There are obvious cues that this store doesn't care about their male customers. First, the door is always locked, forcing all customers to walk through the Women's side. When we visit the Hamptons...we especially enjoy East Hampton...why? Because there is the BEST J. Crew store in the country that we patronize every time we're in town. The store is unbelievably well stocked and displayed but most importantly it is extremely well run. The attention to detail and the superior customer service and focus makes you WANT to support such an AMAZING brick and mortar store. Sure we could always shop on line but the personal assistance and wealth of knowledge about all J. Crew merchandise gives us confidence our purchases are PERFECT! Special thanks to Amanda who manages an incredible kids department. She is amazingly customer focused friendly personable and professional and very kind. She always is and has been SO helpful in directing us to the exact right clothing and accessories for our grandkids! Her expertise brings constant joy for us as we see our grandson and granddaughter enjoying their clothes. Finally we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Kerry, East Hamptons store location store manager and her entire staff. You can tell when a store is extremely well managed and associates are customer service driven. Loved this store and I loved the way it was designed and decorated. The sales lady that helped us out over the weekend was the sweetest gal and was a hoot to shop with. I actually just went in for socks because I ran out during our long trip but ended up walking out with much more. Yes, our saleswomen was that good. It's been awhile since I've been to J. Crew so I've forgotten what great things they have in here. I'll certainly be making this one of my shops back home in San Diego, for sure. The fall fashion here is fantastic. I so their blazers they had in stock and so desperately wanted that plaid schoolboy blazer but resisted. I figured if I couldn't stop thinking about it when I got home....get it! What an insane, insane, insane place this is. If you want to be disgusted by humanity, go right ahead in. Especially on a weekend afternoon in the summer. Personally, I'll order online (more likely you'll find me at an outlet, anyway). The place is designed like a Manhattan apartment-- thin, crowded, and disorganized. The staff could not possibly be more useless if they tried. Women are everywhere with giant shopping bags and text message conversations and will just barrel through at random intervals. Men are running around trying on straw hats and highlighter-colored pants. Just overall a total disaster of a shopping experience. read more

Really surprised by negative reviews. I have always found the staff EXTREMELY helpful. Maybe, like any one, busy pushy people on a crazy summer weekend can be overwhelming. Sometimes good to take in the situation. My most recent visit was great. Sales person, Beth, very helpful even just after Thanksgiving MEGA shopping. She pointed out items that were sale items and reduced even more. I was asked at check out who was my salesperson, I did not know. I went and asked. Made me realize, we ask people to bend over backwards to help us and we don't even know their names. Yes, now I will make sure to ask their names. Beth is well worth remembering. This review is for the East Hampton store. P.S. Anyone who has an issue with the layout of the store should keep in mind it is a small store in a small town. We went this Saturday January 17th to look for a coat for my daugther. We bought few items all for winter. We ask what was the sale and were told that nothing was on sale. This seems very strange since all stores do have sales in January for their winter items. Only one sweater was tagged with a lower price but when the saleswoman punched it in the cash register, it was double then the tag price. I inquire and she said: ok will fix it. I was told that JCrew was not planning a sale in the coming week. I look on my computer when I got home to found out that all items were on sales with 50% discount and that a 40% discount was available on all of them!!! For Instore purchases!!!! I went the next morning and returned all items. The saleswoman was hidding in shame that her scam was discovered! Please! This place is run by highly dishonest persons to say the least! read more
