I do not recommend this 'hotel' to anyone! I have no idea how this place justifies itself as a hotel; it's quality ranks below a hostel.
Due to bad weather and ferry cancellations, my husband and I, along with another couple, were forced to stay at the Frigate a few nights ago for lack of rooms available elsewhere.
The carpets are filthy and everything is shabby. Mold in the shower, shared soap bars in the bathtub, the sink in one of the bathrooms didn't work. The shower cut-off after a few minutes (mid wash!), then came back on freezing cold a minute later. Our room was in the loft and we were damp and sweating all night, despite the cold temperature (space heater was broken), likely due to the crinkly 'water'proof pad under the bed sheet.
I'm BAFFLED over the review by David S. There are many B&B's in Tarbert, some just a few doors down, plus a couple even closer to the Islay ferry port. There's also Stonefield Castle, an upmarket hotel, just outside the village. There are also multiple restaurants to choose from, ranging from Indian to seafood.
Stay elsewhere! read more
