I was very disappointed with the service at the Costco Optical Counter when I went to pick up glasses that I had already paid for two weeks earlier. Costco had repeatedly texted me that my glasses were ready, so I came in specifically to pick them up. There was no line, and staff had time to speak with me, but I was told I would have to wait while they finished assisting another customer. I explained that I could not wait. If Costco is going to repeatedly notify customers that their glasses are ready for pickup, I believe there should be a reasonable way for someone to simply hand over glasses that have already been purchased and paid for. Customers picking up completed orders should not feel like they have become unimportant once the sale is finished. Unfortunately, that was the message I took away from my experience today: the attention was there before the purchase, but not after. I would recommend buying glasses from an optical provider that makes customers feel valued both before and after they pay. read more

Don't buy a tv at Costco. They sold us a very expensive Samsung plus with a known coaxle defect. The cable aperture broke. Insurance said tough luck. Samsung said too bad. We are not going to be able to fix the cable outlet. read more

Do not ever buy an appliance from here. We purchased a dishwasher on Jan 21 online. The purchase was supposed to include installation and removal of old appliance. On Jan 31, a delivery person came with the dishwasher and said all he does is delivery. None of this was explained to us when we did the purchase. We assumed delivery and installation were to be done on the same day. They outsource the installation for our dishwasher to Stephen Peterson of Express Installations if you are in Charlottesville. This person does not answer the phone. Costco has told us that he will reach out to us. We are still waiting on 2/20. Now Costco said they will reimburse us up to 200 if we get our own installer. This has been the biggest hassle. We are going to return the dishwasher and go to Lowes, which is what we should have done in the first place. read more

September 30th 2024 will be the year that I walk away from Costco after a little more than 20 years. I've had repeated bad experience with the Charlottesville store since I moved down here from Nova. I've been a Costco member since 2001, over seas, California, New York, Michigan, Colorado, Pennsylvania and lastly in Virginia. I look different ethnically from mainstream and a member of a particular social group and only in this Costco have I experience humiliation. I've been deliberately ignored, condescended and harassed. With exception to a one or two shinning stars, the employees here are unprofessional, rude and bane. I loved Costco when I first joined. Time after time they provided nothing but great shopping experience and value. Nearly 25 years later now, they've more or less just stood in place on their practices. Analyst have it that they make their money from membership and it's model that they swear to die by judging by the new policy. You are membership frequntly has 3 required check points. 1st upon entering, 2nd upon entering the self-checkout line and 3rd upon scanning. Today, September 17th at 5:00pm, I went to Costco to fill my tank after a full afternoon. Just a bit later, with a newly filled tank, I headed toward the warehouse to use the bathroom with intentions of grabbing a hot dog. I took the shortest rout as I habitually do, through the exit. A Costco run is typically at the end of the work day, I'd hustle to the bathroom, then grab a hot-dog so I'd have some energy to shop. Today I was met with Matt and Jim and insisted that I go around to entrance to go in. I stated that I wasn't purchasing items from the warehouse, just gassed and wanted a hot dog, leaving the part about using the toilet. The 2 checkers refused my entry, stating membership is required to be on premise and I had to go through the entrance. I stated that their policy does state activities that do not require membership such as pharmacy and though not explicit, using the restroom and eating at the food court have always been along those lines and I hurried around them with focus and purpose . Jim attempted to block me but changed his mind right before we made bodily contact. I made it to the bathroom happily. Upon exiting, there were 2 Costco staff members, I believe a manager and associate staring at me - Dom and Robbie, presumably to escort me out. They were condescending, rude and presumptuous, fiercely defending that it is policy that membership is required to be in the warehouse and I disagreed. I've visited the pharmacy and food court often without needing to produce a card. Robbie responded "It is now the policy that only members can eat at the food court." I requested that he show me the policy and his response was "I don't have to show you anything, but you have to show me your membership". I pulled out my card for them so they'd stop 'razzing me on not being a member. It was incredulous that Costco employees can be so black and white, while being assumptions. I have loved Costco for many years and they have been great. However, this location has some of the rudest most unhelpful employees I have ever experienced. I went in to get my tires done and they made me walk around the entire store just to walk to the desk that is right by the exit when I could've just walked to the exit and show my card. I have no issues with Costco scanning membership cards, but have the people that are going to the tire center or food court scan the card and then walk directly to it waste of time. Beyond disappointed in my experience today. The tire center was phenomenal though very friendly and extremely quick with great prices. Again highly do not recommend interacting with anybody that works in the main part of the store. read more

And as a customer today I asked for fresh chicken instead of the ones that were our for 45 mins was told they can't do it. Just becareful when buying from them . Costco is one of my favorite places to shop, especially for kids clothing on clearance. I pick up items year round and hold them for birthdays and the holidays. I've used Costco to outfit both nieces and my nephew for the last few years. Additionally, gas prices are usually the cheapest in town, they have a good pizza price if you are looking to pick up a quick dinner, and they carry several local products (e.g. great local beer selection). This location has a tire center and pharmacy too. I've bought tires for vehicles in the past because they were cheaper than other shops in the area. I love Costco (hence the 4 stars) but want to ask management to do something about handicapped parking. I've been there at least 20 times this year and there is always insufficient handicapped parking. So I checked yesterday and the two previous times. At least half of the parked cars do not have permanent or temporary plates or placards. This creates a problem for those, like me, who need those spaces. You need to call the police to have them come and cite the cars or they will continue. read more

Normally I love Costco. This review is for the Charlottesville one in particular. I was in with my sister, her 2 year old daughter and my 3 year old son. I had both kids in my cart and there was a lady giving samples of little bobos muffins and my son wanted to try one. So I got two, one for each child. The lady working proceeded to get incredibly rude with me -I'm assuming because I grabbed two and I guess she assumed I took them for myself? I don't know. Then she saw I gave them to the kids and changed her attitude. Next, I went to check out. My sister was in front of me and my purse was underneath all of the groceries I got so I told her to just use her membership card even though I do have one. The cashier asked how I was paying and I told him with my credit card and he said I wasn't allowed to do that since I was using her membership? I've never had this issue any other time I've gone with someone else. I showed the man my membership card and he still wouldn't let me use my card. Costco customer service is a joke anymore. Costco is a magical place. It has such a variety of food items (including wine and beer) and household goods. There is even a pharmacy department with meds that are much cheaper than anywhere else and an electronics section where you can buy Apple products. Everything is in bulk so it's tough if you don't need a lot of something. However, the prices are such that buying more than you need here us often cheaper than buying what you actually need somewhere else! The foodcourt has some good snacks. None of them are particularly healthy but they taste great! If you go on the weekend there are free samples of random foods being handed out. You could probably eat lunch for free just on the snacks! The gas here is also cheaper! You need a costco card to shop here but I recently learned you don't need one to use the pharmacy! The card is about $50 per year and is totally worth it! The place is great for shopping for larger families and parties (and buying a lot of something you love!). read more

For a billion dollar company they have some of the worst customer service at this location. I was ignored buy two cashiers because they didn't want to end their conversation to acknowledge a customer. Then when I moved to the next line they didn't apologize even after I pointed it out to them, just made excuses. This is not the first and I'm sure not the last time that this Costco employee's have been rude and unprofessional to the customer. Maybe management needs to have customer service reviews with ALL the employees weekly to enforce good service. read more

This brand new Costco, adjacent to the Shops at Stonefield, just opened on Thursday, July 30 after years of planning and much anticipation from shoppers. It's the first Costco Warehouse in Charlottesville and a very welcomed addition to the area. When we visited on its first Sunday in business, the place was packed! They were offering some specials and discounts for new members, and there was a huge crowd of eager customers waiting to sign up for membership. Many people seemed enthusiastic to go shopping there. The store is ginormous! Since this Costco is just days old, it is very clean and everything is well stocked. There is a wide selection of items, including designer handbags (Chanel, Michael Kors, etc.)! There is also a gas station, and the prices for gasoline are very cheap. read more

On the way south, through Charlottesville, we stopped in for gas. Prices were decent. There was no wait, so I was in and out quickly.

I've been to multiple Costco's in other states, and think that this is probably up there with the best of 'em. The parking lot isn't a madhouse, but you can always find good parking. It's never crowded to the point of annoyance, and the lines go by pretty fast. The tire center has been great and service your vehicle in a timely manner (though you should set up an appointment!) I've also ordered a bunch of food from this Costco, both a personal meal and a large order for parties/events for large parties. I've been able to pick up everything on time, and have never had any problems. Everyone's been really friendly and helpful at this Costco! read more

Costco Cville, the giant box conglomerate that has an endless supply of everything you ever thought you needed and more. This place is clean, well kept, relaxing to walk through, and the staff are nice. Having been to different locations this has to be one of my preferred Costcos thus far. On a Monday night I was single handedly able to find sheepskin rugs in a plethora of colors, stamps, Toms for $29, and hot dogs for $1.50. All of which I did not need, barring the hot dog of course, and oh, Kirkland brand dog beds for the fantastic price of $29 for a great round and easily washable dog bed. Did I mention they sell decently priced wine and beer, and most of which is locally brewed? I definitely appreciate the one stop shop feel and will be back. read more

I am giving it 3 Stars because this Costco has No Bins for Recycling when gassing up, when you walk in the store or in the store. I have been to Costco in MN and they have Recycling Bins everywhere. Everywhere should have a place where people can recycle water bottle, plastic bags, other's items instead of throwing it in trash cans. I noticed right when I walked in the store it wasn't as open as MN stores are, should maybe have a better way for display right when people walk in. I do like this Costco does sell wine. read more

I write this review to say that Costco is very inconsistent with its policies. At my home location, Costco does not check for picture ID proof when checking out. The cashier did today at the Charlottesville location. I was told that I could not use my dad's Costco card and she told me that he had to be with me at purchase or add me as an authorized user. Well, okay, so I told her not to worry about it and told her I did not want to purchase my item. Which was just 1 bag of popcorn. The nice couple behind me offered to use their Costco card for me, at which I declined. At which the cashier said "No, no it's okay, I gotchu" and proceeded to scan my item. "But next time he needs to be with you to be checking out". One, I told the cashier twice that I did not want the item, did not listen to me, and asked me to put in my card to pay for it. If Costco is afraid that I stole someone's card than fine, take me to customer service and I will call my father to tell Costco that it is an authorized purchase. Or have the cashier see if my credit card matched my license, and go from there. At which I was paying with my credit card, with my name on it. Considering I was buying one item, which was a bag of popcorn, I personally don't believe that this whole mess was necessary. But it happened. Whether the cashier was in a bad mood and decided to go all policy on me, or if it is the said rules. Costco needs to find a better solution, because having a cashier hold up the line to tell me I can't purchase one item because my father isn't there is pretty ludicrous. And with MY money. Also, this location is around a college town. If Costco and other wholesale locations believe that college students aren't using their parents card to do shopping, than they are mistaken. Hopefully they find a solution, but after this experience, I don't want to go back. read more

I was hesitant to join because I already had a membership to Sam's Club bought for me by my parents. However, the location here is just so convenient, as I like to do other shopping at Trader Joe's. I also heard about all of the organic options, so I had to try it out. My goal was to join so that I could do monthly bulk shopping and hopefully save some money. When I went in for the first time, I spent over an hour just looking at ALL of the food! I was pleased to find so many organic produce options, organic meats, and pretty much everything I put in my cart was organic! I know I saved some money- and now my pantry and freezer are truly stocked for the month! I did spend more than I expected, but got much more than I expected, too. This is probably going to be a common theme for when I go here! Anyways, I bought into the hype and I'm glad I did. I feel good about the food I bought and the prices as well! read more

Costco is a warehouse that you have to join. They have different levels of membership. I chose the Executive membership because I also get cash back once The prices on meat, well as their vegetables and fruits (and they have a large selection of organic vegetables and fruits as well) are really really good, very high quality. They also have the frozen selection where you can get ready made meals (with limited numbers of preservatives because they are flash frozen), they're frozen vegetables are amazing, and there are also a large variety of wine and beer available for minimal cost which is the purpose of the wholesale club warehouse. They also have really great, high quality clothing to choose from as well. Costco also carries books, technology, furniture, you name it they've got it. Overall, I like Them due to the high quality and lower cost. read more

I call this place the "[Two Hundred] Dollar Store". People seem to think they are saving, but that always depends on what is subsidized or not. Basically, if you eat the Standard American Diet (frozen dinners, pizza, corn and flour based food products, etc), then prepare to be amazed because you CAN save a LOT of money (provided you eat the recommended servings). I LOVE Costco, though!!! They sell a 3-pack ORGANIC ground grass fed beef and free range chicken, eggs, huge 2-pack of Aidell's meatballs, frozen organic blueberries, wild caught sardines, seaweeds, trail mix, bottled water and avocado oil. I am partial to their items in the meat and seafood section. Packaged meat are from concentrated animal farm operations (CAFO) and seafood are farm raised. Check the fine print on vegetables and cheeses for fungicides or antibiotics sprayed or added for longer shelf life. As for their jewelry department, I'm not sure if those are blood diamonds, but I want one of those! You save a LITTLE on diapers. I DON'T recommend the Kirkland diaper brand because it's less absorbent than Huggies and Pampers, so you won't be really saving much. The Kirkland brand of wipes are a GREAT deal, though. They have impressive wine offerings from all over the world. I come here to pick up my favorite bubbly... Moët et Chandon and Veuve Clicquot. For a full bodied red, I highly recommend Michael David's PETITE PETIT. I used to get these brands here for the cheap. During the holidays, they have seasonal items like CUTCO knives, Michael Kors and luxury perfumes. Amazing deals on electronics such as video home cameras, video game consoles, high end vacuum cleaners (I'd marry my ROOMBA if I could), children's books and so much more! The OPTICAL department is the BEST! Cheap with or without insurance; feel free to try their wide selection of high end luxury frames that flatter every face (contact lenses are cheapest here, too); and don't forget to ask for transition lenses because it's also cheaper compared to other places. Lastly, and the main reason why I got sucked into the membership was because I needed new TIRES. Did I mention they have one of the best return policy and customer service in the market? Also, make it a habit to fill up your tank here. GAS is the CHEAPEST here. That alone, pays for the membership itself. read more

I would rate this experience zero stars if I could. My husband ordered appliances during a Memorial Day sale with a pending delivery of July 2nd. Come around to July 2nd, we have known that the appliances were at the delivery agent at 5:37am Tuesday June 28, but some how were not in their system long enough to make a July 2nd delivery and was then rescheduled to July 5th with a confirmation call to come the day before regarding delivery window. The confirmation call was never received, and we were told on July 5 that delivery was once again not going to be made because there was a miscommunication and our order should not have been rescheduled--not our fault. Now the delivery wouldn't be made until Thursday July 7th and that was the best they could do. Note this information only happening because we keep calling Costco, there is no contact between us and the supplier or the delivery agent or Costco unless we called and sat on hold for 45min-1hr at a time. Here we are July 7 and still no appliances at 10:30pm and again we are calling Costco and waiting on hold to find out where and when this order is going to be delivered because it isn't happening today between 1-5 like promised. We will NEVER buy appliances through Costco again because they hire a third party to handle the shipment and delivery from the manufacturer, have done nothing to help the situation or make things right, have not been able to maintain communication as stated they would. And once again we have no appliances 8 calendar days since scheduled delivery, have no idea when they will be delivered or if they will be, and this order was placed over 6 weeks ago which is ample time to make an on time delivery for an in stock item. read more

Tire Service Review: Awful. I was told over the phone I could bring in tires from another seller for mounting. Made an appointment for the next day, but then all of the sudden the policy changes and they won't mount outside purchased tires?! Failed to tell me that one day ago when the appointment was made. Wasted an hour of driving. The sign still says they mount tires from other sellers by the way. I'm done with Costco. read more

I have been to many Costco's throughout the country and this one by far exceeds the ones I have been in the past. The staff is super friendly, and the lines are always a reasonable length. When I do my weekly shopping here I do not feel like I am fighting a sea of people which is a refreshing change to the other ones I have been to. One thing that is missing is their sample selection. I have noticed there are less samples here but nonetheless, they have a great selection of food and a fantastic collection of wines! Lastly, if you haven't done so already...get the Kirkland Prosecco. It is life changing at only $6 a bottle. read more
