This thrift store looks different from the outside versus others I've been to. It almost looks like a lodge to me, and there's this really dated wagon sitting out front... I couldn't help but wonder if it was donated? Did they find it somewhere? Was it already here when they got the place? Hmm... Well, as I pondered this question I went on inside to look around. There's a lot of stuff, but also a lot of fluff. I can seriously never find anything good here when I drop by and this visit maintained the status quo. It's a shame because there are a lot of sections to look through and they were having a huge sale on multiple sticker colors. This of course is a personal taste issue, but it's a bit far off the beaten path from me so I can't justify coming out here unless I'm already in the area. I also don't like how much higher priced some items are here, like I get that they are "nicer" items but the whole point of thrifting is to buy secondhand items at a reduced price, catered to those making a lesser income. This place has lost sight of the concept with multiple premium tags spotted at $100+ pricing out some potential customers out the gate. The workers are great, always willing to help when asked and the sale days are pretty good here though. Overall an alright thrift store, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this one though. But if you're in the area, why not? Listen up, people - I always shop this store in Centereach for months. On Thursdays, they give seniors a 30% discount with photo ID. On 10/19, I purchased a few items for $26.03. I was called to a newly opened cashier, and I told the cashier that I would like the senior discount on my order. I showed him my license at that time. After finishing my order and paying with my credit card, the receipt did not reflect the 30% discount. The cashier claimed I never stated I wanted the discount. I said, "Then why did I have my license in my hand?" Had the manager called, and he wanted me to go buy another item. I said I had looked around the store, and there was nothing else I required. I stated to him, "Just give me credit on my card." He did just that, and I had looked online the next morning to see my purchase and the refund below pending. After the pending period expired, all that remained was the initial charge, and the refund was not there because the store denied payment.Very deceitful practice. The next day, I contacted my credit card company and explained the situation. I took a picture of the refund receipt and had a case opened against Island Thrift. Had the credit card disputes email address and sent them the refund receipt picture and explained what happened. The next day the refund amount was already posted to my account. Was in there yesterday quick looking for something and as I'm in one row looking only needed to look in one row this worker keeps cornering me , so I feel it's odd and just stop looking and casually see what exactly she was doing so so she's talking to another co worker across and she doesn't give a shit about the customer next to her realize she's a total inconvenience to me by keep looking in the section I was going through without having any sort of manners or I'm sorry I'll move nothing.... I don't know if I'd recommend clothes shopping here because it does feel kind of expensive for a thrift store, but they have smaller furniture sometimes for pretty cheap (bedside table for $20, small desk for $40 that kind of thing) and again good decor depending on what you're into. We drove 25 minutes to get here and they locked the doors at 6:30 on a Sunday instead of the posted hour that said 7. Chaotic and Overpriced! I came here in search of a holiday sweater or two. First of all, the store is somewhat disorganized, which doesn't usually bother me, but multiple areas are just wrongly marked (ie: it said mens clothing and there were girls clothing). Other household items are just on top of racks. It can be difficult to see what size range items are in and I venture to say they over divide their clothes into categories. Do you really need a section for girls short sleeve shorts, long sleeve shorts, fleece zip ups, hoodies, athletic long sleeves and short sleeves, or the interesting "jogging" vs "athletic jogging"? Secondly and most importantly, this place is incredibly overpriced! I understand a lot of thrift stores mark up these days but Island Thrift should be ashamed. I saw warn out Walmart children's items for $8.99. It was difficult to find a single item under $5.99. On their 50% off tag days some items become worth their normal price (ie: that 8.99 items now is 4.49 but the item is definitely not worth 4.99). Now if that 4.49 item was 50% off it might be worth it. Their furniture selection was okay, but the pricing was confusing as they have multiple signs and write on the items. I honestly think the most affordable items I found were some toys.Their vinyls are a fine price but their books are overpriced - primarily children's books. A kid's beginning chapter book being 2.99 is insane. Even a store like Savers is less than 2.00. Overall Island Thrift is an incredible disappointment. I feel as if they are truly scamming individuals, as many of the items can be brought for cheaper in the stores (I saw the same shirt at Target a week ago at the same price point). You might be able to get some unique/vintage finds as they are a large store, but even then a lot of the items were poor quality for the price. They are not a place to go for standard shopping. What would cost me 50 dollars at Walmart would cost me 48 dollars at Island Thrift so I'd rather buy new. I'll happily stick to Savers, smaller thrift stores, antique shops and clearance. read more

Ive been going to IT for years. First they have a variety of things , from frames, pictures, furniture, lamps, electronics, bedding, , but mostly loads of clothes. I adore their Tuesday sale, where clothes are 50% off. Loads of higher end desirable clothes. You may find the tag intact. Staff work hard picking up after customers that wreck the place (rude) . They color coordinate which is nice , makes shopping easier . Also clean, For those of us that have walked into thrift stores that carry an odor ugh, not here. People shopping here, it really warms my heart. Its the community shopping for clothing, furniture and Christmas presents for their kids. I'm here with my youngest son, we're on a man hunt for old vinyl records. He's surprised me with a few of his finds, old beatle albums, comedy albums and of course early rap albums. When he looks, I look as well. And in my findings at Island thrift I've found Bergdorf Goodman plates, Currier and Ives platters as well as unique glass vases. I'm not going to argue with a $3 price tag. Just reading the reviews and how much people are getting pissed over prices. Here's something to consider.I know its a for profit thrift store. There are people in neighboring towns that have needs this holiday season. Before you just "throw away" something, consider giving it away to Island thrift to resell to the community. Went here the other day for the first time and will not be returning. Place was what you'd expect for a thrift store, all employees looked pretty young. Everything is overpriced, you might as well just buy new clothes with the money you thought you'd save on shopping second hand. When I went to checkout the cashier was nasty to begin with he said next in line so I went to him and then he pointed to other people and said no I was talking to them. Kinda shocked I said oh im sorry do you want me to go back to the other line he said no. Ok. So he starts ringing me up and an item that was on the rack didn't have a tag on it but I didn't mind I was willing to pay anything I just really wanted this item. He puts it aside and then rings up my entire cart full of items. AFTER he rang up everything else he asked if I still wanted the item and I said yes. Then obviously annoyed he called over the loud speaker to come over and help. We waited while the guy just stood there until another guy came over and said he doesn't know the price and walks away leaving us standing there. I say so I can't purchase the item? He says no. Price tags are written in crayon and don't make sense, why can't you just make up a price I mean it is a thrift store and I said am willing to pay for the item whats the problem?Disappointing and unhelpful staff. When I shopped Selden thrift they closed and moved up Middle County Road. No difference...still awesome store. I hunt for simple, honest clothes and thats what I find. Nice big parking lot in an old car dealership property...double...naw, triple the space of the old store. I scored six handtools ranging from wire strippers to metal hand pruners to mini wire cutters..less than 10 bucks...got them in two bags marked 4.99 apiece. Clothes-wise I rallied for 3 pairs of hibiscus themed shorts and two shirts for 12 bucks...all in about a half hour. They still have the color coded price tags/day sale but I find the prices not that bad....agreed they jack up the price of furniture pieces as well as oversized lamps but thats not why I hunt thrift stores....its all about the "find" Staff attitudes I dont really worry about....variety of items and finding my size 36 are what keep my coming back. Ahhh. Have you ever walked into a store and less than 30 seconds later, felt the vibe that you should turn around and walk right out? Well I ignored that feeling and proceeded to look for some sneakers for a potential halloween costume. I was looking for an old school style kind of sneaker and when I found the sneaker section, I was a little taken back by both the prices and the condition. I immediately had Al Bundy's voice in my head saying "what do you expect dummy" but I guess I just assumed the prices should match the quality. I mean, $80+ for Jordan's that are scuffed, creased, and tired looking. I'd understand if they were in actually decent condition as some Jordan's, even when in meh shape, can still fetch a really good price tag. As I was leaving, I said "Thanks.
