The staff know their stuff and will work with you on measurements and ordering to ensure you aren't left short or break the bank and buy way too much. Keep in mind you can returned unopened boxes as well. They have a nice simple display set out so you can easily see what they have to offer for hardwood, engineered, laminates and cork. What isn't in stock at the store can be available within a few days . Often faster than you may be ready for! They also have a good supply of trim, doors and vents. I like to shop here for a couple of reasons. 1-It's a Bowness business and I like to support Bowness. This is a neighborhood that has had a lot of challenges with flooding and for some the perception of being the "hood". Well I think its a great hood and I want to support its local businesses. 2-The staff know their stuff and they always offer helpful tips on install not to mention throwing a 10% discount in on orders over a certain $$. It may not seem like much but hey its 10% I don't gotta pay so I'll take it and say thank you. 3 - the quality of their products and a great offering of Canadian hardwood. You may get a great deal on an Asian imported wood but nothing beats Canadian products in this dry as a desert climate we call Alberta. Not to mention uniform lengths and widths. Not saying there isn't awesome stuff out of the USA but hey, support our Canadian lumber market please!

You guys definitely have a repeat customer here!

My do-gooder senses are tingling…read more Have you ever heard of the Habitat ReStore SuperStore? Me neither until today. It's in the NE right next to The Brick. Competition? Probably not. But it's an ingenious little concept that seems to be working. The space Habitat has secured is HUGE. It's comparable to any other big furniture store in square footage. The difference here is that all of the furniture is donated (right now there's a ton of furniture from The Palliser since they're doing a bunch of renos. I'm going back to get me one of the desks). Any of the profits from the store go back to supporting Habitat for Humanity. They've got everything from bathtubs and kitchen sinks, to dining room chairs, living room sets, armoirs, desks, even a row of doors at the back should you need a new one of those. Beyond supporting Habitat, the best part of this place is the price tag. Most of it was priced at $100 or under. How perfect is that? Especially if you're planning on turning one of these finds into your own little custom project. What you won't get is a guaranteed find. The furniture is sold as-is and is dependent on what people bring in. But hey, the price is right, the cause is right, and if the piece of furniture fits, that's enough reason for me to stop in here first.

My house has a lighting issue. I dont mean that there is an issue with the fixtures. I mean, that…read moreeven when it is sunny and all the curtains are open, it is not a bright, sunny place. Especially in my developed basement. It has many windows, but there is just not enough light in the common areas, until all the lights are on. In an effort to brighten the place up a bit, I was referred to the Home Improvement Warehouse Ltd. What a cool, COOL place! The service that was recommended to me, was to bring some of my doors in (not a bathroom door of course!!) and to cut out the middles and put in frosted glass, so that the light from my windows can be enjoyed from my office and a few other key places. The short story, is I did not even know a service like this existed! Like a fool, I would have bought a new door! So I had some help uninstalling my doors and bringing them in, and now at a reasonable rate, Home Improvement Warehouse will leave a wood border, and fill in the rest with a frosted glass, so that the light may shine! This isnt all these folks do! I bought some primer at $40 a gallon elsewhere, and found the same primer there at $26.99 (doh!). They have all kinds of gadgets and gismos for home improvements and renovations. I saw supplies and layouts for all kinds of bathroom and kitchen renos as well. Definately if you are taking on a home improvement project in Calgary, pop in here and see what they have. The prices and selections at this warehouse of handiness look pretty good to me!

I paid up front for my…read morehardwood floors, had half of them installed, then waited 8 months for these guys to finish the job. When I went to complain to the owner I thought he might be somewhat conciliatory, maybe even apologetic and reassuring. I started off being quite reasonable, but was fairly surprised and taken aback when he was belligerent, aggressive and swore at my wife and I. He was actually fairly physically intimidating and told me that he "didn't have time for this %$^& ( I won't use his language) , and he was "done with me." Which is interesting since he had thousands of dollars of my money and I had bare sub-floors in my house. Nice. He hung up on me on several occasions after that, and gave me several opportunities to sample his impressive and extensive collection of profanity. They finally showed up to finish the job (like they were doing me a huge favour) but every time I look at my crappy hardwood floors I curse and wish I'd used another business. I have gaping gaps between the boards that you could stick a loonie in - even though Home Improvement Warehouse did the installation, and despite my top of the line humidifier. Cheap product + brutal unprofessional service = shoddy results. Take my advice and stick to reputable companies, with a proven track-record of service. If I can save one of you from going through what I did, I'll be happy. Don't shop here.

Other places either had me drive all over town to suppliers or had little to no selection whatsoever. Install was good. Had to seal the granite and install my own brace for the bridge for slide in oven, sweep up the dust on front step from cutting done out there (previous companies did this as part of the job), but for the cost savings, I don't mind doing this. The seam by the sink is a bit rough, but again, for the price...not going to make a issue. The installers were fast and careful not to damage new cabinets or appliances. A good place to deal with, and will be going back to get bathroom vanities.

We hired A1 Granite for a commercial project in Regina involving two kitchens. The countertops they…read moredelivered were significantly incorrect, could not be installed, and were completely unusable. These were not minor variances -- one did not match their own drawings, and another was undersized by a large margin, eliminating key functionality and making install impossible Despite this, A1 attempted to place responsibility on us for incorrect measurements, even though the work was quoted correctly (and paid for) off our rough dimensions and they required professional templating -- which is standard in this industry (in fact demanded - quite clearly not accepting customer measurements) When that position was challenged, they then argued it was our fault for approving their drawings, despite the fact that we are not fabricators, their contract does not assign that responsibility to the customer, and we have no knowledge of fabrication tolerances (clearances, blade allowances, wall recessing, etc.), which is exactly why templating exists. Their explanations continued to shift. They claimed no one was present during templating, despite this being an active office building during business hours with staff and our project supervisor on site. When that was disproven, they then suggested they were instructed otherwise -- without any documentation, and contrary to the quoted and invoiced scope (which did not reflect any reduction in material despite smaller fabricated pieces). Lastly, one of the kitchens they templated was off old cabinets even though we have documentation notifying them that this were to be changed, and again when they were changed and to come and measure (unless they were okay with the risk of going off the renderings we provided). Noone returned to template. They were hired to measure, fabricate, and install, but ultimately admitted to working from outdated cabinetry and did not properly re-template before cutting. Installation was never completed, and their crew arrived without the necessary tools to even finish the job. What made this worse was how it was handled afterward. From installers through to Sonia Sandhu and Aman Bathla (office in an entirely different province we had to deal with), there was no accountability. The only "resolution" offered was a partial refund or that we pay additional money to remake countertops that were incorrect due to their own work. Communication was inconsistent and difficult, and there was no meaningful effort to resolve the issue. This left us with unusable materials, disrupted operations, and no functioning kitchens, ultimately requiring us to hire replacement contractors and pay for entirely new installations. I have used this company before, and they previously made a measurement error that had to be corrected. Bottom line: Major fabrication errors followed by refusal to take responsibility. I would strongly recommend caution before working with this company.
