Crowd is more for college students. 4. Although this is one of the better clubs in Sydney, it feels like a typical DTLA poolside bar to me. (The ones with free entrance) 5. It's crowded inside and the venue is not very large. Because there's a pool, you need to be very careful when walking around in case you slip! They have security watching people carefully (to make sure they don't get hurt) Overall, had a decent time but I actually had more fun at one of the bars which didn't charge cover on Darling Harbour. Came here on a Friday night. I was in the mood for EDM that night, so I didn't particularly care for the music (90s and early 2000s hip hop) which I always hear in my town, but after a drink I was good. We must have not explored the entire place because we were just in one room and the upstairs part was closed that night. The place was pretty packed and service was good. They had some free food which reminded me of Boulevard3 in Hollywood. The crowd was full of friendly happy people. Some dude came up to us with a sign saying "Free Hugs" and gave us both a hug. Lol. Randomness. Other than that, I was a bit disappointed. Especially since I wanted a Buttery Nipple shot and the bartender had no clue what I was talking about. While she was waiting for her friends, a security guard named John Lazerus (ID #00027080) told her to wait outside for her friends. He then proceeded to laugh at her and tell her she couldn't re-enter, as if he had tricked her. The law in Sydney is no re-entry after 1:30 am, she was aware of the law but he told her she had to wait there for her friends and failed to mention it was an exit. He continued to taunt her and made it clear he had the power in this situation. The guard cursed us out and handled the situation completely inappropriately, acting like a power hungry child. The manager told me he would refund the $10 entry fee for the 9 of us (out of 12) that were arguing, if the tapes revealed the misconduct. He then came back with $120, which was over-compensation clearly indicating he observed the obscene level of misconduct that had occurred. In addition to John Lazerus, a few other guards were hostile and cursed us out as they were quick to believe the guard without getting the full picture. The guard, John Lazerus, forced a single girl, who was waiting for her friends, outside without re-entry while he let others slide by. The obvious misconduct of this security guard put my friend at danger by forcing her outside the bar, alone. He believed he had the authority to act in this way as he proudly waved his security badge to us and telling us if we were to complain that nothing would come of it! The manager clearly saw the misconduct, that's why I was given $120 instead of $90. If you come here on a Friday or Saturday night, you're going to find the place packed to the brim with men who have spent too much time in the gym and are now looking to show off their work, and women who want to sleep with them but are playing hard-to-get. Then, squish all these people into a room together, shoulder to shoulder, get them all drunk so they think they're rubbing up against each other, and you have the Ivy. But if you actually want to come here to enjoy the place, come early on a Friday (be gone by 7pm) or come on a weekday when the place is empty. It's not the greatest place to come, and with a bit of looking around, you'll find something more interesting. Cocktails are around $17, are weak and take way too long to mix. I had a very disappointing experience at Ivy pool this evening. Not only was the security officers were extremely rude to their patrons of African appearance, but I also witnessed several instances of racist behaviour towards guests with dark skin. Great Bar/Bars!!! Went their on what we thought would be a slow Thursday night and it was anything but. The pool bar had people throwing down shots and taking off their clothes and jumping in the pool. Keep in mind this was a cool autumn night with several locals wearing jackets. This place shattered my expectations for a quiet evening out. THANK YOU for that!!! The dance floor bar was also amazing. The music was so good even the bouncers were dancing to the bear. The architecture of the place is worth appreciating (tip - during the daytime is the best to appreciate it). Each section has its own theme, from the Ivy Den area, to the main bar, the change room bar, pool bar, and the Ivy Penthouse. The pool and multi level setup was a great club experience. The pool wasn't dip-worthy in that it could be cleaned to perfection, especially given the rooftop and high end CBD neighbourhood. However, it was pretty to see and be seen at. Prepare yourself for loads of suits during the week, pizza fresh made, and a good selection of cocktails. It was the perfect combination of elegance meets summer. I'm not a fan of The Ivy or more to the point, the type of people that go there. I like my posers to look like they've put less effort into it and I can't stand shrill women or men that wear slides. But there's no denying it is a gorgeous looking venue, and the "Sun Room" function room is no exception to the tasteful décor rule. This open, sun-drenched room holds about 400 at a guess- there were 300 or so beautiful people at the function I attended which really seemed the perfect amount. The bar staff were fabulously attentive and the patio lounge area with its old-fashioned vibed, cane chair and hanging planted beauty looked like an extremely pleasant spot to lounge away a sunny afternoon while being fanned by bare-chested men with peacock feather fans... OK there was none of that but had there been it would not have been out of place. Perfect place for a wedding reception. read more

OK, if I was basing my review on a single visit on a Friday or Saturday night, then it would get 1 star if it was lucky, but I'll give it 3 as it can actually be a pleasant place to come for an afternoon/early evening drink during the warmer months. Sitting in the outside part of the main bar, without too many people packed into it, makes you forget that in a few hours it'll be packed full of posers. And plus, you don't have to deal with, erm, over-zealous bouncers. It's not cheap, we know that, but where in Sydney is nowadays? And there's no view of anything. But the outdoors area is nicely shaded by the high sides of the building around you, which keeps it relatively cool during the hot summer months. I've decided to reconsider my review for the Ivy that I wrote earlier this year for two reasons: a) because I've recently had an experience there that I think sums up the place pretty well and b) because I was too generous with my three star rating and I now see what everyone else in Sydney has been talking about. We've been to the Ivy many, many times before and have never really had a problem. The people that allow entry I've always excused for their abrupt, sometimes rude behaviour and treatment of people because they're doing their job and they have to put up with a lot. But this time I couldn't find an excuse for them. We've been up to the pool before, it was early, no big deal. Two groups of people - same situation. The couple in front told us they weren't on a guest list but they were allowed up. We told them the same thing, and they told us to come back later because there were four of us, and the other two were allowed up because only two people were allowed up at a time. It didn't sound right to me, but we left anyway. Two of my friends left soon later, and we were going to follow them. So before the remaining two of us were about to leave we went back to her (there was no line) and she said there was a cover charge of $20. I just sort of shook my head and said we'd rather get out of there. I couldn't believe that she told us to come back later only to make us pay the cover charge. And the fact that she lied to us after letting people up in front of us? Just how greedy are these establishments nowadays? Also, when I was taking photos of this place for my review, I noticed that one of the bouncers made his way over to me and was looking over my shoulder. I told him what I was doing. Then the bouncer proceeded to say the Ivy sues people for writing up anything without their consent. I assured him that the point of reviews is to ensure that people are aware of what their getting into before they do. I didn't want to argue more, since the bouncers at the Ivy have a certain reputation and really don't seem to mind provoking people. Sadly, it took an experience one too many to see what the Ivy was really like. But see for yourself, then share it too. read more

The ivy is a huge club complex that happened to be a 3 minute walk from our hotel. We wanted to check out Sydney's nightlife and spent our Saturday night here. We arrived close to 11pm and there was a very short line. We were slightly worried that our US drivers licenses would not be accepted since we had not brought our passports but we had no trouble getting in. After all, each person meant at least $40 of revenue for the club. When we first entered, we headed to the building on the left. That's where the main room (EDM) was located. The DJs earlier in the evening were not that great at all and I had a hard time getting into it. On the second floor of this building were VIP tables overlooking the main room and a smaller room that played hip hop. The DJ there (an older Asian dude) was not good. He played too much of each song and the beat was too slow to get the crowd going. Even though this small hip hop room felt fairly crowded, there was a lot of standing around. We then headed to the other building, where the Pool Club is located. The Pool Club is a cool outdoor venue where you can dip into the pool on warm days. However, it was a little windy that evening and no one got into the pool. One floor below the pool was Changeroom, the R&B/hip hop room. This was my favorite room out of the four and we stayed here for quite a while. Now let me make a comment about the crowd. Maybe I'm not into Australian men (boys) or maybe this is not a good representation of the overall population. I found the men to be extremely unattractive. The most attractive guy was security guard #114, who looked like a gorgeous statue inside Changeroom. Apparently I'm not the only one who thought he was attractive; a girl tried to give him her number. We finished the evening back at the main room and at this point, the music had gotten much better and the crowd was happy. We each had ~6 drinks that evening and the drinks were so weak that I didn't even get a buzz. read more

Arrival Apparently the gods thought it would be hilarious to cause a monsoon on my main night out in Sydney. It was one of those nights with constant rain, and even though my hotel was only a 10 min walk from Ivy, I was soaked by the time I got there. I feared that the crowd would be smaller due to the weather, but boy was I wrong. Line moved fairly quickly, and I was inside in under 10 mins. Inside Club is huge. Like, Vegas super-club huge. If I were meeting friends here, I'd likely have to give them all GPS units so that we could sync up later. The main area in the front had a couple of bars and an open courtyard area. Of course, in the pouring rain, people were dancing and grinding while getting soaked. Well done Aussies! Multiple levels, multiple rooms, different music genres. Personal favorite was hearing "Summertime Sadness" for the first time here, months before it got big in the States. Close second was doing the Harlem Shake for the Sydney peeps. Trendy, fun, wild (complete with hot chicks on stilts...why not?), crazy light shows, awesome music. Pacha Sydney might just be one of my favorite club experiences. The summer we never had is officially over, and autumn/winter is looming. So, when an unexpectedly sunny Friday appeared, I couldn't think of a better reason to head to Pool Club, for perhaps one last hoorah. Pool Club, located on level 4 of the Ivy Complex, is the jewel in Ivy's crown. This open air bar is set around a centre piece of a sparkling, crystal clear aqua pool, complete with palm trees and private cabanas. The bar has a retro 1950s St Tropez vibe. Good looking pool boys parade around with light blue t-shirts and white shorts, providing a little eye candy. The crowd varies, from after work suits, to those who've made a long trek into the city for an evening. One minute it's ultra sophisticated, the next minute it's ultra not. Expect to pay a $20 cover charge some nights. When it's warm enough, guests can be found stripping down to their bathing suits and taking a dip in the sparkling swimming pool. Don't be surprised to see floating swans, inflatable thongs or what not, providing the perfect prop with which to frolic. With the handy Changerooms (complete with lockers and showers), they've really thought of everything. But, when it's cooler, the pool still provides the perfect setting for a chilled evening or afternoon. Beware, this is not a cheap bar (would you expect anything less?), you will need money to burn, but the drinks are good, especially the cocktails. The Mojitos we have this evening go down a treat. You can be sure there will always be a hot DJ to listen to, whether you visit on a Friday evening, or a Sunday afternoon. One Australia Day, me and a couple of friends decided that seeing as the opportunity had presented itself, we would go to the Ivy Pool for a drink or two and a swim. We got up to the roof top pool after sun down and the cold was just setting in. Our towels and clothes were placed in the lockers and we made our way to the pool. In the locker room, empty but for the occasional person putting something into, or taking something out of their locker, there are these weird chairs and lamps and a general air of seediness. Like a 1970's swingers party could take place here without any trepidation at all. In the pool area, the place is packed, people mill about the watery centrepiece sipping on their vodka red bulls and dancing in their bikini's and board shorts. I become a little self aware when I realise I'm the only person wearing speedos. I decide it's okay seeing as I look so good in them anyway and I'm here to swim not prance about showing off my muscles, which seems to be a 'thing' here. We stick to ourselves, us three, just taking in the magic and the wonder that is, women dancing on the spot looking up at security cameras as though they know that someone is watching them and that is all the validation they need that they are wanted. Men with muscles stacked on muscles revelling in the opportunity to combine drinking, clubs and shiftlessness in a venue that is designed so that no one can hear him speak and thus no one will ever know what he is like as a person until it's too late. Perhaps it's not my scene, I very rarely say, "Wouldn't it be nice to get drunk and swim in a pool with a whole lot of strangers?" so my judgement may seem harsh. If you're into that sort of thing, I say, ''Go for it." But if someone tells you to put your keys in a bowl, just remember that I warned you. read more

Ivy Bar is the epitome of opulent dining/drinking. The décor is stunning, the servers are almost scarily professional and strategically friendly, the food is amazing, and they have a very creative cocktail menu, which I happen to adore. Every item on the menu is made to look more complex than it is (probably), giving it air of pretentiousness, which I don't mind, as it's quite in keeping with the look of the place. For all the atmosphere and luxury, the prices aren't actually all that steep. A burger/sandwich with fries might set you back about $15, but it's worth it, because they're absolutely delicious. Ribs or pasta might cost around $20, and you can even get share-plates of virtually anything for about $14. Definitely would dine here again, if I'm feeling like a bit of pampering. read more

Ivy is by far my favourite club! Ive been there over 20 times by now. . So u could probably say this review is a bit biased lol. However every time ive been there I have not been disappointed with the music.. or the incredible performances they have throughout the night. On top of that, the light shows are awesome :) Its such a big club witha variety of music and several areas to party in so youll never be bored! The only disappointment I have with the place is the watered down drinks after 11pm.. and the fact that sometimes it can be so crowded making it difficult to dance! But if u can find a good little spot on the outside of the main crowd, dancing isnt a problem :) I think everyone should experience this club.. and with $5 drinks between 730-930pm, getting there early is advised. . I went few times a Thursday night as entrance is free. If the place is pretty impressive and nice i cannot say the same about the music. At the second floor there is rnb music which nice if you like this kind. Downstairs there is a big room with random music, the do just put a music and add some really bad techno drop. Ex: playing nirvana and then house music then back on nirvana. Sometime he plays a good music and when it ends he plays another music without link with the previous... There is a pool on another part of the club which is nice and music is kind of house there ( my favorite pet for the music. Price are like others clubs in cbd (expect 10-13$ for a 33cl beer and 20 for a cocktail. If you don't mind about the music and can have fun even if music is not good you can go on Thursday it is pretty crowded and free otherwise don't go there. I've got quite a blinkered perspective on the Ivy as I experienced it in the best possible situation. Just a girlfriend and I going for a quiet drink in the early evening. To us, it seemed a sensational place. Because it is windowless you feel completely transported to some kind of ritzy wonderland in Montenegro. The centre of the room opens up to reveal the many levels of this joint and make room for the beautiful tree growing in the centre. There are sumptuous white leather sofas skirting the room as well as minimalist white tables for those dining. We took a seat on the stools which surround the tree and for one moment, as we sipped our $7 sparkling wine, we were able to pretend we were big deals! Perhaps that's the attraction of this place, it turns everyone into a millionaire just by its surroundings! But there's a very superficial quality to all this glamour, the men are smarmy businessmen and a large proportion of the girls are out looking for these smarmy businessmen. We managed to avoid this crowd by leaving early, but the suits had begun settling in early. A place to be avoided late at night. read more

Ivy Bar on a Saturday night is like one of Sydney's biggest contradictions. The most glamorous classy decadent décor and space, crammed full of the trashiest clientele. I have heard them described as 'cashed up bogans' and while I might not be rude enough to go that far let's just say its trashed guys on the make with labels on their shirts so big you can't read them with one glance and girls who model themselves on being a Kardashian with long hair extensions and super tight dresses. The Pool Club is no better, trashed boys and girls jumping in the pool fully clothed, lit cigarettes and all ... complete carnage. HOWEVER, I have been here for specific events and dance parties- both in the main bar and the pool Club and LOVED it. Have found the place to be beautiful, the staff always friendly and helpful and the atmosphere wonderful. My favourite event here is every few months is run by a DJ called Dan Murphy and called I Remember House. This is a fantastic event which brings Ivy to life with fabulous funky uplifting house music and great crowd. This combined which such beautiful surrounds, makes you feel like you are in Ibiza or somewhere equally glam. Equally, going to the Pool Bar or Main Bar on off peak time allows you to really take in the great architecture and surrounds. So my advice is enjoy the beauty of Ivy on a quiet evening or afternoon or go there for a specific party. Otherwise, the sights of the crowd sadly corrode the glamour. read more

I know, this establishment can be quite hit and miss, maybe hinting on a bit "too cool for school" kind of approach. On a Friday night this establishment gets quite busy. I love the function area on the third floor. Great, friendly staff. The drinks are amazing, especially their cranberry juice - something on the lighter side for sure. Their canapes are generous and rather filling. No cheap bits here. At a function I attended, the decor was just stunning...definitely some good interior design ideas came to the fore. I love this place. I've visited less than a handful of times and it's a hit or miss. The crowds can get a bit out of hand normally on a Friday or Saturday. Very cool crowd full of interesting individuals. The drinks can run deep into your weekly funds but very good. My personal favorite is "wet pussy". Yummy!!! Now i don't easily give out 4 stars and normally i don't go out dancing. So to start, i must apologies to anyone who was out last Saturday night. I was a RIOT! I honestly danced my but off and for a 190 cm, 110 kg guy to dance like he doesn't care, requires a whole heap of space on the dance floor. I had a lot of fun at the ivy and i did get a little intoxicated over the course of the night which made that pool look very tempting, even though it was raining heavily. The music was great, the drinks were a little expensive (but where isn't these days), the lockers were a little silly. The lockers take $2 every time you open them. I never knew and ended up spending $8.00 just in locker fees. No, i didn't learn the first, second or third time! The entry fee was excessive but the rent at place i would assume would be as well.
