When I called Alderfer's about this, they said that it is caused by using Windex that contains ammonia, and that I should change to ammonia-free Windex. What?!? They never gave that warning when they installed the mirror, and it sounds ridiculous to blame it on a cleaning product! They also installed a new pane of glass in the sidelight window next to my front door, and when they removed and reinstalled the wood frame, they left a mess on the exterior -- bulging nails, chipped paint, etc. Not good.

We just completed a major renovation project, and Joe (the owner) was recommended to do the steam shower glass and bathroom mirrors. At the last minute, we threw him a curve to do an impromptu bar mirror wall with glass shelves. Joe was very patient with our needs, and quickly came up with a great design idea at very reasonable prices. I am EXTREMELY pleased with the quality and precision of the work his team performed in the shower, and cutting custom mirror inserts into the vanities' doors and drawers, and especially with their clean and neat practices: everything was wiped and cleaned after all work was completed, and all was done with a smile.

He's a pitiful one-man show. It's like pulling teeth trying to get a return phone call, text or email. He rarely, if ever answers the phone (cell or office). But he sure know how, IMHO, to shine shit. I think all potential customers of John at Cottman Glass should know about egregious and outrageous behavior My first clue about John's true game was on the second job (multiple mirrored closet sliding doors) the thick top framing trapped items on the top shelf. When I finally discovered this, he charged me $100 to remove and reinstall the frame. Second clue, I referred him to our daughter and he just did a piss-poor job (photos to prove it) on the shower surround caulking. IMHO he's not a very good craftsman, as the photos I have of our daughter's project attest. The fact that he would try to pass off that sloppy silicone install as high quality work with equally high price is a travesty. IMHO, he is not a very good craftsman. He should be ashamed of himself. Third clue, I had him come out for 4 glass shelves in nook estimate September 2022 on hall bath renovation. Had to wait long time for estimate. Then on second visit, nook was out of square so he bumped up price by approx. $200 and said I could not use the straight, rectangular metal clips I wanted, instead offering me ugly tear drop shaped hardware.. Tried to schedule and he ghosted me. Got a text from him months later January 2023 claiming he and family got COVID. Why this prevented a text or phone call, I don't know. Nonetheless, I wished him and his family well and I said I'd call him to schedule. In March I called his office and cell number - no answer as usual. Texted him and, amazingly, (after a typically inordinate amount of time passed until I received a response) he texted me, stating, I waited so long and never gave him a deposit (which he never asked for), so I should find someone else. I texted back that my wife had serious health issues (what's good for the goose . . . ), and tried to call. Never heard from him again. THANK GOD. I found Michael's Glass. Top shelf outfit. Multiple crews, supervisors, office staff. Someone always answers the phone, all day, every business day. Emails are promptly replied to. Quotes are provided promptly. Scheduling is a breeze. And the bonus: I paid only $650 for the same job for which supercilious John wanted to charge me over $1100. On top of that, unlike fake-fussy John, this crew made a template for each glass shelf (IMHO either John didn't know how, didn't have the skill, or didn't want to bother) and I was, therefore, able to use the hardware support clips I wanted. WHAT A PLEASURE dealing with Michael's Glass!!! IMHO, do yourself a favor and run as fast as you can from supercilious, uncourteous, nightmare John at Cottman Glass, and avoid his rudeness and gouging prices.
