I've visited twice now and overall I like this place. The service is good, but last time it seemed like the issue was the place being short staffed so we had to wait a bit longer than usual. The price of food seems a bit high for a local joint but with the nice atmosphere I think it's worth it. The food is great with a nice variety. I really want to love Izzi 'Que, but...! I have been many times, but this is the first time that I have taken the time to give a review. First I will begin with the positives. The BBQ is fabulous! I've had the sliders, nachos and pork fries. The meat is smoky and flavorful. The atmosphere and restaurant design is very inviting, cozy and appealing. The service is top notch. The bartender has a clean, almost lab-like work space. The bar has a frost rail built into the bar top to keep your beer frosty cold! So what is the problem? Well, more often than not, the amount of delicious meat is very lacking! Anything I've tried seems scant of meat. You taste, but never have I felt it was a fair amount of meat. Online menu pictures show the proper meat ratio. Make your food like those pictures! Clara Peller used to say, "Where's the beef?" I'm saying "Where's the pork?" Also, there are lots of taps, but no specials. The beer we had tasted flat, it should have been the dollar off special! I really feel for the owner. There seems to be potential, but "special" is lacking! Look at Pleasant City....Tuesday night you can't get a seat. The specials Pleasant City run on Tuesdays is a good way to introduce people to your special place. So my advice, add a little more delicious meat to plates and run some specials. read more

Ambiance is great! The wait staff are great!! Monica in bar was tremendous.. however, today, that is where things stopped. Took an hour for the food, meat was a bit on dry side. They initially completely forgot my sides.. had to ask for them. I asked the bar tender to see if there was some compensation for waiting so long and the food somewhat dry. With a 3 plus rating I would never have come here but I was brought here with local friends. Atmosphere was great and service was great but food was sub par and very expensive. I had a $12 pulled pork sandwich that I couldn't eat because the pulled pork was so tuff. I'm sure it was leftovers and microwaved. So there were three of us and as mentioned I only had a pulled pork sandwich, another had three tacos and the other had a half rack of ribs ($26) which is a lot. We did have 4 beers and the bill was $96.87! Just not worth it. Will be another Mexican restaurant in a month or so. read more

I placed an order over the phone from my vehicle in front of the restaurant for a Brisket plate to go. I went into the restaurant waited 40 minutes for my food. When my food arrived I paid and went out to my car. I looked in my bag to make sure the order was correct. It was a sandwich I didn't order a sandwich. I Took the food back in and asked them what is this. They promptly took the food back to the kitchen. She returned with what I thought was my food. I opened the box and again I asked what is this. They informed me that they are out of brisket. I am like again no I didn't order this Chopped up food. When They took the sandwich to the kitchen took the bread off and gave it back to me. Last Saturday 8/15/20 we made our first visit to Izzi 'Que and it won't be our last! You'll enter through a small dining area to get to the back tap room. They also offer an outdoor patio for dining or just enjoying a cold beer. We made ourselves at home in the tap room, arriving just before 6:30 and beating the crowd, by 7:15 this place was packed! My visit to Stretch Lab in Columbia was my first stop in an effort to increase my flexibility and sports performance. I LOVE this place. I'm fairly new to the area and stopped in here right after I moved and now I have to come back at least once a week. The inside, the decor, the bar area - all of it is just beautiful. They have a great beer selection and often have $5 drink specials! I love the music/blues vibe they have. On Tuesdays they have a Grateful Dead tribute band that is AWESOME! Then on Fridays or Saturdays they have a live band as well and it's always just a blast! The staff has all always been super friendly though I do usually sit at the bar. The brisket (shown in the pictures on the sliders. I add cheese to mine) is hands down some of the best brisket I've ever had! It is so tender and flavorful without being super fatty. The pork fries are another one of my favorites - a generous portion of pulled pork, thick seasoned steak fries and I believe their bbq sauce is homemade. ***Drinks only*** Finally, this past Saturday, we were able to come and check Izzi' Que out. On a previous occasion before they had opened, we peeked through the window at the Taproom in the back and ooohed and aaahed. No expense was spared on this place. The lighting and decor were great, the Blues music loud and the beer super cold. In fact they have one of those frost/ice bars you can set your beer on so it stays cold from start to finish. The prices were very reasonable ranging from $3.50 - $5.00 per pint with a selection that had something for everyone. I enjoyed the complimentary house made deep fried pork rinds.The bartenders were nice but could have been a little more attentive - I think they were responsible for table service orders in the restaurant too. I also saw someone obviously blitzed get served who should have been cut off. I would totally come back to have another beer here - it was definitely a fun environment. I plan on coming back for lunch on a Friday to try their BBQ in the main restaurant. read more

Dont go here. We were there to celebrate our neighbors birthday. The four of us got there just around 5. This is when they open. Waitress took 15 minutes to get us our first drink. Then it just got worse. She rarely came back to our table too see if we needed anything. Took 15 minutes to get 1 dessert that for some reason was to go. Was GROSS. This is, at a minimum, an okay place to a good to very good place. It kinda depends on your server. One negative is the EXTREMELY small dance floor, and I mean postage stamp small! If you don't mind bumping into others, than this won't be a problem. I've only eaten the nachos (twice) and we liked them a lot. I saw other dishes, and they looked very good, too. Stopped in with my husband on a weekday afternoon. Walked in, NO ONE was in the entire place. We stood at the front for a few minutes, and were never greeted. Found our way to the back of the restaurant and the bar. Beautifully decorated, nice touches, and great music. Decent beer selection, and fantastic bartendress. Ordered a couple of appetizers, and they were AWFUL. very frozen tasting hushpuppies (round over cooked balls of cornmeal) and ice cold spinach dip with stale pita chips. Sent that back, and got the BBQ nachos. Decent, until you got to the metallic tasting cheese slime on the bottom. The smoked cheesecake was worthy! The OWNER came out and spoke to the bartendress (we are still THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE JOINT) and he did not ONCE make eye contact, speak to us, etc. I guess he and his pony tail are just too uppity. read more

My wife and I were both really excited to see that a new barbecue restaurant was opening up in Shelby, and we couldn't wait to give it a try, so we decided to stop by for their "soft opening" tonight for dinner. Unfortunately, we were both really disappointed by our experience here. The service was decent, and the decor was nice, but the quality of the food was pretty terrible, especially considering the price. We started with the pork nachos, which came out with what seemed like not nearly enough pulled pork, and they were missing the sauce that was supposed to be drizzled over them. Also, everything below the very top layer was cold, and most of the shredded cheese was nowhere close to melted. The pulled pork did have great flavor, though. Next came the entrees. My wife ordered the brisket and I ordered the Danish cut baby back ribs. They actually brought my wife the wrong entree at first, and when she finally did get the brisket she ordered, it was dry, tough, and stringy. The ribs were really small with very little meat on them, and were as tough as shoe leather. They were obviously not smoked for nearly long enough to get tender, and instead tasted like they had been cooked over high heat on a grill. The flavor was fine, but as ribs go, they were really subpar. The sides were a toss up; my fries and hush puppies were good, but my wife's potato salad was under seasoned, and the potatoes in it were undercooked. Final bill for two people with no alcoholic drinks was $54 and change. That's just way too much for such low quality food, regardless of how posh the atmosphere is. First visit....my rating a negative 5.....brisket entree had 2 pieces and fat filled...tasted old, no flavor and was very dry by the two that eat red meat. I eat chicken breast only...the smoked chicken looked as though it had been smoked many days ago...was dry and tasteless. Food was cold as well. Only thing good about this place is somewhat nice atmosphere . The server was very nice but food delivery was so slow and food was not hot. I ordered the "jumbo" chicken wings and they were tiny, dry and has no flavor . Other people at my table did not find their food good either. We were there on a week night and it was empty. Expensive! Horrible Service! How is this place still in business? The restaurant is pretty and all but, the food is very dry, they have no beer specials, and the waitresses don't seem to care about their jobs. One the flip side the restaurant is never crowded one of the only places in Shelby you can walk right in and sit down on Saturday night. The bar seems to attract the same group of old men every night. The worst part seems to be the food it's so dry it makes me wanna turn vegan. I was really excited about a new uptown dining option. When we arrived the decor was very impressive. We were quickly seated with a party of two adults, one child, and one baby. First off they don't have high chairs. That would've been nice to know while we waited. Next my wife ordered a beer and the waitress walked away then quickly came back and said" I forgot to ask what you wanted to drink". I ordered Miller Lite and they didn't have any. Next, I ordered a water and she walked away and didn't ask my daughter what she wanted. When she came back she said they were out of beer my wife ordered as well and still didn''t bring a water for me. We ended up leaving without spending a penny. We will wait a month and give them another try. I hope they do better because we need another good spot uptown. read more

Myself and two of my friends came in for a couple drinks on Saturday night. We stood at the hostess stand for around 5-10 minutes bc we weren't sure if we should seat ourselves or not. (This was around 9 pm and there weren't many people in the restaurant at all). Finally, the bartender named Misty asked if we had been helped. I said no and she asked a young man to grab some menus and please seat us. I informed her that we didnt need menus as we were just going to order a couple of drinks. The young man sat us and walked away. We sat there for 15 minutes or more without being helped while the young man just stood around. (I assumed he was a host). Finally the bartender came and asked if our order had been taken and we said no. We asked if we could just order from her at this point to ensure good service. She took our order and brought us our drinks promptly. We were on our second round of drinks, not thinking anything negatively, and had been there for more than 40 minutes at this point and the young man came and asked us what we ordered and who helped us. I would hate to think we would have sat there that long without any service, but being in the customer service and service industry, that's how it appears it would have been. We then hear the manager yelling and telling the bartender, Misty, that she was cut. We settled tabs with her. At this point, the young man kept ignoring us and never came back to the table at all, we kept seeing him go to managers. Two different managers came to our table and neither offered an apology at all when we explained what happened. We werent even upset, bc someone took the iniative to step up and help us and we were just trying to enjoy some friend time. But then the manager with the shorter hair kept getting more and more rude. Basically called us liars and told us that the bartender was in the wrong. She also made the comment that we shouldnt be picking on some young kid and have preference for a 45 year old bartender. At this point, I knew this was personal for this manager as age of these two workers had nothing to do with anything. This is a place that should be serving customers and making customers happy. Any drama or reprimanding should not be seen by customers and should be handled in the back of house or outside of business hours. At this point, we were so upset that the bartender was getting in trouble for going above and beyond while this younger guy was not getting in trouble at all for not doing his job. The manager continued to belittle us. She even stated, I look forward to your 1 star review and none of you ever walking back into this establishment. She also preceded to tell us she was the owner of this place and 6 other establishments. After doing some investigation, it seems that this is not true as well. I've been all over for BBQ. Austin to Lexington. Every place is different but great in their own right. Izzi Que has EXCELLENT BBQ. We started with pork fries and the spicy spinach dip. Both were really good but the pork fries won the appetizer hands down. Pork was super juicy and a great hint of smoke. Fries were wedges and unlike any I have had before. The spinach dip was good, but a little salty. Nonetheless we finished both. For entrees we had the beef brisket and 10 wings with a side of Mac and cheese and the baked beans. The brisket was ridiculous. So flavorful and needed none of the sauces provided. Very very good. The wings were also great, perfectly smoked and very juicy. Again, no sauce needed. I really liked the baked beans as they had a great Jalapeño flavor and were delicious. The Mac and cheese was also good but nothing out of the ordinary. As far as service goes, no issues very prompt. Nothing else to say there, it was above average. After dinner we went to check out the bar area and it is so unique. The atmosphere is very neat with a modern vibe. The drinks were very generous and waitstaff were nice and friendly. As for other reviews of this restaurant, I cannot understand how they arrived at their opinions. There were no complaints from us and we have high standards. The prices are well in line with any nice, attractive restaurant with excellent food. I think some need to venture out of Cleveland County to get a reality of what great atmosphere and food costs, this isn't wings etc out on the bypass. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. The building is beautiful, the music is nice. But the food is far from "high class" that the owner apparently strives for. My food looked as if it was thrown on the plate as fast as it could be and out appatizer (bbq nachos) and our entree, both brisket with Mac and cheese and basked beans was all cold by the time it made it to our table and it wasn't busy at all. Everything looked sloppy, and the owner came to talk with us since it was our first time visiting and we could smell the alcohol on his breath, if I'm not mistaking his name is Tony. The building and the atmosphere are very nice. As far as the food goes, not so much especially for the price. Had the ribs and my wife had the pulled pork plate. The barbecue sauce has a chili flavor and it is served sparingly. The ribs were way over cooked and dry. Without sauce, the pulled pork was like chewing on a wet napkin. Overall, the experience was very disappointing...but at least I had good company and enjoyed spending time in Uptown Shelby. read more

My wife and daughter had dinner here tonight. We thought the food was really good. The barbecue is shredded and the sauce has just enough vinegar to make it pleasant. we came to see my friends band preform. they did great. that was the best thing about the night. we were sat by who i'm assuming was the manager and it took at least 25 minutes for someone to come ask us what we wanted to drink. then another 20 for those drinks to come to us. we were ready to order and we did, she told us she was going to put the order in right away. and we watched everyone else around us get their side salads and even their food! we had to stop and ask someone for refills. she came to us and told us the food was coming right up. she took care of my empty glass of tea but completely forgot about my sisters drink, we had to ask the manager for that too. we finally got our food about 30 mins after she told us it would be right there. they were "out of fries". my burger was burnt. my sister and i both didn't care for the burger. my boyfriend said his pulled pork sandwich was pretty good though. so i gave them two stars because he said his food was good and their ranch was good. i would not have stayed that long if my friends band wouldn't have been performing. i understand getting busy and stuff and being stretched thin but we were straight up forgotten about it felt like. i was not happy spending what i spent there for the quality of food and service i got. i would have liked to talk to the manager instead of leaving a review but i couldn't find her anywhere. i'm not usually one to leave negative reviews but this was the worst experience i've ever had in any place i've got to eat when it comes to food and service. the band playing there was fantastic though! read more

Finally got to try Izzie's! I must say I enjoyed everything I ordered and so did my husband and son. We ordered the spicy spinach dip with pita chips and it was very good (the pita chips was slightly salty) keep in mind this dip is not suppose to be warm so if you are thinking spinach artichoke you are getting something totally different.
