Along the Hotel District, there are an abundance of steakhouses, seafood restaurants, night clubs, Mexican fine dining, fast food joints and taco stands. But hidden away behind an Oxxo convenience store, just to the left of the famous Captains Cove is a little Mayan place. There is no sign out front to tell you where this place is, you have to look hard and kind of know where to look.
This is an outdoor cantina specializing in Mayan dishes. They feature baked fish, vegetarian cuisine, some pork, some steak and lots of dishes wrapped in banana leaves. There is no indoor seating, it's all outside with a nice view of the lagoon to keep you company. The bar serves up some mean cocktails, I personally recommend the tamarind margharita. The menu itself is a bit limited but it's all good. I had three vegetarian "tostada's". I think they are called puanchitos or something like that. Whatever it's called, it's fine!
This is really an undiscovered gem and I suggest you try it before it becomes common knowledge and everyone will be trying to eat there. read more
