YELP REVIEW of Good Guys Cars & Trucks Inc. located at 173 Bath Road Brunswick, Me 04111…read moreOwned and operated by Guy Converse and Dominic D'Alessio. Two gentlemen that have been in the used car business for many decades. As Good Guys used autos and trucks they have a niche business plan whereby most of the used cars they buy are acquired from local new car dealerships. They buy the trade-ins. The condition of the acquired vehicles is for the most part know. The 2021 Ford F-150 that they sold me deviated from their standard business plan. It was acquired at an auction in Texas. Maybe they were attracted by the salt free roads in Texas. A number of issues have arisen since my purchase on 9/11/24. When I came to pickup the truck after the purchase I was told a new battery had to be purchased (by them). They installed the new battery and I took delivery of the truck. The next day when the truck was at my home (Nobleboro) , the battery was dead. I jumped the battery and went back to Brunswick. Guy of GG said it must be a bad new battery. I got the new different battery, went home and the next morning the battery charge was depleted. After 2 (two) more trips to Brunswick a mechanic replaced a faulty fuse circuit board. There was no charge(monetary) for this battery issue. It took (4) 60 mile trips to Brunswick to get it right. GG has a 1 bay garage but have trouble with staffing a skilled mechanic. 4 Wheel Drive Issue On October 31, 2024 ( 50 days after purchase) I was in Friendship hauling a boat out and needed the 4 wheel drive, the truck would not go into and come out of 4 wheel drive and warning lights appears on the dash saying SERVICE VEHICLE -DO NOT DRIVE. I called Guy at GG and told him I was having the truck hauled to Brunswick. After several days Guy told me he had the mechanic look at the truck and there was no problem and he had driven the truck several miles. I had no reason to use 4 wheel drive until the first January snow storm and the same issue as in October appeared. At this time I did what I should have done before the truck was purchased--I took it to my local garage (certified inspection station) and had a computerized system scan performed. Error codes displayed for the 4 wheel drive, A/C system and the mechanic reported the truck was out of alignment and had excessive front tire wear because of the alignment issue. I took the truck to another mechanic (certified inspection station) for a second opinion and schedule the work if needed. I advised Guy at GG of the issues and I needed it repaired. Maine Towing and Collision of Waldoboro diagnosed and repaired the faulty 4 WD system for $886.45. Dominic D'Alessio had issued a 6 month extended warranty with a 3rd party (ASC), but this company declined to cover the repair. Dominic D'Alessio said he GG would not reimburse the repair. At the time of the diagnosis I had driven the truck less than 3000 miles. FRONT END ALIGNMENT-BALL JOINT- TIRE WEAR ISSUE While the truck was at Maine Towing and Collision the mechanic confirmed the truck was out of alignment and the ball joints were in need of replacement. I told the mechanic when I bought the truck it had a less than one month old vehicle inspection sticker. I asked the mechanic if the ball joints could be wore this badly in 5 months driven less than 3000 miles (from the time of the sticker being applied to the time of his inspection). He said it was an issue to be pursued. The repair estimate is for $1,039.19. from Maine Towing and Collision. Dominic D'Alessio said he would not reimburse this repair. I need to now appeal to the state of Maine State Police inspection division to investigate a possible inspection sticker issue. There was an A/C system issue that was reported to GG on September 18, 2024. With the assistance of Guy of GG the repair was completed March 13, 2025. 6 months after the initial report. GG purchase more than 100s of used cars each year. I purchase 1 vehicle every 5 years. I have never had such an unsatisfactory used vehicle purchase in my 50 years of buying vehicle. My advice is if you go to GG deal with Guy. Have the vehicle thoroughly evaluated by an independent certified mechanic. An except from GG mission statement reads, "we are proud of the quality used cars we sell and our dedication to serve the needs of our customers" . in my case the GG mission did not ring true. To be completely fair, the vehicles GG buy from their local car dealerships are known and are satisfactory. However my truck was purchased in a Texas auction and I know it had surprises. In my last conversation with Dominic he said customers are not getting new cars they are used vehicles. He is correct, but when I purchased a 2021 truck for $27,000+ I expected more than what I have gotten. For the repairs listed my $27,000 truck is costing an additional $1900! Go to craigslist car listing by owner and dealer http://maine.craigslist.org/cta/ Narrow down make, price, and year. Our first pick: put Less than $3000, then looked for newer than year 2000 and less than 140,000 miles... Second pick: just typed Prius, and compared year, miles, and price Tip 2: Ask around and keep your eye on the used car dealer on the way to the target dealer or private owner for the test drive. We were recommended "Craft Auto" on 196 and saw cheap cars less than $3000 at "The shop" on 196 (Lisbon) Tip3: Google certified dealers and call them to find out if they sell the car (color, model, package, year) you want and price. Tip4: Find out price and availability of the car in Hawaii through craigslist and calling dealer in Hawaii. This help you to pick what kind of car you want ( considering price depreciation, premiums) I personally also checked price in Japan with Carsensor considering many scenarios. Checking price in Hawaii helped me to get more discount, when dealer was trying to give me only $4000 discount. "It is exact same price with ones in Hawaii!! I can not buy anything which is not cheaper than ones in Hawaii. New car depreciate $8000 immediately after we purchase. How can we resell the car??" Like that ....Having more information help you to get the best deal. Tip5: Price negotiation Always have the price from Kellybluebook, consumer guide. Never buy over priced. Dig more info. with Carfax and cost of owning price. Google any discount, coupons, you can find before you buy (Ex. $750 USAA member discount) Important advice from Captain: Make sure if under the car is not rusted (Typical for the car 5 year or older ) and make sure to get " under coated to prevent the rust from snow and salt". As for registration in Hawaii, while you are in Maine, will be added later.
