I've tried Yoga a number of times - TriYoga, Power Yoga (yuck), Third Eye Yoga - and It's Yoga, aka the Yoga Garage, finally lured me back. Definitely a whole-in-the-wall yoga place but that doesn't make it any less good. The instructor, sunshine, was super nice and perky and was clearly passionate about yoga. She definitely gave my body a full stretch. It hurt a little bit at first holding each pose 5 minutes but after awhile it was relaxing I almost fell asleep in the weirdest pose! The studio is a bit bare bones but you don't need anything fancy to do yoga. I will say the air conditioning is really loud. It'll be super quiet and then the air conditioning comes screaming on kind of ruining my peace and concentration. They have beginners and advanced yoga. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Mother/Daughter activities are hard for my mom and I to agree on but yoga sounded good. I didn't know much about yoga but after checking out the website for Its Yoga in the gaslight district of Clifton I settled on the beginner ashtanga class. Unfortunately for the bonding experience even the beginning ashtange was too intense for mom and had I been more educated on yoga styles I would have been better off with the Integral Yoga class or the anusara class. Mom bowed out after a couple weeks but I continued to attend and found the beginner ashtanga was tough even for me and I consider myself very fit and reasonably flexible. Tuesday mornings I would wake slowly and try to walk my sore muscles awake again. If you're uninitiated into the community it can seem intimidating. There are some pretentious and slightly condescending attitudes but overall I was very pleased with what I learned. The entrance has a public information board and stairs up to the top. There are cubby holes for belongings and for a $2 fee you can use a house yoga mat. One of the more awkward aspects is the waiting space is limited and because of the open ceiling construction you are asked to wait quietly for the class before you to wrap up. If you miss a class or wish to try something different halfway through a session, class passes are flexible. Indu Bala Bhardwaj was my instructor. I mentioned that I was a belly dancer and realized soon after that she was targeting me and challenging me more than other students. It wasn't until a class later that I realized she thought I said ballet dancer and having been a professional ballet dancer, expected me to step up. She was direct and to the point, well spoken and clear as well as incredibly educated in what she was teaching. Indu has high expectations and an earned arrogance. If you decide to pursue your yoga training here be aware that this isn't the watered down, happy yoga you will find at many small, outlying studios. Stretch, breath, learn. read more

Well, I've been sucked back in. After three years being yoga free, I have betrayed all my promises to myself and gone to Anusara class at It's Yoga. Okay, I'm mostly joking. But in my family, yoga is almost, well, a religion. And I enjoy it, but I was never a devotee. Yoga feels good if you can relax, but it can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. ("Put my leg where?") And I was forewarned that at least one It's Yoga instructor encourages his/her students to "Relax [their] anus[es]!" Picture 10 to 15 people in thin pants doing that. Like I said, embarrassing and uncomfortable. I also dread the time before the class starts, when the prior class is in shiva asana and of course there's not enough space for my class to wait in (my studio in CT was like this too. are they all?) so i have to stand too close to lots of strangers and be quiet without seeming perverted or rude. The good thing about the anusara class is that it's easier. There are no exercises that involve your anus. And these people haven't been doing yoga for years, so they aren't as annoyingly gorgeous as most yoga women. Also, my friend Shalini usually teaches it. But she wasn't there today, dammit. The bad bit is that they make you do things with partners, which would have been icky or weird if my sister hadn't been there. It did help with some of the balance poses though. And apparently my posture sucks, so the teacher corrected almost all my poses, even shiva asana. I guess dead people don't slouch. (She did say that if we didn't want her to correct us, all we had to do was say so. I whined, but I never actually shouted, "DON'T TOUCH ME THERE!" so i'm guessing i can't press charges.) I'm going back next week. It felt great. read more

Instructor... A master of her craft. She was hands on correcting your body to insure proper alignment (which increases effectiveness and decreases likelihood of injury) & form, and extremely knowledgeable. Worth following... I used to go to the Sunday morning (or was it Saturday morning?) free community classes in Friendship Park during the summers. I don't think they do them anymore, but they DID, which makes them awesome. I love a business that invites the community to get involved, healthy, and/or try them out for free. Moreover, my big ol' thighs hurt for days after, which tells me that even if the free classes in the park aren't offered anymore, they can make you hurt. And that's gotta be good. read more

Nestled on top of the Ludlow Garage, this cute little yoga studio is yet another gem in the clifton area. They lead from Yin to Ashtanga to aerial. The only negative in this little place is the fact that the studio portion is not cut off from the check-in area. The class coming in can sometimes disrupt the ending of your class. Other than that, everyone is great and the classes energize (or relax) just about anyone who comes in. read more

It's Yoga is the best place to go for yoga classes in the city. They offer classes throughout the day, seven days a week. Indu and Kurt are two of my favorite instructors. Kurt will get you laughing and make it fun, while Indu is the most incredible instructor. She's able to make everyone focus and challenge oneself the entire hour and a half to ensure that you have the highest quality workout. It's yoga courses range from beginning level courses to advanced level. Students should check out the ninety dollars for ninety days of yoga special, it's a great deal and the perfect way to manage stress. read more

This is a pretty great studio. They were the first yoga studio in Cincinnati and a lot of the better instructors in Cincinnati were trained there. Most of the classes there are Ashtanga classes. (Ashtanga is the most traditional yoga style taught in the U.S.--The studio owner Mike studied with Larry Schulz, who popularized Ashtanga in the U.S.) Ashtanga concentrates connecting the poses with the breath. Nicki, Kurt, and Indu are probably the most well-known (in Cincinnati) teachers there. I haven't taken any of Indu's classes, but she did a lot to bring yoga to Cincinnati and is very popular. Nicki and Kurt's classes are really good. The studio doesn't have hardwood floors--hardwood floors are most aesthetically pleasing but the carpet is easier on the body. Your mileage may vary. It's Yoga isn't "trendy" the way that some studios are, and seems to attract more serious practitioners and people who want to be serious practitioners. It is very beginner-friendly, with only a few classes that might be challenging for people who haven't done yoga. Parking can be tricky on Ludlow, though I believe parking is available for free in the merchant's lot. read more

I've done yoga (mostly ashtanga) on and off for the last few years, in several different cities and at different studios. After I moved to Cinci, I decided it was time to go back. It's Yoga is overall, a nice place to practice. Two strikes made this less than a 5 star place: 1. Office carpet flooring. Gross. Yes, you're on the mat for many poses, but when your limbs, or heaven forbid, your face, go off the mat...itchy, scratchy, yuck. I find it distracting, since I try to avoid the carpet during class. Germiphobes, beware. I never appreciated hardwood floor yoga until now. 2. The owner, Indu. Many say she's great, and I hope you'll be luckier than me. I had a really frustrating experience in her class after she decided it would be fun to pick on me. For the entire class. She even went so far as to acknowledge that she was doing it. I left the class tense, both physically and mentally, even after the dead-man, let it all go shivasana. I guess I wasn't dead enough to let it go. Maybe someday. If it were anything but yoga, I would be okay with the "tear you down" style she employed with me. But alas, I come to yoga for peace. And killer arms. Special note: It's Yoga is great if you're a student, with their $90/90 days deal. Never seen a deal that awesome. It's what got me to go. read more

I followed an unbelievably wonderful Yoga Instructor (Cindy) to this studio. Cindy is everything you would want in a Yoga Teacher - skilled, gentle, patient and able to help all ability levels find challenge without harm. She does this within the class too so you feel like you have a personal trainer! The studio is great, as well - small classes, convenient location and an calm, unpretentious air - you will not feel like you wore the wrong yoga togs here and you will learn a great mind/body approach to yoga. read more

THAI YOGA MASSAGE THERAPY WITH MIKE B I had my first thai yoga massage therapy session with Mike yesterday. I have been suffering from constant headaches throughout the last year and a half and after my session with Mike I am feeling the best I have since the headaches started. He has such a strong, therapeutic touch, felt wonderful on the pressure points he used. He was very welcoming when I came in and had everything clean and laid out for me. After the session was over I just felt so rejuvenated. My headache was gone, my head felt so light and wonderful. It has been 24 hours and my head still feels refreshed!! SO amazing not waking up with a headache for once. I would definitely recommend Mike, he knows about different thai yoga protocols besides migraines, like knee and back pain. This is by far my favorite yoga studio in Cincinnati. The teachers here are exceptional. I especially love Indu, Kurt, Cindy, Rebecca, Mike, and Anele. I've been practicing here for about a year and highly recommend it. There are classes for everyone, and no matter what your skill level may be, the teachers are able to teach you to do the pose in a manner that is best for your body. This is a great studio for people who want to learn to move their bodies correctly and do the poses correctly. My favorite class is the Sunday morning Ashtanga 2 practice. read more

My absolute favourite yoga place in town!!! And actually out of town, too! No matter where I decide to try a class, I always end up wishing I went to It's Yoga about halfway through the practice. I hate to leave a good review as I want to just keep these guys to myself.... It was the first place I tried yoga at. These days I do it a lot using yoga apps at home, but keep coming back to yoga garage so I can get corrections from instructors. The room set up is the best I've experienced so far - only two rows of students facing each other. This ensures very personal, hands on attention from instructors and also not having to worry about 30 or so pretzeled people staring at your awkwardly twisted and probably sweaty butt. I love the easy, relaxing energy of the place and its non-pretentious simplicity(especially if you compare it to more modern, lululemoned, achiever-type trendy studios, yeeeeeeeshhhhhh!). I also love how the instructors really make you work there, and I just have to repeat myself - give a very personal attention to every student. It's Yoga is a Clifton gem! Serene space, quiet, yet part of the local neighborhood. Can let the day go as the practice begins. Several great classes to choose from. The instructors do a good job and each one has a different feel. I go to Kristen's Monday and Wednesday practices as much as I can. They are very different with Monday being more of an Ashtanga flow, and on Wednesday exploring a different theme each week. Love it and it keeps this 50+ year old in shape! read more
