My wife and I bought a house in PQ last September. The house was remodeled and updated in the master bathroom and kitchen. Although the builders did some nice touches to the house, we weren't thrilled with it. To top it off, the furniture we had from our old house was boring, too matchy-match and cheap looking. Since our house was an upgrade from our last, we wanted to to things right and make it the house that we always wanted. We've watched HGTV and shows of the like that had interior makeovers and what not and we knew we wanted something like that done as well. We had no idea what to expect from working with an interior designer. We contacted a couple of designers before we contacted Jessica. The first two designers seemed uninterested with working with us. Not sure why but it could be the layout of the house, the size of the job or maybe just us that they felt they just didn't want to take on our project. Fine by us. We contacted Jessica. She was referred to us by my wife's co-worker. Jessica and Amy came out to our house and we just loved their energy and the way they handled things. They asked us questions about our preferences and ideas and from there they went to work. They always were available to us when we had questions and they always updated us in each phase of the project. We knew what we were spending and for what and where. They did our dining room, conversation room, master bedroom and living room. These were the rooms that were the focal point of the house and wanted to make it special when we entertain and have guests. They took our preferences and put together the most stunning designs from furniture to paint to everything else in between. We would have never thought of the color scheme, furniture selection, artwork or accessories that they put together. That's why they are the professionals! On the install day, we were in awe. We could not believe this was our house! Everyday we come home and we just sit here and pinch ourselves. We keep saying, "wow, this is our house!" SO lets just say I am creatively challenged! I have never had an ounce of decorating skills. I now have a new office that I needed to have look professional yet inviting. I described to Jessica exactly what I wanted and gave her my style likes which were very vague and Man did she nail it! I can not get over how much she understood of what I wanted by making a one sentence comment to her. I have received so many compliments on my office space. We have a condo in the Coronado Cays and did a complete remodel. Jessica gave us the name of an excellent draftsman who created a design with her. Once that was compete Jessica and Amy did the rest from paint colors, tile selection and placement, cabinet design, bath vanities, doors, hardware, etc. It was a challenge for us because we live in Phx. They keep us informed on the progress with photos and many phone conferences. I couldn't be more happy! The place looks amazing! Every time I come to our vacation home in San Diego I get a little sad about how ugly our design turned out and a little upset that Jessica had intentionally overcharged us for some items. At our interview, Jessica said she gets designer discounts and would pass it along. When I asked her why she didn't tell me she was going to mark up items so significantly for decor she bought at Z Gallery she threw the contract at me stating that she could mark up items 30% without telling me. Some items were marked up over 100% and in addition she charged me for calling Z Gallery to negotiate her discount (see the time billing statement). Also, we got charged more time for inputting orders into the "studio web" and other clerical work than actual design time. In fact, Jessica and her team only visited the house once to design the house. She charged us restocking fees for items we refused to put in our house and when we called the company where she purchased the item from, they told us there was no restocking fee. When asked for the receipt to prove that she was charged a restocking fee, she refused saying she didn't have to show us any receipts. Jessica also refused to patch up holes that were made for some items that were returned and some redesigned areas we had to have redone, and we spent thousands on extras like warehouse, storage, delivery and set up fees that, while the wording is in the contract, are not quantified until you get your bill...surprise! I ended up paying over $150,000 for the design and furniture and I'm still just so disappointed. I've worked with other designers for our other homes and businesses and never felt so ripped off. read more

I have used J. Hill for a couple of projects. Awesome is the only word to describe this company. Initially they came in when I bought my home and helped me with colors and design and furniture layout. Recently, I decided to do a kitchen remodel to a tropical feel. Jessica and Amy came out and discussed some ideas. I was very comfortable as they figured out exactly what would work best. They came back with a design and off we went. Amy was in charge and setup meetings with my contractor, cabinet makers, etc. Amy actually was more like the project manager than designer. She kept everyone on schedule and let everyone know that she has very high expectations and there is no compromising. I stay busy and as much as I like to stay on top of details, I couldn't. Amy, made it all very easy. She would supply a couple of options to each aspect of the kitchen remodel. She gave me a selection of paint colors, cabinet style and stain, sink style, counter top edging and more. I was shown how all of this would go together and complement each other. I never would have figured this out myself. Amy met me at 3 different stone slab yards to help me pick out the right slabs for my counters. The Sea Pearl Quartzite was amazing. I even learned how important the little details like cabinet pulls are and proper placement. They even had this idea to do a basket weave leather insert into some of my cabinet doors...so cool. Amy and Jessica were on top of my project from start to finish. I had the pleasure of meeting many of their team members along the way and all were exceptional and focused. I would make the highest recommendation for J. Hill Interiors. Don't waste your time....just call them! You will be happy you did! read more

Yelpers, this woman was in my home. I bought a Groupon! Further proof. Jessica handed me her card, which I can upload a photo of & asked me to leave her a review after I used her services. She had one or two good ideas on what to remodel but they weren't what I'd hired her for nor asked about. Her website pictures looked like she had wonderful taste, but I didn't experience that genius side of her. I'm now so glad I didn't take out a brand new window and put in doors as she suggested. Her second "good idea" required me to go to a specific company. I wish to this day I could have followed through with that. I asked her in person and again via email for the name of the company and for some reason she wouldn't divulge anything. She was on the clock & being paid for her expert advice and yet she never would tell me where I could have the paint removed from my kitchen cabinet doors. I was left with the impression I'd have to pay her to come out again, or she would have to be paid more to make these calls to her contractors & connections. She wants a $ cut of everything. Just be honest if you want to make sure you get a referral fee, it's unfair to withhold information from a paying customer. She also said she had a wonderful floor guy, but again I couldn't get his name from her so the entire 2 hour consult was a complete waste of my time and money. I felt ripped off to put it plainly. Her choices of paint colors for my home ended up looking hideous once the samples were on the walls. I'd told everyone I would be hiring an interior designer to ensure I had the best looking house in the neighborhood. Friends came by to look at the paint samples and all I heard was "yuck". I'm so glad I only bought the smallest sizes as nothing worked. That was a major disappointment. She arrived to my appointment late eluding that her not being able to find my home was somehow my fault (no GPS?) and then she was tired so she left early without asking if I had anything else I needed her help. I'd paid for 2 hours of her time and she short changed me about 20 minutes. She forgot to make a single suggestion for the only bathroom and it needed a total remodel. I was willing to pay her to come back and try her color wheel again, but after emailing me to say she'd love to help me again, she never returned my call when I said the paint didn't look good. She asked how much money I had to invest in the house. I hadn't thought about it and price was really not an issue so I picked $50,000 to start. Maybe that wasn't enough to interest her. I'm befuddled as to why there are so many 5 star reviews when I had such a poor experience. I wanted to be a thrilled customer too. She seemed to be a very nice Christian lady. Her attire was far too casual for a professional business woman. It was awkward as I did not want to see her right butt cheek with a thick black line fish tattoo. In her reply she said she no visible tattoos. Like plumbers crack, it was exposed in my face. Shall we take it to a medical review to see who saw what Jessica. Anyone that can't handle the honest the truth needs to be exposed fully and completely stripped naked I gather. In closing if you use her services and have a room that's off limits, lock the door or speak up. She opened a closed door and walked right into a private room where she was not invited to enter. It was the only time I felt like I had a Lookie loo casing the house and not a designer. Thanks Yelp for not removing my review. Since Jessica wasn't honest. I lowered it to one star. Jessica helped me fix up my room while my husband was away with the Navy. I wanted to surprise my husband with an organized space that felt like a "mini-vacation" when he entered. Jessica helped me move the furniture around in a way that I could not have come up on my own. The new position of my bed shows off the unique angles of the roof and makes the room look more interesting. We went with a "posh-cabin feel", which my husband loved! She also helped me set up pictures and a mirror on an overwhelming size of a wall. The pictures are clustered perfectly and the wall looks professionally done. Jessica was amazing! I was looking for an HGTV home remodel experience and she gave us that! She created a beautiful home for us with very little direction. Our only idea we came into the project was the color of the interior. . , .She planned the rest for us!! We were living overseas with a 16 hour time difference while we planned out our remodel for our home in San Diego. She was willing to work at odd hours, sent us photos of choices, kept us up to date on the costs, and worked with our renters to gain access into our home. I first hired Jessica to do the Master bedroom in my new house. Due to an out of state move and costs associated with buying a new home I needed the room done in a very cost conscious way. Jessica was so good about this and sourced materials and items from less expensive vendors. The bedroom came out beautifully and on budget. Since that time Jessica has added a built in bar in the living room and added a beautiful niche in the master. She has chosen blinds, drapery, rugs, paint colors and reupholstered 2 chairs. She has been so good about doing things slowly, a piece at a time, so as not to overwhelm my finances. I have also been impressed with all the trades people she has recommended from painters to window treatment people to cabinet builder. Jessica is definitely a sweet heart and a talented designer. This was a difficult project that we gave to J Hill Interior Design. I am on the Home Owner Association Board in a very large Condo Complex. Just getting through the Board process was very challenging, as the Board has to be very conservative and careful on how the homeowners' money is spent. Our lobby was in dire need of help. It had recent beautiful and very expensive work done on tile flooring. But then, the furniture pieces were being purchased, one piece at a time without a plan. The pieces that were being purchased were becoming a hodgepodge look and it was time to stop the nonsense before it was too late. There was a lot of push back from the HOA Board every step of the way that we would even consider using an Interior Designer. Of course, the homeowners were very much willing on wanting to design the lobby themselves. The problem is, none of them are actual designers and they each had their personal ideas that would not benefit the entire community. This condo complex houses young adults all the way up to the elderly. J Hill Interior Design was interviewed and passed through a 4 month process of getting to the point where the very tough Board finally agreed to the final approval of the furniture. The board insisted we needed to keep the furniture that was already purchased that did not go well together. I personally thought we were throwing good money after bad and would of rather sold off the recently bought furniture that was a mistake and have Jessica start over. I had great confidence in Jessica but looking at the existing furniture she needed to work with, I definitely had concerns on the final look. The day of installation, Jessica was under fire with many residents passing through and giving her their 2 cents. She was very pleasant to them and continued working with her own plan. By the end of the evening, when the project was just about complete, I visited the lobby to view the project and was amazed how the lobby had been transformed. It was beautiful. The furnishings Jessica had purchased had tied together with the previous hodgepodge pieces. She somehow managed to make everything go together beautifully. I believed she would do a great job with what she had to work with, but never expected this outcome with the challenges that were thrown at her. Jessica truly mastered it!!
