We contracted NC Tile of Marathon Florida to complete a tile job in our home. We would like to…read moreshare the experience we had working with this company. The job consisted of completing the floor we had already began as well as 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. We thought we could accomplish this part ourselves; however, due to time constraints we could not. They sent 2 workers to our home. The workers consistently showed up no earlier than 10 am. They would normally work until 12;00 or 13:00 and then take lunch for 30 minutes to an hour. When they did resume work, it would only be for a few hours, and they would leave by 15:00. A few times they would stay later, just a few. I believe they were based in Marathon; the job was no more than 30 to 45 minutes away depending on traffic. The owner of the company asked us to provide gas money for his workers. We paid him over $12,000 for this work. We did not have bathroom facilities on the job. The HoA did not allow porta-potty's on the property. However, there were complete bathroom facilities, including showers no further than 100 yards away. We provided transportation in the form of a golf cart to use these facilities. The workers decided to urinate in water bottles instead of using the public restrooms. To make this matter worse, the hid the bottles filled with their urine behind various building materials throughout the house. We were left to dispose of them ourselves rather than tolerate the odor, especially over the weekend. This was rather disgusting. They completed the job without sealing the grout. When we inquired, we were told by the owner that he did not include this task on his bid. We are not tile installers; however, even a novice would know that grout sealant is an integral part of a tile job. Furthermore, gaps, missing grout, and grout lines that were not completely fill were everywhere. The floor was left filthy with patches of mortar and grout. There were several areas where the grout was already dirty because it was not sealed. We asked the owner to send them back to complete the cleaning. The workers returned for a few hours only to accomplish minimal improvement. We WOULD NOT recommend NC Tile of Marathon for any tile job. Their workmanship, punctually, and hygiene is, at the very least, questionable. We understand they have a store in Key Largo as well.
