Please Ignore The Following Reviews:…read more 1. People who have not tried the food. The chicken is not dried out, it is crispy, savory, and delicious. The sides are all excellent. If you arrived late or near closing time, I suggest you come around lunch time. Leaving a negative review because you couldn't or wouldn't eat here is problematic to places that work hard to put out a quality product. 2. People who don't enjoy chicken. Yes, people have told me they don't like Brown's because they don't eat meat. Great. 3. People disgusted with its location. Yes, it's in a gas station. That is part of this location's appeal; it's a genuine hole in the wall. The food tastes great and they wouldn't be allowed to operate if they were dirty, which, in my opinion, they aren't. 4. People irritated at how a manager is speaking to a customer. I get it, this can irritate me, too. But 1 star? Get out of town. I've been going here for years, and the old and new management has been nothing but kind to the people I've seen order. This, along with Wayside Chicken and Mel's Cafe, is some of the absolute best fried chicken in Charlottesville. Best of all, it's affordable! While I'll refrain from doing a direct comparison I will say what you get with The Market at Preston (or any of their other locations I suspect) is amazing fried chicken worth the trip to the pump. I ordered ahead and got a 4 piece meal, perhaps 4 pieces were too many because I ended up saving some of it for lunch the next day, however it only meant I got two chances to enjoy the crispy, but not super battered, chicken not just once but twice. I was really impressed with the Mac and Cheese. Not many places do the side well, often it's goopy school cafeteria fare but their Mac and Cheese was rich and creamy. The Potato Wedges were spiced very nicely, perhaps better than KFC. What else can I say? If you are driving through C'ville perhaps make your next pit stop at The Market.

I was very disappointed with the service at the Costco Optical Counter when I went to pick up…read moreglasses that I had already paid for two weeks earlier. Costco had repeatedly texted me that my glasses were ready, so I came in specifically to pick them up. There was no line, and staff had time to speak with me, but I was told I would have to wait while they finished assisting another customer. I explained that I could not wait. If Costco is going to repeatedly notify customers that their glasses are ready for pickup, I believe there should be a reasonable way for someone to simply hand over glasses that have already been purchased and paid for. Customers picking up completed orders should not feel like they have become unimportant once the sale is finished. Unfortunately, that was the message I took away from my experience today: the attention was there before the purchase, but not after. I would recommend buying glasses from an optical provider that makes customers feel valued both before and after they pay.
