Had to update my review because out of all the times I've been here I finally found something I wasn't pleased with. I got "tiramisu" slices the other day and it was just a vanilla sheet cake with vanilla cream layered and a cocoa powder dusting. I could tell from looking at it in the case that it wasn't lady fingers but I thought atleast the cake might be soaked in espresso. There was indeed no espresso in it and it just tasted like a vanilla cake with cocoa powder. I still stand by thenm and would recommend people to go there, just don't get the "tiramisu" read more

This is a great Italian bakery. The lobster tail was huge and generously stuffed with fresh French cream. It was incredibly crispy and delicious. Highly recommend checking this bakery out! read more

J & M Bakery - Fresh lobster tail with French cream - Bakeries Near Me - Middletown, New Jersey

I find them especially the older woman behind counter to be unfriendly and rude . I took out a cake from the freezer ..yes there is a sign that said ask for help..this woman freaked out yelling "don't touch "!!!. "Ok too late now "!!' It was unnecessary and hilarious at the same time since me and my brother still bring it up all the time and crack up. It's always been like that there. Not the most welcoming place . The apple pie was tiny and terrible too. Threw it away . read more

I love this bakery! I will drive out of my way to get my baked goods here because it is so good. From the bread to the pastries, everything I have ever tried here is excellent! Rugelach is amazing, and the chocolate cream pie is to die for! And the fact that they are open late every day of the week is a huge bonus! Thank you J&M Bakery -- keep up the great work! read more

Nicest people ever! Great treats and snacks along with a good atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Can't make this stuff up. I went in for the first time today to check it out and ended up buying a few things. But in the middle of my selection process, I got a very important phone call. Mind you, I was the only person in the store, and was on the phone for less than 30 seconds when the elderly woman behind the counter started giving me dirty looks and then telling me "$15!" DURING my call!? She wanted me to stop my phone call and pay for the two items I had, when I wasn't even finished selecting! Not only completely rude, but terrible business! I actually thought of just walking out and not buying anything. Well, I will never go back again, so they lost a lot more of my business. Sorry, but she needs to go. read more

We used to go to Dixie-lee, which seems to forget who their loyal customers were. We had a few big holiday orders and J&M helped us out in a pinch. They were helpful, and reasonable price wise. The product was fresh and delicious. Because of that we did a personal small birthday cake for the family... it was a hit. It should be noted it was a special order done to perfection. Walking in to the bakery is an experience in itself. The smells and all the cakes just elicit old world bakery feel and atmosphere, the staff are sweet and smiling. It warms the heart and feeds the soul. Its out new place and highly recommend. read more

Italian rainbow cookies were delicious, and I absolutely LOVED the cannoli. BUT, wife went at like 3 on a Friday and they were out of lobster tails and had no carrot cake. Gotta keep that stocked up! So no complaints about the food, just the lack of it. Still, I'd go back for the cannoli and cross my fingers for a lobster tail. read more

Absolutely the best bakery we've ever experienced! Matt is awesome! Everything we ever purchased from J & M Has been amazing!! read more

Hands down my favorite bakery. Everything is always amazing and the people are so amazing.

Stopped into this local bakery on my way to dinner at a friends house who lives in Middletown. The small bakery is right off the highway, so very easily accessible. When you arrive you'll be overwhelmed by the hundreds of sweet treat choices. From cakes to cookies to pizza dough, J&M has something for everyone. The woman who worked behind the counter was very helpful in her treat suggestions. I ended up going with a marbled crumb cake, which my guests loved. For me, it could've been a tad more moist. I also ordered a few different flavored rugelach pastries. I was a bit disappointed with these, as they tasted stale and not as fresh as I would've liked them. I would give J&M another shot and try some of their other options. If you're in a pinch looking for a late night bakery, try this place! read more

If you are looking for a pie, cake, Italian cookies or pastries - THIS is your spot. A cake will run you less than $20 and they're delicious. In autumn, they have great pies, too. Apple, apple crumb, blueberry, blueberry crumb, pumpkin. All less than $9 each so at that price might as well get two. They also have cookies and cookie platters great to bring to someone's house. Conveniently located across the street from Livoti's. read more

Wow! What a great selection of yummy treats! Probably one of the best Lobster Tail pastries I've ever had. Its probably a good thing that I live over an hour away. read more

An extensive selection of baked goods that all look yummy! Stopped by on a Saturday morning and was helped immediately. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were affordable. And of course, the cookies I purchased were delicious. read more

They make a custom cake for my mother's 100th birthday. She had a very specific request for type of cake, type of filling and especially "real whipped cream" on top. The cake was perfect! It looked beautiful and tasted even better. We had over 75 senior citizens all of whom said it was one of the best cakes they had ever eaten. The other baked goods looked and smelled amazing. We will definitely be back before her 101st. read more

J&M Best bakery in this area hands down the best cookies. My son loves the rainbow cookies. They have good sesame cookies. They have good cookies to bring to a special occasion or if you just want a few good snacks! Make sure you pre-order for holidays as they sell out quick! read more

I have to second a review below about bad customer service. The lady seemed inexplicably annoyed by me. I was the only one there and I asked basic questions like the difference between different cookies, and she had no time for me. Very unwelcoming read more

Worst!!!! I don't get how everyone thinks this is such a good bakery. I bought some pastries and cookies. The cookies including the rugula were stale. And the pastries didn't taste fresh. Tasted like chemicals. Didn't taste like it came from a bakery but more like a supermarket. Never again. read more

We have getting our Italian cookies here for years. The chocolate and jelly sandwich cookies are the best. The cookie is a delicious shortbread and there is so much filling...best ever. We also buy our fresh pizza dough here because it is so good. We drive from Old Bridge to get these items, well worth it! read more

Great bakery and very reasonable. Their cakes are absolutely excellent. I bought the Easter pies, the wheat pie, and the pizzagain. My family really enjoyed it. read more

I've been going to J&M Bakery for many years but recently I ordered a birthday cake for my mother. I gave them a picture as inspiration and my goodness did they deliver... My mom has a sweet tooth & loves chocolate. Peanut butter cups, hershey bars & kisses are her favorite. Needless to say the cake looked & tasted amazing. I also highly recommend them for their Italian cookies. They are the best around, especially the chocolate filled. read more

J & M Bakery - a display of donuts - Bakeries Near Me - Middletown, New Jersey

Great bakery great prices!!! All the pastries were wonderful. The cannoli chips, the Napoleon cake was absolutely delicious and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely coming back here for their amazing service and pastries. read more

The pastry was delicious. Four of us came in to purchase items for Father's Day. One young lady was the only person waiting on everyone. Another girl ignored us, and just didn't place the cookies. Another person came out of the kitchen, and looked at us, rolled her eyes and went back in the back again so while the food and pastry items was delicious, the service was very very poor in the end, I chose not to buy anything because obviously they didn't need my money because I didn't even take the time to wait on us. Five stars for the bakery and one store for service so my overall rating is a three. read more

I love this place! Ordered a carrot sheet cake for my niece's shower and they could have not been nicer or more accommodating! And while I was there, I picked up several other goodies, that were outrageously delicious, especially the pignoli cookies. So stinking good. Staff is wonderful. Can't believe that it took me so long to find this wonderful, local bakery. read more

The best Italian pastries in the area. Cannoli filling creamy and so delicious and only assembled when ordered. Cannoli shells made by J&M. SERVICE QUICK and pleasant. Holiday pies very Italian and delish. Easter grain pies and pizza rustica excellent. read more

Just go to the bakery and be happy. Delicious, classic, affordable. Originally went to the plaza for greens and grains on the corner. Walked to see what other shops there were and came across this gem. I could smell the pastries before I even got to the store front. read more

A top notch Italian bakery in an Unassuming (to say the least) spot tucked in back in a small strip mall in Middletown on 35. The landmark to find it is Bottle King liquor store. It has the freshest large variety of Italian cookies and pastries in the Two River area. They also have good breads, mainly Italian. The prices are reasonable, the people friendly, and the hours great. I have never gotten a stale or otherwise unacceptable item from them. read more

Ok, I have a super weak spot for Italian cookies so perhaps this review is biased. Came here for the first time today and had the sandwich cookie with jam inside and powdered sugar on top (you can find it in the shelf closest to the food, 1-2 shelves from the top). Oh. My. Gosh. The cookie literally MELTED in my mouth. There was also the perfect amount of jam inside too! For 6 of them, it cost ~$5/6 which is not that bad considering! Will definitely be back! read more

I've been to this bakery on multiple occasions, but it took me longer to write a review just because I'd really would have liked to give it a higher rating. The workers are so nice here, and I even met one of the bakers who was really nice as well. I still plan on being a customer here because I absolutely love their jelly filled, peanut butter filled, and fudge cookies! That's this bakery's strong point it's their stuffed cookies. Those are great to come in for, and perfect for parties or just to enjoy some for yourself like I do. They use a thick layer of filling than the other bakeries do too, and it's just so good! My next favorite item is definitely their almond scone with cannoli filling it's also delicious! Unfortunately, I can't recommend them for cakes though. I had a chocolate cheesecake which wasn't good, and it didn't even taste like cheesecake, the carrot cake was just below average, and the mousse cheesecake was the better out the three and decent. I had a peanut butter tart which was very good before. For Italian pastries I was sadly disappointed the St Joseph pastries tasted too refrigerated and tasted stale. The lobster tail was the worst of all. It was much too thick, hard, and way too refrigerated tasting as well. I had too throw the lobster tail in the garbage it was that bad. The fig cookie was very bad which I'm so surprised they would even try to sell them. They should go to La Dolce in Old Bridge and taste how a real fig cookie and pastries are suppose to taste. Also trying Normandie bakery for cakes in Hazlet will help to improve these items and get better ideas. The Napoleon was just average. It needed a better filling and a sweeter icing. The chocolate rugelach I had today was so stale I had to toss it out after one bite. I also had a brownie with cannoli filling and the cannoli filling was good, but the brownie didn't taste like a brownie. I can highly recommend them for their stuffed cookies for sure they are amazing! Also try the almond scone it's another top item. But for Italian pastries or cakes as of now I say buy elsewhere for those items unless they plan on getting new recipes and providing them fresh for customers. Hopefully they can, and I can revise my review. read more

The smell as soon as you step inside - Heaven! I have been coming to J&M since I was a child and now that I'm grown and moved back to Middletown, I continue to get my celebration cakes and pastries from the bakery. I've also gotten my New Yorker/now Florida transplant mother in law hooked. J&M is the first place she wants to go when she visits and she always takes some home to Florida with her! read more

What a disappointment! We purchased a tiramisu cake and 3 pounds of cookies. Overpriced and poor quality. Spend the toll money and go to Staten Island or Brooklyn. read more

Been going here my whole life. The baker/owner, Joe, will make anything you can want- when I was little he would make an individual banana cream pie for me when my family would get some sort of cake. I was allergic to chocolate, and this way I got to be included in family celebration. Went back recently, he made me 2, and said there needs to be a sign that says: "If you don't see something, just ask" He also recently tried (French?) mousse canolis- I had them the first day they were being sold, and they were amazing. Truly the best bakery in the area. Everything is always fantastic read more
