I can make it at home (I have a Greek SIL who taught me) but it's labor and time intensive, so I don't often do it. But I hit this festival early, buy a dozen (at least) of everything, shove some in my mouth and bring the rest home. I'm in and out in under an hour....parking is not a problem if you get there when they open Tonight we'll have a Greek Picnic on the patio, and I can't wait for that time to come..And the wine is cheaper here...it was $6 for what I consider a taste there. They close both major streets through town for the parade and street festival!…read more For the parade its tradition to go out a day or so before the parade and stake a claim to a piece of curb. Leaving folding chairs on your spot is part of the deal. And no one messes with your stuff. Its sort of code. Just love it. The parade is solid too. Lots of bands and marchers and well, lots of great sponsors too. A whole community thing! The street fair is just awesome. There are several bandstands and we've never been disappointed with the music variety and quality of talent! Lots of foodie options for everyone, local and exotic fare. Lots of places to take your stuff, cop a squat and a bit of shade and pig out! Lots of local artisans and plenty of cool arts and crafts to choose from. Its a great place to take the family, some community charm and hospitality and celebrate the day!

It is very kid-friendly, and dog-friendly. We were there for the corn, but mainly for the amazing corn dogs from Bite Me, a "gourmet" corn dog tent. Someone talked me into entering the corn eating contest. It was a weird, team event with several heats, so there really weren't any winners (or we were all winners, right?) The corn was good, the competitors were friendly, it was well-organized, and I had fun. Afterward we had a couple of corn dogs, including Sweetie's first-ever. A few sweet treats, a little wandering amongst the crowds, and we were off.

It's almost like I've stepped back into a Norman Rockwell painting where everyone knew their neighbors and there was a great sense of community. The Sugar Maple Festival occurs each spring, this year April 16-18. For a small town, the Sugar Maple Festival is a good sized festival. Because of this, parking is limited. We didn't see any dedicated parking so we parked at a market a few blocks back and walked the short walk over. It looks like the festival is divided into 3 sections. One street had all food (try the hot dogs at the fire department booth. Especially if you like spicy!), the park where there are children's activities and live music, and the craft booths and vendors. I wasn't too impressed with the vendors. Most of them were not local and there were even booths selling knock off designer purses! Next to the police department building! The fire department was giving a demonstration on how they respond to accidents, using the jaws of life to take the top off of a car. It was pretty interesting to watch and hear the narrator talk about what the responders do in a situation like that and what they are looking to do to make sure they save lives. It was a good time and I'd definitely love to go back and see the parade next year. And best of all, admission is free!

Fireworks were last nite - which was a GREAT SHOwJust awesome. We hung out in the big tent and listened to The Milos, an alternative folk group. The music was great! It was cloudy but hot. Lots going on again this year there's a food truck alley but it mights as well be masses of people trying to get to the food trucks in the alley kinda thing. All good though for a great holiday.
