However this time, I got a takeaway on my way back from the cinema (the savoy, I would 100% recommend) and ordered it before I went to watch the movie and told them to have it ready for 8:30. I was early and ended up getting there at 8:15 so fair enough it shouldn't have to be ready for that time but I ended up getting the food at 8:40 and when I got back home I realised that I hadn't exactly got the food I wanted. They gave me about 5 boxes of rice instead of 2 of chips and 2 of rice. I also ordered the meze which should've been 2 of 3 different things, I ended up getting 2 of 2 different things but I did get a free garlic bread (because the order was over £20). This was a little annoying but the food that I did get was great so I would recommend.

A Turkish restaurant with Iranian owners might seem a strange mix at first but the unique Persian themed establishment turned out to be a perfect scenario for a Eastern cuisine aficionado like me when I visited recently. The restaurant is surprisingly big with 75 covers and decor is nothing short of stunning. The walls adorn Persian art and each diner also gets to dine with their own unique table cover art. The food isn't bad either. Having chosen a weekday for my latest foodie adventure I wasn't expecting it to be overly busy and it wasn't. This meant I could have a proper gander, take plenty of pics and chat to the manager. It turned out to be a great choice resulting in a fantastic first impression which concluded with me letting the chef pick my two mains (Which at £12.95 I thought was decent value given the quality of the food) So, what was the food like? Well, I started with the 'Olivieh' which was a mild yet utterly delicious side to go with the Lamb sizzler main. At first it looked like a yogurt based chutney type concoction that usually goes with the lamb, but upon investigation turned out to be something much better. Made with shredded chicken, potatoes, egg and mixed with some mayonnaise the recipe seemed so simple yet laced with genius (According to my taste buds anyway) I'm definitely making the stuff at home and cheat claiming it as my own at my next shindig. The lamb sizzler was the main attraction however and boy was it box office. Cooked in some special sweet (Chinese style sauce) the meat was tender but had a barbecue like taste and the vegetables that were cooked and served with it were divine. The accompanying rice and salad complemented its taste perfectly and though I forget the name of the two sauces served on the side (I MUST have them again) they were sensational. The incredible, belly busting night was rounded off with a special home made ice cream. I'd never tasted anything like it. It was the culinary equivalent of some kind of weird yet wonderful foodie dream. It completely confused the hell out of my foodie senses. It looked like ice cream but tasted like.... hmmm how shall I put this.... a cross between Turkish delight, frozen yoghurt and ice cream. Daaaamn it was good though. The only downside was I was too full to finish it, doh! (The lamb sizzlerwas a sizable main and had wiped me out) The only slight downside to this place is its location in the heart of Stockport. Let's face it, it's not like everyone from Greater Manchester flocks here for a night out/dining out experiance when Friday comes knocking. But perhaps, just perhaps... Istanbul Palace can change that (They have a belly dancing entertainment night, which looks ace and I might check out) It certainly has changed my mindset about coming to these neck of the woods. It's a smashing little foodie hidden gem which is guaranteed to be not as busy and rowdy as most of the city centre haunts if you're looking to get away from the kitchen and dine out. Despite a bit of a parking nightmare on the road, it gets much better after office hours (After 6pm parking is free) when it's quietened down. With it being only 10 minutes walk away from Stockport train station (which in turn is around 10 minutes away from Piccadilly) it's not that difficult/time consuming to get to from the city centre. The bus routes are also quite good with the restaurant being 5 minutes walk from the central station. In fact I like the place so much I might register a yelp event for those interested in checking the place out with me when I return. Although there are some nice dishes for vegetarians the usual restricted choice prevails. However, as a meat eater. The choice is great :) The have an amazing selection of starters - and I can thoroughly recommend any of the kebabs or the lamb stuffed vine leaves. The mains are nicely presented and tasty with just the right amount of food. I like the fresh salad with a small portion of rice that tends to go along with whatever your choice of main might be. This time, it was the mixed grill - and it was very good. I am knocking off a single star, although it seems a bit mean, because the lamb chop in the grill was a little chewy. I should point out that the rest was very tender. Worth a visit.

Let's get the admission out of the way first: I'd never eaten a doner kebab before in my life…read more So it was with some trepidation, but mostly an extreme urge for meat, that I found myself in Turkish Delight with four mates, ordering what became the 'poshest' looking doner I've ever seen. (This review is of the restaurant, not the takeaway). We all shared Lux Mezes for starters, which were a selection of eight small dishes (the ninth was a lemon slice) - some were very good, the rest so-so. For me, they didn't compete with the likes of Alexandros Greek Restaurant's meze offering (http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/alexandros-greek-restaurant-manchester). The service was also very good, taking extra drink orders and bringing more pitta bread (FYI the Efes beer was lovely, not too 'gassy'). For mains, three of us opted for the Iskender Kebab which comprised plenty of meat rested on a large pitta bread and partially covered with a tomato sauce. The grilled fillet of lamb, chicken breast and minced lamb were all ok, but I just couldn't like the doner meat. Strangely I found myself wanting some salad with it but it came without, a veritable meat-mountain. So it was a satisfactory experience, but not amazing, and at £14.50 for a kebab, you'd definitely insist on it being amazing.

I suppose that's a reasonably apt name for it, as it is one of those rare takeaways that you could actually visit in the daylight rather than when you are so intoxicated that you cannot even see what you are eating. Unlike Alison, I have never been to the restaurant part of this establishment. Although I've heard very good things about it, it just seems a little bit weird eating in the backroom of a takeaway in a room you can't see from the outside. The lunchtime offers seem especially good at around £8.95 for 2 courses and coffee. However, the fact that the takeaway was born in the same year as me (1985) and the fact that a guy I know who used to work in the takeaway is actually Turkish and would bring home a kebab for his own dinner, shows that they're doing something right. The takeaway is busy 7 days a week at lunchtime and in the evenings. Being a veggie and having only had chips from this takeaway I feel that I'm missing out somewhat, as many will claim that Turkish Delight do the best kebabs *ever*.

For £11.95 I tucked into some amazing kofta, breads, dips, salad, wings - wow, so much great food just check out my snaps - plus there was lovely cake and pudding included to follow. The food was wonderful and tasty - really nice! To round off I bought an Arabic cardamom tea which was fantastic - really nice and complimented the meal well. It was nice to go somewhere not on my normal radar, I'll be back!

Nope its not a randomly named curry house, Beirut serves food deliciouso Lebanese-o! For those not in the know, Manchester's curry mile has seen a mini Middle eastern revolution of its own. The Mile of curry is now equipped with a plethora of Shisha bars as well as restaurants such as Beirut. In honestly of alls, my first impression of the place was not great. The capital could be described as chaotic from the kids running around whilst parents going to town on their meat feasts to the directionless type waiting staff, more laid back than the kobedas on show. First impressions however don't last and I'm here to announce that the food thankfully did make a lasting impression. I'd personally recommend the mixed grill, even if I struggled to get through half of it. Don't be put off by the cover, its the contents of the book that count. If Beirut was a book, I would highly recommend it, it was a great read.

I went in because I never been before. I ate there, and it was sensational. The funny thing is I was actually on my way to try Istanbul Grill in Urmston, but it wasn't meant to be was it? Turns out, my mate who I was with knows someone who works at Saray and suggested it, and so off we went. As soon as you step through the doors of the Turkish restaurant, you feel what you're supposed to feel in a Turkish restaurant. A feeling you're in Turkey!! Needless to say it was bloody freezing outside but a warmth greeted us when we walked in. The decor was magnificent (I could well have walked into a restaurant in Maramaris for all I knew) as was the beautiful music, softly complementing the colourful interior. The delicious aromas were flowing too. I was in a good place before ordering. Win! The food then proceeded to comprehensively uproot my middle stump sending me back to the pavilion, tail between legs. (Cricket reference, meaning it was aces) The Aubergine salad and hummous kavurma (lamb fillet) complemented each other perfectly and aroused my taste buds to levels rarely experienced in recent memory. The mixed grill which followed was also nothing short of exquisite. If ever I'm looking to impress someone who is both hungry and a carnivorous foodie, I've bookmarked this place. You should too.

Everyone seemed to enjoy what they'd ordered. I definitely had starter envy as I waited for my main course. I was sat next to houmous with pitta and cheese in filo parcels and I almost had to sit on my hands to stop myself 'borrowing' some. The not so good things - somebody's main course was forgotten about and they had to quickly start cooking it (there wasn't a massive delay though). Also everyone agreed the the rice portion could be more generous. Also the service really was slow, as Gayle has mentioned in her review. We had to ask to order 3 times and the same again for the bill. The restaurant was full though. I also liked the decor and felt like I could have been away on holiday. I would return though and probably get my neighbour's meal, a very generous mixed platter, see photos.

The decor is a bit lacklustre and the place was empty but we were more there for the food. We were unfortunately really disappointed. Everyone's meat dishes were really dry, fish platter that me and my friend shared tasted really weird (then we both had poorly tummys the next day!), imam baildi starter was super oily, bread was nowhere near as fresh and pillowy as Turkish bread I've had in other places like Olive & Thyme in Chorlton. Quite disappointing and rather expensive considering the quality... On the plus side, the wine was nice, the service was good and the Turkish delight they gave us with the bill was fabulous. Not enough to make us return I'm afraid. In my opinion Turkish is an amazing cuisine but quite simple and difficult to mess up if you're using good ingredients. Marmaris need to up the quality I'm afraid!

The aptly named establishment (Antalya is one of my fav holiday destinations) not only has a much better interior, staff and vibe but also serve some decent grub. A barbecue style grill has you in a foodie tizzie with the delicious aromas before you've even entered. The recent heatwave has meant the outside seating area has been a beehive of activity. The atmosphere is always relaxed and the shisha is always of the highest quality. Pomegranate and Guava are mixture of flavours I'd recommend. I'm slowly working my way through the food menu and tried the chicken skewers and wings thus far. Both were delicious with a healthy side of salad and amazing Turkish bread. Next on my list to try are the lamb livers. Slowly working my way through the best Shisha spots in Manchester. Might make a list... Watch this space.

I've only visited at 2am whilst on nights at work…read more The food itself is very nice and cooked to order but I did feel a little uncomfortable when I walked in to pay (you place an order at the counter but the go into the restaurant to pay)... It was full of people smoking shisha which put me off a little bit. Portions are massive for what you pay... Decent for a change from the usual along the curry mile late on.
