minutes ago on Google My daughter and I, stayed at the Islander April 30-May 4. This was the worst experience I've ever had with front desk customer service. Her name was Bessie. My daughter and I arrived 30 minutes before check in. I went in to introduce myself and ask to use the restroom, while we waited 30 min to check in. There was Bessie and a younger employee at the front desk. I introduced myself, only the younger woman spoke. Bessie took the lead of the conversation, I introduced myself and advised, we are waiting in the car for the next 30 minutes to check in. Bessie ask me for my room number, I gave her room 214 number and my first and last name .She looked at the computer briefly. And said she does Not have a reservation for me. I showed her reservation info, I was sent from Real Joy Vacation. Bessie said that I was still not in the system and proceeded to put some information in. I was very confused why Islander didn't have my information. So while Bessie was entering my information, her assistant( I guess) the younger lady had put my package information together ( which included, my parking pass, and wrist ban to get into the condo). Bessie immediately told the younger lady, No she's not checking in until 4pm, do Not give her anything! She can go back to sit in the car (by now we had about 16 minutes before check in. The young lady expression on her face showed such much embarrassment, the way I was being treated by Bessie. I know racism when I see it. I m 66 yrs old retiree,( I know what that looks like), whom travel 3 times a year. After using the restroom, I went back to my car, told my daughter how nasty and unprofessional Bessie was toward me. I then call Real Joy Vacation, to find out , why wasn't my reservation in the system and how rude Bessie was. I spoke with Lisa, and was told for my daughter and I to go back in, go to our Condo, I explained, that was I was Not going back in, because I didn't want any trouble with Bessie. So Lisa said she call the front desk. We grabbed our luggage went in to the front desk, Bessie was gone and the young lady and an another older woman was at the front. We were given our information and headed up to our condo. A day before departure, I came down to the front desk. Said good afternoon ladies, Bessie and another lady was at the front desk, they look at each other and look back at me and did not say a word. Shaking my head, ask if I could get directions on how to get to the beach, the other older woman came from behind the desk to show me how to get to the beach. I said thank you very much, I appreciate that, said have a Blessed Day ladies, they looked back at each other again, and didn't say a word. I was already apprehensive of staying here the first day after the most invited representation from Bessie. But I knew this was the worse customer service in 66 yrs I've been living. I saw many people who came up to the desk, while i was present, and Bessie and the other person greeted them and was very polite to them. No one except myself was treated like that. I was paid guess at Islander. And no one should ever be treated poorly, because the color of their skin. Would never stay here again. read more

We just returned from a 6 night stay at The Islander Resort (Unit 516) and had a wonderful trip! The resort had two nice size pools, two hot tubs, a huge grilling area, plenty of grassy green space, and beautiful landscaping. There was a giant Connect 4 game and shuffleboard to play as well. Although we didn't utilize it, the gym looked nice with lots of equipment. The public areas of the resort were very well maintained and clean. There were plenty of grocery carts and luggage carts to move things to your room - even during peak check in/check out times. The resort provided bear daily activities for kids to enjoy. There was a movie night, sand castle building, and arts and crafts. These didn't cost us a thing and were thoroughly enjoyed! The walk from our unit to the beach was easy and accessible for my mom prefers to walk up/down ramps rather than stairs. We loved the shoe storage at the beach ramp. We also enjoyed having two chairs and an umbrella set up, waiting on the beach for us each morning - at no extra cost! Unit 516 had plenty of sleeping and sitting space for up to 6 guests. The fold out couch was VERY comfortable as were the regular beds. There was plenty of hangers, closet, and drawer space as well as extra towels and linens. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of plates, glasses, cookware, and utensils. The unit also has in room laundry- so nice not to bring home tons of dirty clothes. The views from the balcony cannot be beat! You can watch the sunset, see the ocean, and see the bay. The best of all the things from one spot! We ate most of our meals while enjoying the views and listening to the sounds of the beach. Of the meals we enjoyed at restaurants - Brotula's was the best! The HarborWalk was really enjoyable and both are an easy drive from The Islander. Don't hesitate to book Unit 516 at The Islander! We can't wait to go back. read more

We were room 714 and I would highly recommend this room. Great views of the water. It is clean and comfortable. Loved having two bathrooms and a kitchen. Loved the balcony to view the water. I spent many mornings out on the balcony waiting for my family to wake up. We loved that this room included chair service on the beach. Get down to the beach around 7-7:30 am for a front row spot. On mornings that we didn't get down that early, we were perfectly okay in a second or third row chair with umbrella. The beach attendant is so nice and funny. We loved that there were two pools and hot tubs. I'm not sure if it is always offered, but for spring break there was a daily offering of a kid friendly activity. Sand castles, painting, movie night, etc. It was nice that they did linen/towel service twice a week. My only regret is not getting a room with laundry in it. I'm so happy that there was a communal laundry room, but people need to learn shared laundry room ettiequte. This is no fault to The Islander though. People-PLEASE learn basic laundry room ettiequte prior to arriving and using the laundry room. You cannot leave your clothes in a machine for 30+ minutes when it is done. People are waiting to use them. One person put their laundry in the washer, didn't have laundry soap, and left their clothes in the machine for over an hour while they went to get laundry pods. Anyway, this condo was in a great location. Central to literally everything. It felt safe and my family had a blast. read more

Islander condominium is a gated condo located right on the beach of lovely Destin Florida. Me and our family stayed here for 4 nights while on our trip to the Destin and fort Walton areas. We got a very late booking by chance while visiting one friends. We were unhappy with our other hotel and they actually had an opening thats as bigger, cheaper, closer to the beach and better amenities then the Marriott we were booked for. So we got our of our reservation and got in here. As mentioned we had friends staying here. Our room was a bit cheaper then there's even though the same size. I assume that is because they had newer upgrades in the room. There rooms had newer furniture, upgraded bathrooms and smart TVs where ours did not. We did get lucky and got a first floor room (104) to where our patio was a mere steps away from one of the tow pools and about 50' yards away from the access controlled beach access. The beach we were on was very clean and beautiful and not crowded (I assume the access control access helped that). The worker for hotel is at the bottom of the ramp and gives you two chairs and umbrellas to use for relaxing on the beach. So that was nice and cool. The condo itself has fun events for kids. Tow of them my kids took advantage of were fake tattoos by the pool and painting on the beach. They all had fun with that and loved it. Rooms were massive and very comfortable with large bedrooms, two bathrooms, huge kitchen and living room area. All she patios or balconies. It was nice with our patio that we could leave all our towels and shoes there and just hit the beach because we were so close to it from our rook. I'll trade that access in for smart TVs anytime. So that was a win for us. Overall we had a blast here and it was conveniently located to everything with tons of peace and quiet. Which is all you can ask for on a family beach vacation. I'm glad we lucked into a room opening as we tried when originally booking a few months out with no luck. So we got lucky and got to save almost 1k by getting out of our Marriott in fort walton and staying here. It made our vacation so much better being here versus there. I'm a big Loyal Mariott person but if I ever go back to Destin the islander will be the top place I'll try and book. read more

We stayed in Unit 317. The unit was perfect! Beautifully decorated, fully stocked kitchen, clean tile floors throughout, comfortable beds and amazing sunset views from the private balcony. The building and amenities were very well kept and clean. The beach was perfect and only a few steps away. The pools, hot tubs and grilling pavilion were just right for our family of 6. What a great week at Islander Condominium's! The location, is convenient and I had the most amazing oceanfront view. It was a 180* view of beach and the surf. Gorgeous! The complex was not crowded either in the pool or beach. Great amenities for tennis/pickleball, pool, hot tub... The condo (608) had every kitchen gadget imaginable and updated furnishings. We stayed at the islander unit 305 And it was amazing! Beautiful Balcony overlooking the pool and ocean, shuffleboard, Tennis, pickle ball and miles and miles of sand!! The unit is beautifully decorated and recently rehabbed. The area has everything you could want and more with amusement parks, water parks, a harbor village outdoor Malls and shopping galore. All within 5-10 min drive! Many places walkable as well! Will definitely come again to unit 305!!! read more

Room 501 is simply amazing! Great view, close to the stair well & the trash shoot it right outside the door. We had a really nice time here! Friendly people, great pools & hot tubs, close to the beach, plenty of parking, and close to town if you need to run to the store every day you can, trust me, I did... This place was very clean and nice. Extremely quiet. The only complaint I can say was we kept smelling marijuanna smells coming from the balconies around us. They have a no smoking policy but it's not enforced. I never saw security at all anywhere on the property. The pools both stayed packed so we didn't even get in them but that is to be expected during peak season. I really like the short hike to the beach and how they offer each room two chairs and a umbrella. The pavilion with bbq grills was Also another very nice relaxing amenity. All in all it's a pretty good place to stay for the price. read more

We know you only get to exchange towels on Tuesday or Thursday which is a pain but this time the floor was so dirty our feet and socks were black. The couch was a dingy gross mess. We stayed at the islander for the first time this previous October. It was beautifully furnished and the view was amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downfall about our condo was there was no washer/dryer. On our 2nd day there it we were told a hurricane was coming. We had not bought trip insurance and we were being mandatorily evacuated. The wonderful staff gave us our money back for the days we were unable to stay. It was very hard to swallow that our trip was being cut extremely short because of the dangerous weather, and I cried the whole 11 hour drive back home BUT had we been out all of the money we had spent on the condo, it would have been even more devastating to us. I am just so grateful to them for that. It made a huge impression on my husband and I and we plan on staying here again in the future. (Hopefully hurricane free ) read more

I would not recommend. I'm not sure if it was the room, but we stayed in room 105. It's old and not properly maintained. The furniture and decorations are nice, but when you take a look closer the room needed some major updates. There was cracking ceiling and walls. I reported it to the front desk staff and she seemed uninterested. Plus when booking there was no mention that this is a non smoking resort. You cannot smoke anywhere on the property including your balcony, you have to go to a remote smoking location. The pool heated which was nice. The beach and beach service was very nice. However, I looked at trash outside of my patio for 2 days. read more

Currently staying here now. Communication was poor over the phone-had to call back to back too many times to get anyone on the phone to answer questions prior to arrival. The office hours are until 11 and we got stuck in traffic on the way. We arrived at 10:50 and the lady working the front conveniently closed up as I came in the door. She came out and told me to just come back in the morning. I advised staff this morning at check in that the unit was not clean (fridge and floors) and no one seemed to care. Just told me where to find the broom. I will not be staying here again. read more

I am not sure this is true for all rooms, but if you book through RealJoy Vacations watch out! This management company is terrible and I would stay away from all of their properties. My wife booked a room at the Islander in Destin for my parents. When I brought their luggage upstairs I was hit with a wall of CIGARETTE SMOKE. No reasonable person could stand being in that condo for a night let alone paying for the privilege. I called to get the issue resolved and was never called back. I had to keep calling and then was told they were going to put some fresheners in the room to clean it. Frebreze can't work miracles, the condo needs professional cleaning stat. I ended up renting my parents a nice clean room elsewhere. The management company was completely uncooperative, unhelpful and unresponsive. If you have an issue they probably won't resolve it and you will be SOL. I am so glad this happened offseason. I guess they just assume they'll make all their money in the busy season when people don't have options. JUST CLEAN THE CONDO!!! read more

The past two summers we have rented #609. The condo is beautiful and just recently completed bathroom upgrades.. The view from the balcony is breath taking. Over looking the pool, tiki grill area, and the gulf. The staff in the office seems helpful yet not over friendly. The grounds are kept immaculately, pools are crystal clear, and breezeways are trash free. New linens are available on Mon,Wed, & Fri from 9 am - 3 pm which is convenient. The laundry mat is on the 2nd floor and it's $1.25 for wash and $1 to dry. I wished the condo had a stack w/d. This is my family's happy place and definitely will be back next summer and the next and the next. Lastly, the sand is white as white can be. So beautiful. read more

We are currently staying here while in Destin and the condos are not bad. Located right near the beach, it's easy to walk out to the beach and get in the ocean. Lots of sidewalk space outside the condos where you can walk, run, ride a bike, etc. It's close to a Winn-Dixie and you can stock up the kitchen in your condo if you don't want to eat out too often. Cons: no laundry in the units themselves, so you have to use the coin op laundry nearby, and the water pressure in the shower is really weak, so getting sand off can be a chore. Our unit did not have the cable hooked up properly and Cox couldn't come out to fix it, so no TV in the main room. read more

Get 704 if it's open. Great view of the ocean and nicely appointed. I'd stay here again but doubt I'll go back to Destin (too crowded). Long version.... Nice 2 bedroom 2 bath unit with a great view. Close to the beach. Their portion of the beach is tiny but you can always walk down a ways and get some less crowded beach. Lots of bleach used on linens and general cleaning which drove SWMBO nuts the first night but it dissipated quickly. Living area furnishings were in good shape and looked nice. The kitchen is stocked nicely with cooking/dining implements. The bed in the master was fine. The pullout sofa had a nice thick mattress. Cons: elevator and walkway are outdoors so you get the full heat/humidity experience. read more

Stayed in unit #612 for a long weekend. Check-in was swift and the front desk attendant knew my name before I even said hello. The unit has unabridged views of the bay to the west. It was updated with plank flooring, neutral colors and shore decor. The kitchen was nicely stocked with all of the essentials. Beach was a short stroll and there were two (2) pools/spas with pristine landscaping. Although I didn't drive, there was ample parking in the gated lot. Short commute to the local attractions, restaurants, pubs and town center. read more

Wish I would have chosen a different place to stay. Customer service extremely poor. They even yelled at my child trying to exchange linens because she did not know the dimensions. Room was dirty, mildew around the vents, they say that only gets cleaned once per year during the offseason. Looks to me they must have skipped the last couple of years. Then there are the linens and sheets....blood stains AND urine stains!!!! Yuck. NEVER staying here again and do not recommend any one else do so either. The Manager offered a $50 coupon for a local restaurant. Not cool. Guess the staff is really following the direction given by management. Find somewhere else to stay!!! read more
