The W.W. Knight Nature Preserve is a great example of what the Wood County Park District has to…read moreoffer. Located in Perrysburg, this 44-acre preserve features a mix of environments, with woods, prairies, a large pond, and the Nature Center, a modern mixed-use building. Three different trails are available. The short one circles the fishing pond, with plenty of benches for sitting and relaxing. The medium trail goes through the prairie, around the parking lots, and over the southern pedestrian bridge crossing the pond. The longer trail goes through the Wet Woods, often on boardwalk, giving you a good sense for what the Great Black Swamp was like back in the day. In total, the trails are just over 1.5 miles in length. The Nature Playscape was located near the start of the Wet Woods Trail, and gave my daughters a great place to explore nature and play in the woods without me having to worry about them getting lost. Parking was easy at the preserve, with a large paved lot on the southern end of the preserve. The restrooms were clean and modern, located inside the Nature Center.

It is an interesting (in a good way) venue for a concert - it's pretty large and there are different levels on which to sit (if you bring chairs or blankets). The stage was set up by the river and there was a large screen on a building at street level so everyone could enjoy the show if you didn't have a prize spot. We actually planted our chairs close to the stage, but were not able to see the acts well. The video screen was in perfect view though. The street level part of the park has extra seating and many people put their chairs and blankets down on the grass there. They weren't close to the stage, but again, the screen provided a great view of the show. There were some minor annoyances that I don't think were the venue's responsibilites (lack of porta potties and too few & underequipped food trucks). The event seemed well-organized at the gates and with beer & alcohol sales. Security was walking around assisting with seating (those who put chairs in walkways were politely told why they couldn't sit there). I would return for a concert. It was a fun time, being a beautiful night in downtown Toledo, with boats on the river.

Poop bag dispensaries in trash cans are spaced all around as well as benches to sit on. The entryway is a nice concrete double-gated entry that has exits to both the big and small dog park. You can park right next to the dog park. And you can easily walk around the interior of the fence line although it is quite a distance

There are many grills set out across the park for public use as well as a huge shelter house and building for rent for private parties. Facing the river there are several areas with bench seating. The park is home to many a fat squirrel that you can hand feed peanuts. In the Summer they have a free concert series with different bands and occasionally you may find a pancake breakfast. Right on the river is this large riverfront playground. I love going to The Market for a bite to eat at The Garden and walking the paths. I have been to so many events here and they are always so perfect and well done. There is so much space and it's all very well maintained. A splash pad, ice skating and rollerblading ribbon, super cool playgrounds, concert area and so much more! I have yet to do the ribbon as I'm afraid some kid is going to run me over (lol) otherwise I always look forward to all of the happenings this park has to offer.

They have an awesome Bee House with a see-through live hive. They have bee costumes and kid-sized honey combs. They have a log cabin furnished with real pioneer artifacts. They have a fossil dig area with shale from a nearby quarry full of interesting fossils that the kids can dig up. When it is in season, you can pick and eat raspberries. Also, they have a wonderful apple orchard where you can sample a variety of animals. They have wild animal and bird blind where you can watch native birds. The free library exchange is full of resources and interesting books. They have wonderful horticulture program with a geodesic dome with a koi pond and exotic plants. If you are interested in a community garden, you might want to sign up for a plot. They even have warm farms to promote organic gardening. Early summer, their strawberry plants let you sample their lovely fruit. They have gorgeous meeting rooms that you can rent for a reasonable price. It is a perfect place for a wedding. My favorite feature is their pottery workshop. I kept my sanity by participating. Classes are super affordable. Huh??? There was a metal box in a breezeway that said donations. Ok so I placed books underneath so someone with some ambition could sort in the morning. Nope, guy comes out and says I am littering.
