trust him. With years of clinical experience, he certainly has a leg to stand on. I would recommend Dr. Hoy's practice to a friend because podiatry offers an ample supply of puns and dad jokes. Also, he'll fix your foot. read more

I can only say that I found Ava (Dr. Hoy's receptionist) to be extremely pleasant and efficient. I was very thankful to have gotten an appointment and to have been able to fill out the forms prior to my coming to Dr. Hoy's office. I was unable to fax the info so I arrived earlier. Ava greeted m in a friendly manner and let me know Dr. Hoy was running a little late. He was seeing a patient and another was waiting who was mentally challenged. Ava was very patient and kind to her the whole time. When my husband and I went into Dr. Hoy's exam room, he was friendly and professional. While I had experienced this same problem before, he asked me the proper questions, examined my foot thoroughly and suggested x-rays of my foot. After looking at the films, he decided to give me a shot of Cortisone after being doubly certain I wasn't allergic and prepared me for the method he would use and the feelings I could experience. He made sure to get the needle to the affected spots. He informed me of possible reactions and gave me an information sheet about Cortisone. I have seen several podiatrists over my 66 years and Dr. Hoy was the most professional and gentle of all of them. I would not only recommend him to all others but also see him again for any other foot problems myself.He is a credit to the medical profession! read more

I was injured in an industrial injury last year and it involved my feet. I was assigned to see Dr. John Hoy for a supposed INDEPENDENT Medical Exam. I had seen two of my own podiatrists prior to my visit with Dr. Hoy and both indicated I had a severe case of Plantar Fasciitis. However, when I went to see Dr. Hoy at Seattle Panel of Consultants. What a joke!!! I saw this bozo (Dr. Hoy) and he did a complete exam that took 10 minutes total. The other two doctors devoted over an hour each to my exam. Dr. Hoy sent a report to the State reporting me to be in perfect health. I noticed during the appointment the doctor stared at his desk when asking me questions, as if he felt guilty. Yes folks, It appears Dr. Hoy is on the take! My company hired him and my company prevailed due to Dr. Hoy and his dishonesty. Gee Dr. Hoy didn't you take an oath to watch out for your patients, not to watch out for your wallet? I am sure your wallet is big from the IME's you perform. Don't see this jerk! read more
