The best time to come is the first two weeks of May which happens to coincide with the Biggest Week in American Birding. Your best bet to observe is the Magee Marsh boardwalk. Although all of the trails offer the chance to see the birds, it is the Magee Marsh Bird Trail, or Boardwalk, that is the most popular. The Boardwalk takes you through a seven acre wood lot and when conditions are right it can literally be "raining warblers"! Parking is abundant next to the boardwalk with restrooms. You should pack a lunch and drinks as the closest place to purchase food and drinks is located a few miles down the road. However, during the first couple weeks the Black Swamp Bird Observatory (near the entrance of Crane Creek) will sometimes have food and beverages available for purchase.

Toledo has a multitude of interesting trails for biking, walking, blading, running, etc…read more Although, albeit to a lesser extent, the Parks University Trail does the same thing, the CCT is more than just a nature trail...it traverses several different environment types. There are sections that are wooded, and there are sections that are abutting people's backyards. Certain sections go along, or crossover, some of Toledo's major thoroughfares. Some of the more interesting areas pass through some of the de-industrialized parts of town. Several major parks, such as Ottawa Park, are abutted and/or traversed. The campuses for both MCO (uh, UTMC) and UT (main campus and Scott Park) are included. The southernmost terminus is at the Maumee River. It's at the site of an old railway bridge that has since been demolished. Certain parts of the bridge, such as the turntable gears, are on display at this end of the trail. The northern terminus is near Bowman Park in West/North Toledo. If you're into casual biking/hiking, or you're just interested in taking a leisurely stroll, you'll find that this trail provides an awesome addition to Toledo's repertoire of outdoor activities. 5 stars!

We drove up for the Martina McBride show Friday night and were able to park for $5 a few blocks…read moreaway. It is an interesting (in a good way) venue for a concert - it's pretty large and there are different levels on which to sit (if you bring chairs or blankets). The stage was set up by the river and there was a large screen on a building at street level so everyone could enjoy the show if you didn't have a prize spot. We actually planted our chairs close to the stage, but were not able to see the acts well. The video screen was in perfect view though. The street level part of the park has extra seating and many people put their chairs and blankets down on the grass there. They weren't close to the stage, but again, the screen provided a great view of the show. There were some minor annoyances that I don't think were the venue's responsibilites (lack of porta potties and too few & underequipped food trucks). The event seemed well-organized at the gates and with beer & alcohol sales. Security was walking around assisting with seating (those who put chairs in walkways were politely told why they couldn't sit there). I would return for a concert. It was a fun time, being a beautiful night in downtown Toledo, with boats on the river.

I've submitted a location change request, but be aware that if you go to the Google maps location (as of 17 September 2020), you'll be beside the park rather than at the parking entrance. This is a beautiful farm park we happened upon while driving through Ohio on I-80. We highly recommend a stop and walk. There's Hügelkultur gardening! Nigerian goats! Beautiful trails! A stream! There are even bees! The bees are kept in a delightfully colorful apiary. So cute. I posted a photo. The bees were happily buzzing away on the chilly Fall day at happened in. We also took a trail to walk to the creek bank. It's a small, easy stream. The view of it from the balcony near the restrooms was relaxing and peaceful. As a bonus, if you're traveling through on the Interstate, it's a short detour and the bathrooms are impeccably clean. The nature center wasn't open (not sure why), but we didn't care. It was such a delight to find such a beautifully kept park that we didn't need to go inside a building.

This is a 13 mile trail from Bowling Green to North Baltimore, commonly used by walkers/runners,…read morebikers, and skaters. There are multiple starting spots, many of which have free parking specifically for people using the trail. There are a few places you have to cross the road, but the traffic is pretty light in those areas. Some areas are shaded by trees while others lack that protection, so it can get pretty hot here. However, there are drinking fountains (including one for dogs!) and a porta-potty at some spots along the way. There are also plenty of benches if you ever need a break. The path itself is nice and even. The views aren't amazing, but they aren't bad by any means. The people all seem very friendly, and there are signs that tell people to always walk/run/bike/skate to the right except when passing, and everyone seems to follow this rule well. I see people of all ages come here, and it's a nice place to clear your head.

I visited with a friend on a very hot Monday…read moreafternoon, found a parking spot ($2 per hour), grabbed some chairs and we got our feet into the lake to cool off. The beach sits in a nice curved area at the western end of Lake Erie, and it is surrounded by small homes and wooded views in the distance. The large swimming area is marked off and has a gentle slope for wading in. The lighthouse is right on the shore and has restrooms and an outside shower. The pier is actually a concrete walkway with a crescent shape that is pleasant to explore. The only negative was the smelly trash cans near the restrooms...dead fish smell in that area only.
