THIS IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY! I signed up for 6 months It was important to me to meet people no farther than a 30 minute drive from my home. My first date was someone who lived 40 minutes away from me and we did not have a single solitary thing in common. I remained optimistic and I figured they were trying to get to know my interests. My second date lived 45 minutes away from me! The very last date I had was also outside of my distance preference. This was a persistent problem throughout the 6 months. I can understand if they have trouble figuring out who you will find attractive, but figuring out how far you live from a potential match should be a no brainer! I had about 12 dates. I had little in common with most of them. They kept sending me out with people who love the outdoors when I am a total city girl. They are supposed to contact you after a date to get feedback so they can hone their matching skills. My last date was with a man who lived outside of the distance parameter and once again we had nothing in common. I do not think they have a large enough client base and they basically just sent me out with people who were in my age range. (45-55) read more

It's easy for me to ask women if they are single or willing to date in a public setting, but most women get the wrong impression immediately. I looked into this company 2 years ago when I was wanting to settle down. I had moved to a new area and wasn't having much luck on some of the other sites. I talked to someone there and decided I wasn't going to pay that just to date someone (sorry- just my opinion). Well, I met my boyfriend shortly after contacting them. They have CONTINUED to call me several times over the last 2 years. I seriously told them 2-3 months ago that I had a boyfriend and I just got another call TODAY. Even if I ever found myself single and dating I would NEVER go through this company. Leave people alone. I am obviously happy and in a relationship (the same one for the last 2 years might I add...) and yet you can't leave me alone. I would never recommend these people to anyone. I agree 100% with all the bad reviews. If I could give zero stars, I definitely would! If you haven't signed up yet, DON'T!! In my initial conversations with Julie, I was apprehensive about signing up for many reasons and told her during numerous phone calls that I was not interested. About a month later, another 'matchmaker' Kim called me repeatedly to try and get me to sign up. She continually called me and reassured me over and over again that this was professional organization and always told me what I wanted to hear. Every time I had a question, she had the response she knew I wanted to hear. One question I asked more than once was if IJL currently had clients who would be compatible in the Madison area and I was assured there were. Three weeks after signing, I had my initial meeting with Julie. She wanted to know how my 1st date went and was surprised to hear that I hadn't had one yet. I too was surprised and more so because she wasn't aware since this is her business to know. At the time she said 'there is nothing we can do about that now, so let's just move forward' which I agreed. Both 'matchmakers' expressed the key to getting the right matches would be the follow up calls 24 hours after each date. They said they would call me and both strongly expressed that these calls were very important and that I needed to be very honest with my feedback. They stated this is the only way they will get a better indication of who I am and am not compatible with. After my first 2 dates, I never received a call from anyone to discuss. Three weeks later I had to call them to see if anyone was going to call me. Another concern I had was I had heard it's not about setting you up with compatible matches but to be sure IJL meets their 1 date/month contract minimum. I had 2 dates, one was with someone from Rockford, IL and the other with someone from the St. Francis area. Clearly not in the Madison area as promised. I have had no follow up calls to inquire about either date. I was also told these dates would be set up under our first names and separate checks would be given at the end of the date per the contract and both Kim and Julie. When I arrived at the restaurant(an hour from my home), there was no reservation under our names. Thankfully the date walked in a minute behind me and we figured it out but it was an awkward start. At the end of the date, they brought us 1 bill and we had to ask for it to be separated, again an awkward moment. Being set up with the initial 2 men it was very obvious they had been in the system for a while. I felt I was being set up so as to meet IJL's contract minimums for myself and these 2 men as I expressed in my initial concerns. Three weeks after my 1st date, I called IJL to see if anyone was going to check in. Again, I received another apology and was assured this is not how it should be handled. When I asked to get out of my contract, Violet stated I would have to speak to their attorney which I agreed. Sabrina(not an attorney) was always quick to put the blame on others. She asked why I didn't call either Kim or Julie after my dates. From everything they promise in their sales pitches to lure you in, isn't that what we are paying them a lot of money to do and what was promised. She also blamed the restaurant for the date not being set up. When I confirmed that it was indeed IJL's error all she said was 'thank you for that information'. From then, Sabrina offered to set me up on dates. I questioned that as the 'office manager' is she qualified since she never met me or the men she thought were matches. It was very clear the only information she had was from the file she was obviously reading and had no clue about me or them. To date, I have never heard back from either Kim or Julie. Now, Sabrina, the office manager is trying to do what the 'matchmakers' are supposed to do?! From the start, it was a horrible experience, poor customer service and a very unprofessional company who practice on telling a lot of untruths to get you to sign up. I briefly looked into IJL years ago (literally, 5-6 years ago) but was thrown off by their very high fees. (Looks like it's primarily a service to weed out all the unfortunate non-wealthy people you might encounter on Match.com...) I am now married and living in another state. Imagine my surprise, then, when I started getting a series of calls from IJL this week, encouraging me to contact them about their monthly special or some horseshit like that. At first, the caller didn't even say which company it was, just something like, "Hi, it's Jen! Give me a call when you have a moment. I've got something to discuss!", etc etc. After the 3rd or 4th call, I finally learned my suitor was It's Just Lunch. All of these calls came before 8 am. Needless to say, I haven't returned them. If you're shallow, focused on wealth, don't mind having your privacy violated by early morning calls from a business you didn't even sign up for YEARS AGO, then IJL is probably the perfect thing for you. Hopefully these nuisance calls are a sign of desperation, and I'll find out next month that they've gone out of business. read more

This place is a scam. While I completely acknowledge that I'm at fault for forking over boatload of money for this service, I do believe I've been misled about what it promises to give you. First, you'll never know who/how many people truly work there. You have contact with one person (Janine) who treats you like crap if you don't like the date you've gone on. If you ask to work with someone else you'll be told that she's the only one and apparently she doesn't have a boss. They can treat you poorly with no repercussions. The customer service at this place is lousy. Second, you'll never know how many people they actually have signed up in their system. They say "lots; you'll be going on dates all the time. And we'll be able to get closer and closer to what you're looking for". However, they'll never give you a number and the variety of folks that you're set up with is pretty pathetic. Third, they'll tell you that they'll match based on your criteria. Not at all the case. You'll be going on dates with people who are the furthest thing that you're looking for. Finally, they lie about you and your dates. If you say you've been to Canada, they'll tell your dates that you are very well travelled. If you've run a mile in your lifetime, suddenly you're very athletic and outdoorsy. Save your self a lot of money and grief and avoid this service. read more

Warning as well....even if you simply inquire about their services, they will keep your name on file and call you ALL the time. They'll leave voice messages that are vague in order to get you to call them back. They will basically harass you until the point you need to change your phone number to make them go away. The problem is they only have a certain pool of men and women signed up so there are only so many to choose from. I'm sure their are a few success stories but take your money and spend it other dating services. This one is in it for the money only!! read more

My experience with this scam is similar to those posted on this site and on many other complaint forums online. I was pressured to sign up for the "Elite" service, was promised that there were many matches for me and handed them almost $4000. I was set up on 3 dates that were no where close to what I had requested and then the intervals between phone calls and emails continually increased. The employee turnover was so great, that when I tried to cancel my membership and pursue a partial refund, I would get promised refunds (in writing) and they never materialized. After each promise, I was told that the employee granting the refund did not have the authority to do so and no longer worked for IJL. THis is a complete scam and had I read reviews such as these posted online BEFORE I joined, I never would have been sucked in. RUN AWAY from IJL! read more

Customer service was not helpful in any way - actually increased my stress over the incident exponentially. They were unwilling to resolve my concerns in a satisfactory manner. Icompletely agree with anon a - in every way she/he mentions! Janine was the worst and, although some 'director' from the company called me to discuss my issues - the director had the same lack of customer service focus. I was told by one of my dates (a man) that his impression was that there were far more women who had joined than men as he had been on MANY dates but had heard from many of them that they had only been on a few. I dated three men in as many months (which is the minimum they commit to) and although all three seemed like pretty decent guys, the third was so far off that I couldn't believe the way they hyped him. 'The person who interviewed him said he was handsome, funny, friendly, intelligent, 5'10'', brown hair/brown eyes, blah blah blah.' He was not handsome, was very shy, his physique objectionable, he was significantly shoter than me (I'm 5'8") and he had facial hair which I specifically listed something I cannot tolerate. Sadly, I read Sara B's review and yet I signed up with ITJ! They had a deal going on so, I thought I'd take a chance. My feelings are the same as Sara's. I've been on 4 dates, all of whom I had nothing in common with. I also asked they not set me up with people over a certain age, but they did anyway. I actually spoke with the director about ways to improve ITJ (i.e. talk with members after a few unsuccessful dates, especially those who are discouraged) and then specifically told her what I was looking for but again, my matches didn't improve. Unfortunately, they clearly don't care about matching people nor with improving their business. It really could be a good business, but they are so disorganized, only want money and are truly apathetic. Also, if you don't agree with a date they want to set you up with, there's a big chance you won't get another date for awhile (which is now happening to me!). The dates I've been with all say the same thing---ITJ just throws people together, without really "matching" them up. I felt sorry for my dates because they were all so discouraged---as I am now! Again, I don't know why ITJ doesn't want to improve their business. If only they would listen to their members and actually work like a matchmaking business, they would be booming! Sigh. read more
