We had our work Melbourne Cup event at Ryan's bar. Great outdoor setting with pretty decent pubish food. I like good fushion food and the Peking duck pizza was definitely a stand out. The staff were great in helping my friend find her phone after she lost it at some point during the day. With summer just a around the corner one can only expect this place to be getting busier and busier in the next few months.

Get drunk and get sloppy with Sydney's suits at Ryan's Bar! Located at the back of Australia Square, Ryan's is a very popular place for people working in the area to let off steam and truly unwind...and drink a lot. During happy hour, beer and house wines are $5, which is a great deal. The bar is basically a huge outdoor zone with umbrella-shaded tables and seats. It's actually a really nice place to be when you find yourself in the CBD with weather is nice. Sometimes there's a DJ playing some music. I can't say that I've eaten anything at Ryan's Bar, but I know that Ryan's Kitchen has a sufficient menu with gourmet pizzas, fish, and other bar foods. It's the atmosphere at Ryan's that I really like. It's not in the least bit pretentious, but a place where people seem to let their guard down and chill out. During lunchtime, I've seen people bring their own lunch with them and eat it as they sip a drink. The only thing is that you have to go to the bar to order your drinks. Service is good; the bartenders have always been courteous and speedy. Don't expect anything over the top or fancy, but it's still an enjoyable time.

Yes Ryans Bar and Chicane use to sit in the middle of the financial district until they all started to move down towards Darling Harbour and out to bigger spaces in the inner west. Despite this shift it still remains popular with city workers who come to wind down. Friday nights the crowd has a mixture of suits, students, killer stillettos and short skirts and the courtyard pulsates with the masses. During summer its popular to grab lunch and watch the cricket on the plasmas. There are 25 beers on offer including 15 by the bottle. Wine is avaliable also with a favour on the whites. The food is standard bar food including pizzas, burgers, french fries and steaks though most choose liquid dinners when they choose to go to Ryans Bar.

    Friday night crowd.

If you work in the city, head to Ryan's Bar on a Friday for after work drinks. The place is filled to the brim with suits. As the sun goes down, stiletto wearing females join the crowd and a DJ pumps out loud top 40 hits. He is no musical genius but he does know how to get the crowd pumping and people will tend to make their own dance floors. Sport is televised so you will never miss a game of Friday night footy. Don't come here to eat, come here to mingle. Make some new friends and enjoy this casual laid back, no judgement bar. There aren't too many left.

Ryans Bar in the down stairs courtyard of Australia Square is a popular joint for city workers looking for a quick drink or few after a day in the office. It's a massive place which is basically all outdoors that in summer especially, becomes very popular. This means that queuing up can be a lengthy experience and weaving your way through everyone to go to the bathroom can become quite nerve-wracking depending on your level of fluid capacity. A well done must be given to the staff who find your table number to deliver your pizza from the bistro and there's always some sort of music playing in the background or if you're lucky a live band. There's always a buzz in this place. Lunchtime, whilst still popular is certainly not as packed so that's always a good option if you want to escape the indoors and grab a bite or refreshment. Or both.

Being close to where I used to work, I'd frequent this place quite a bit, and before it was a PJs it was a mates fave city pub so we'd catch up over a few here from time to time. There's a pretty good mix of people in the street-level bar, and PJs have converted it into more of a sports bar so there are plenty of screens for the sports nuts to check out their favourite teams prospects. PJs typically have pretty good fare. In winter they have two absolute cracking dishes. The Guiness Pie with mushy peas, and their signature lamb shanks which is totally unctuous. Why such a modest score? Price kills the place. It's not one of the cheaper places to get a beer as someone incorrectly states in their tips, it's easily one of the most expensive places to get a beer. You're paying over the top prices for domestic tap beer. A cheap beer is $5 for a Coopers Pale Ale, which you can get on the same street about 200m up the road... Also... As much as I enjoy a good pokie section, this one ain't good. And by that I mean the clientelle. It brings in the undesireable types, and sours what is otherwise a sweet pub. The snug, the downstairs den, has a great looking bar, and "snug" seating, but it's kinda pointless down there. It doesn't feel snug, it feels stuffy and claustrophobic - and the bar has never been manned when I've been down there. Now, if they moved the pokies to the snug, and then opened up the entire bar at the street-level to include the room vacated by the pokie section, you'd have something. But why would they do that when they can get by with what they have.

Being in the city, it can get quite busy very quickly and is a decently sized basement multi-storied pub. TV screens are usually are usually playing Fox sports or something similar. I order the Parmy, just to be on the the safe side. I wasn't too game to try the Pie which is supposed to be one of the best (as judged by Irish people I work with) around. The food is carefully prepared and you can tell the produce is quality and they've cooked it properly which some pubs sometimes struggle to do consistently... The chips were the standout side, crisp and crunchy! Definitely will be trying the stew or pie, that is if I'm brave enough to.
