TL;DR - Great food, but we had a poor experience…read more Anatolian Grill is always busy whenever you go past so we decided to find out what all the fuss was about. It may not be in the most attractive of locations on Bury New Road, but the interior is bright, modern and welcoming. We arrived on a Saturday night and it was absolutely heaving - good job we'd booked a table in advance! We were seated fairly promptly and our orders taken. And then the wait began... it must have been about 30 minutes at the very least and our waitress came and apologised for the delay. We got some free nibbles (olives and feta) which were nice, but by the time our starters came we'd been waiting for over an hour. We then had another long wait for our main course which came with lots of apologies (apparently one of the chefs was off sick) and the offer of a free drink or dessert. The food itself was very good indeed. I had some nice feta parcels to start, Tom had calamari and Sparky had falafel. For mains I had a really delicious moussaka, Tom had a "sizzler" (which was sizzling like crazy when it arrived!) and mark had a lamb and chicken dish with rice. All very authentic, all very tasty. I've debated whether or not to award 3 or 4 stars here. Our waitress was very friendly and apologetic, but at the end of the day we sat down at 8.15pm and didn't get our main course until it was nearly 10pm. A couple of other rough edges - like the fact the lock on the gents' toilet door didn't work - mean I've gone with 3 rather than 4.

Lovely handmade cocktails. Some of the best food ive had in ages. Lamb so tender it was falling…read moreapart. I will be back very soon!!

The food here is always freshly prepared over a grill and the salad is the best I have ever had from a takeout/sit in café. The salad contains lots of different things and is always nicely presented. Whatever you order you get 'turkish' bread which is freshly rolled out and baked and is excellent. There are many items on the menu but I would recommend the mixed kofta or the lamb burger (served without the amazing salad etc.). I have also tried the chicken which is also very good. I also recommend the curry. This isn't anything like you'd get in Rusholme or the likes but more like a home style curry you'd make at home but this with the rice 'n' chickpeas is lovely. Seating area is large and this place is very clean. I would highly recommend. Delivery service has always been good whenever I've used it whilst at work.

Only came in as a guy from work eats here every week and I pass it on the way home. I would have sent my two lone skewers of meat back (and the guy did offer to change it) if I wasn't so I hungry, so I settled at them bringing me a naan and some salad to go with the kofta. The man who took our original order, I don't think his English and/or listening skills were that great as all he kept saying was 'kofta' even before our food arrived. Just make sure you see what they're writing down and clarify what you've ordered. My friend wasn't too impressed that they seemed to rush taking the order rather than paying attention to what we wanted. All in all though, I have to say their homemade spicy and mint/yoghurt sauces are blooming delicious and the kofta was still worth it, after a long day.

Istanbul Palace opened its doors a mere 8 months ago but has already started creating a buzz…read moreamongst local foodies. A Turkish restaurant with Iranian owners might seem a strange mix at first but the unique Persian themed establishment turned out to be a perfect scenario for a Eastern cuisine aficionado like me when I visited recently. The restaurant is surprisingly big with 75 covers and decor is nothing short of stunning. The walls adorn Persian art and each diner also gets to dine with their own unique table cover art. The food isn't bad either. Having chosen a weekday for my latest foodie adventure I wasn't expecting it to be overly busy and it wasn't. This meant I could have a proper gander, take plenty of pics and chat to the manager. It turned out to be a great choice resulting in a fantastic first impression which concluded with me letting the chef pick my two mains (Which at £12.95 I thought was decent value given the quality of the food) So, what was the food like? Well, I started with the 'Olivieh' which was a mild yet utterly delicious side to go with the Lamb sizzler main. At first it looked like a yogurt based chutney type concoction that usually goes with the lamb, but upon investigation turned out to be something much better. Made with shredded chicken, potatoes, egg and mixed with some mayonnaise the recipe seemed so simple yet laced with genius (According to my taste buds anyway) I'm definitely making the stuff at home and cheat claiming it as my own at my next shindig. The lamb sizzler was the main attraction however and boy was it box office. Cooked in some special sweet (Chinese style sauce) the meat was tender but had a barbecue like taste and the vegetables that were cooked and served with it were divine. The accompanying rice and salad complemented its taste perfectly and though I forget the name of the two sauces served on the side (I MUST have them again) they were sensational. The incredible, belly busting night was rounded off with a special home made ice cream. I'd never tasted anything like it. It was the culinary equivalent of some kind of weird yet wonderful foodie dream. It completely confused the hell out of my foodie senses. It looked like ice cream but tasted like.... hmmm how shall I put this.... a cross between Turkish delight, frozen yoghurt and ice cream. Daaaamn it was good though. The only downside was I was too full to finish it, doh! (The lamb sizzlerwas a sizable main and had wiped me out) The only slight downside to this place is its location in the heart of Stockport. Let's face it, it's not like everyone from Greater Manchester flocks here for a night out/dining out experiance when Friday comes knocking. But perhaps, just perhaps... Istanbul Palace can change that (They have a belly dancing entertainment night, which looks ace and I might check out) It certainly has changed my mindset about coming to these neck of the woods. It's a smashing little foodie hidden gem which is guaranteed to be not as busy and rowdy as most of the city centre haunts if you're looking to get away from the kitchen and dine out. Despite a bit of a parking nightmare on the road, it gets much better after office hours (After 6pm parking is free) when it's quietened down. With it being only 10 minutes walk away from Stockport train station (which in turn is around 10 minutes away from Piccadilly) it's not that difficult/time consuming to get to from the city centre. The bus routes are also quite good with the restaurant being 5 minutes walk from the central station. In fact I like the place so much I might register a yelp event for those interested in checking the place out with me when I return. So watch this space, or if you're not a space watcher check it out your yelpity yelp self!

I'm not sure how to score this place…read more The restaurant was nicely styled, everything new, clean etc., though it had no Turkish/ Istanbul character, nothing to suggest this was a Turkish restaurant - no character. It was busy ( for a Thursday night ) so that speaks volumes. I was in a group of about 15, on a work's night out, and we'd arranged prior that we'd just have a selection of food brought out to the table and everyone tuck in - so no one was choosing a la carte. Starters were lovely, though not much of it, with great spicy sausage & falafel, but very very tight on the hummous, tzadziki and pitta. However, the main course was just 4 big plates of meat. Well cooked, good quality but just meat. We all had a plate with some rice and a small salad, but the meat was overwhelming. It was too dry. None of it marinated. No accompanying sauces, dips or sides. A very boring meal. I will go again, just to order off an a la carte menu, but I didn't enjoy this meal.

It beats all of the Turkish restaurants I have tried in the UK and even in the Turkish foodie hub of Kalkan. Prices are very reaonanle and the Angora red wine fits the cuisine like a glove. The lemon sorbet (try it with a shot of vodka) is the perfect palate cleanser among a variety of desserts.
