This thrift store looks different from the outside versus others I've been to. It almost looks like a lodge to me, and there's this really dated wagon sitting out front... I couldn't help but wonder if it was donated? Did they find it somewhere? Was it already here when they got the place? Hmm... Well, as I pondered this question I went on inside to look around. There's a lot of stuff, but also a lot of fluff. I can seriously never find anything good here when I drop by and this visit maintained the status quo. It's a shame because there are a lot of sections to look through and they were having a huge sale on multiple sticker colors. This of course is a personal taste issue, but it's a bit far off the beaten path from me so I can't justify coming out here unless I'm already in the area. I also don't like how much higher priced some items are here, like I get that they are "nicer" items but the whole point of thrifting is to buy secondhand items at a reduced price, catered to those making a lesser income. This place has lost sight of the concept with multiple premium tags spotted at $100+ pricing out some potential customers out the gate. The workers are great, always willing to help when asked and the sale days are pretty good here though. Overall an alright thrift store, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this one though. But if you're in the area, why not? I have also determined that the wagon must have been there already, cause like who would donate that? Andrew Jackson? read more

The prices are so expensive that you are better off buying new. There is a lot of stuff but only because it's too expensive and people don't want to buy it. Workers were rude and the building was run down read more

The prices get higher every time I go there. $16.99 for used gym shorts? Marshalls is cheaper than this place. Descent clothing for $38 to $98!!! I think they need to shut this down. Selling people's garbage for more than retail. Do not go there read more

thsee people are scumbags of the highest order! the prices in here are outrageous! they sell fake designer bags with high price tags, they say they do not authenticate. Used to be a good store Now its over priced. forget the stupid color system just makes going there a waste of time . you can get easily ripped off if you buy an item on a day the color isn't applied . up to 70% and having to wait for that color is also a waste of time going back with today's fuel prices? is it really a savings going there 2x ? this place is purposed to be a veterans supported. less then half of its proceeds go to veterans according to the V.A . everything there is a donation ? the mark up on most items are more then walmart . there system is wrong and very crooked . sad there still open taking advantage of public . read more

Listen up, people - I always shop this store in Centereach for months. On Thursdays, they give seniors a 30% discount with photo ID. On 10/19, I purchased a few items for $26.03. I was called to a newly opened cashier, and I told the cashier that I would like the senior discount on my order. I showed him my license at that time. After finishing my order and paying with my credit card, the receipt did not reflect the 30% discount. The cashier claimed I never stated I wanted the discount. I said, "Then why did I have my license in my hand?" Had the manager called, and he wanted me to go buy another item. I said I had looked around the store, and there was nothing else I required. I stated to him, "Just give me credit on my card." He did just that, and I had looked online the next morning to see my purchase and the refund below pending. After the pending period expired, all that remained was the initial charge, and the refund was not there because the store denied payment.Very deceitful practice. The next day, I contacted my credit card company and explained the situation. I took a picture of the refund receipt and had a case opened against Island Thrift. Had the credit card disputes email address and sent them the refund receipt picture and explained what happened. The next day the refund amount was already posted to my account. This is the lowest of the low practices a store can do. If I could leave ZERO STARS I WOULD . read more

Idk why this place got bad reviews. Every time I've shopped here I walk out with a bag full of clothes and toys for my kids. The place is a thrift store. It's going to look run down. Don't expect it to look pristine though. It's not dirty inside though. I wash the clothes after I buy them and they look brand new. I'll keep shopping here for sure! read more

Decided to go with a friend here. Very nice stuff for a thrift store. It's like going to a big garage sale. They have everything clothes, furniture, suitcases, TVs. Each day based on the colors it's 50% off. To my surprise it was packed for a Wednesday night. read more

Was in there yesterday quick looking for something and as I'm in one row looking only needed to look in one row this worker keeps cornering me , so I feel it's odd and just stop looking and casually see what exactly she was doing so so she's talking to another co worker across and she doesn't give a shit about the customer next to her realize she's a total inconvenience to me by keep looking in the section I was going through without having any sort of manners or I'm sorry I'll move nothing.... This new generation is fucked it gets better ... she moves my cart now without asking me to move it so I said excuse me are you serious so she goes what with a nasty attitude and I said besides the fact I am the customer and you are not the shopper you should move over for patrons and realize they are the ones shopping and you are working , I said to her you knocked into me multiple times to the point where when you moved my cart without asking me to move it and she goes I don't care so now I'm like ok where's your manager maybe they will... I ask her name; she won't give it to me so I say it's ok I know what you look like (didn't let her know but it's pretty obvious to point out the one person who looks like they haven't washed their hair for 2 months) I am completely appalled how this young employee has not been fired already they must really be desperate for workers to keep that type of attitude in their store. read more

Prices have gotten absolutely insane and there's usually never anything good inside. Went on Tuesday March 26, 2024 and asked the worker to hold something behind the counter for me so I can shop around. Come back 10 minutes later to find they sold it to someone else. Total bs. I wouldn't be surprised if the worker kept it for himself. I wish I started screaming. Service is consistently awful at every location and prices have gotten insane. They once wanted 80 bucks for a broken iPhone 6. In 2023! read more

Do not shop here. High way robbery...selling cheap used clothes for higher price than brand new! My girlfriend found a shein dress at this location(shein is a low quality fast fashion website) listed for 8.99 with stains on it, while in store I found the dress on the website listed cheaper than at this thrift. When I brought it up to the manager, showed her the proof and if she could either price match or give me a discount and she said no we can't touch the price. Do better island thrift, people come here for affordable clothes not to be robbed read more

This is my favorite thrift store for nicknacks. I don't know if I'd recommend clothes shopping here because it does feel kind of expensive for a thrift store, but they have smaller furniture sometimes for pretty cheap (bedside table for $20, small desk for $40 that kind of thing) and again good decor depending on what you're into. I feel like someone can always find something if you're looking for something cool to come home with. read more

Way overpriced, must change tags on the daily because you can never find items at 50% off! They are in no way helping the needy.

This place is the very same as vets of America I saw three of vets trucks parked in the back here I thought I was doing something for our veterans for free to help them I saw a few of my Jeans on the racks they are very unique clothing and size I will never participate in this place again by the way the one in Medford tried to screw me out of my Senior Discount saying I could only apply it to one item both places their prices are sky high you can find them cheaper at a regular store both places have the veterans trucks parked in the back to me this is fraud about how they represent themselves to the public STAY AWAY maybe lSavers is better yelp google should have a negative star button read more

We drove 25 minutes to get here and they locked the doors at 6:30 on a Sunday instead of the posted hour that said 7. Workers saw us leave the car with our baby carriage and locked the door as we were approaching. Even put a shopping cart in front of the interior entrance door. Absolutely ridiculous. If you want to close early, have the hours posted so we don't waste time and gas. If I could give 0 stars for the customer service alone I would. read more

Overpriced and disappointing. I've gone here a couple times giving it chance after chance. Everything is so over priced. I've been to many thrift shops and haven't seen anything like this. Chaotic and Overpriced! I came here in search of a holiday sweater or two. First of all, the store is somewhat disorganized, which doesn't usually bother me, but multiple areas are just wrongly marked (ie: it said mens clothing and there were girls clothing). Other household items are just on top of racks. It can be difficult to see what size range items are in and I venture to say they over divide their clothes into categories. Do you really need a section for girls short sleeve shorts, long sleeve shorts, fleece zip ups, hoodies, athletic long sleeves and short sleeves, or the interesting "jogging" vs "athletic jogging"? Secondly and most importantly, this place is incredibly overpriced! I understand a lot of thrift stores mark up these days but Island Thrift should be ashamed. I saw warn out Walmart children's items for $8.99. It was difficult to find a single item under $5.99. On their 50% off tag days some items become worth their normal price (ie: that 8.99 items now is 4.49 but the item is definitely not worth 4.99). Now if that 4.49 item was 50% off it might be worth it. Their furniture selection was okay, but the pricing was confusing as they have multiple signs and write on the items. I honestly think the most affordable items I found were some toys.Their vinyls are a fine price but their books are overpriced - primarily children's books. A kid's beginning chapter book being 2.99 is insane. Even a store like Savers is less than 2.00. Overall Island Thrift is an incredible disappointment. I feel as if they are truly scamming individuals, as many of the items can be brought for cheaper in the stores (I saw the same shirt at Target a week ago at the same price point). You might be able to get some unique/vintage finds as they are a large store, but even then a lot of the items were poor quality for the price. They are not a place to go for standard shopping. What would cost me 50 dollars at Walmart would cost me 48 dollars at Island Thrift so I'd rather buy new. I'll happily stick to Savers, smaller thrift stores, antique shops and clearance. read more

Don't shop at this filthy, overpriced dump of a store. Was there over last weekend and as I was leaving I was cornered in the foyer by the overrated security holding her pen and her cohort. trying to "distract" me as I was surrounded. They ordered me to open my pocketbook like I had stolen something. The "ladies of Island Thrift" didn t even apologize to me when they saw I had nothing of theirs in my bag. They just walked away as I incredulously asked them if they were accusing me of stealing. Great job, ladies! I will never go there again to be embarassed by overpaid security stooges who think they're SCPD. Oh and you can shove your pen you know where. read more

This place is awesome. They have great sales and their prices are reasonable for being a thrift store (given that nowadays so many of them mark things up beyond what's necessarily their worth). Ive been going to IT for years. First they have a variety of things , from frames, pictures, furniture, lamps, electronics, bedding, , but mostly loads of clothes. I adore their Tuesday sale, where clothes are 50% off. Loads of higher end desirable clothes. You may find the tag intact. Staff work hard picking up after customers that wreck the place (rude) . They color coordinate which is nice , makes shopping easier . Also clean, For those of us that have walked into thrift stores that carry an odor ugh, not here. One of my favorite thrifts and Ive been to loads in all the borough's. Ive got a pet peeve w/ stores many in Manhattan that call themselves "Thrift" with outrageous prices , kinda lose the thrift store purpose. So dig around , go often as inventory is constantly changing !!! read more

People shopping here, it really warms my heart. Its the community shopping for clothing, furniture and Christmas presents for their kids. I'm here with my youngest son, we're on a man hunt for old vinyl records. He's surprised me with a few of his finds, old beatle albums, comedy albums and of course early rap albums. When he looks, I look as well. And in my findings at Island thrift I've found Bergdorf Goodman plates, Currier and Ives platters as well as unique glass vases. I'm not going to argue with a $3 price tag. Just reading the reviews and how much people are getting pissed over prices. Here's something to consider.I know its a for profit thrift store. There are people in neighboring towns that have needs this holiday season. Before you just "throw away" something, consider giving it away to Island thrift to resell to the community. I had a few older bowls and platters, I just gave them to Island Thrift. Let them sell the items for a few dollars so our neighbors in need can use them for special occasions. read more

Consistently terrible customer service and insanely inflated prices. I've been coming to this company's thrift store for the past 10 years and today was my last day ever shopping here. They hire extremely nasty people. When you ask for a price the answer is always no. It's like they don't want your money. The prices are CRAZY inflated. $80 for a pair of ripped and stained UGGS? Lol okay no thank you. The one thing I hate the most about this thrift store and the main reason I have solemnly shopped here in the past is the fact they are a for-profit thrift store. The actual term of a thrift store includes it to be not for profit. I will stick to my local home grown thrifting spots from here on out! read more

Way too expensive to be a thrift store. Everything in here is priced on hopes and dreams or eBay going prices.

When I shopped Selden thrift they closed and moved up Middle County Road. No difference...still awesome store. I hunt for simple, honest clothes and thats what I find. Nice big parking lot in an old car dealership property...double...naw, triple the space of the old store. I scored six handtools ranging from wire strippers to metal hand pruners to mini wire cutters..less than 10 bucks...got them in two bags marked 4.99 apiece. Clothes-wise I rallied for 3 pairs of hibiscus themed shorts and two shirts for 12 bucks...all in about a half hour. They still have the color coded price tags/day sale but I find the prices not that bad....agreed they jack up the price of furniture pieces as well as oversized lamps but thats not why I hunt thrift stores....its all about the "find" Staff attitudes I dont really worry about....variety of items and finding my size 36 are what keep my coming back. Ahhh. Have you ever walked into a store and less than 30 seconds later, felt the vibe that you should turn around and walk right out? Well I ignored that feeling and proceeded to look for some sneakers for a potential halloween costume. I was looking for an old school style kind of sneaker and when I found the sneaker section, I was a little taken back by both the prices and the condition. I immediately had Al Bundy's voice in my head saying "what do you expect dummy" but I guess I just assumed the prices should match the quality. I mean, $80+ for Jordan's that are scuffed, creased, and tired looking. I'd understand if they were in actually decent condition as some Jordan's, even when in meh shape, can still fetch a really good price tag. As I was leaving, I said "Thanks. Have a good one!" in a friendly tone, only to be met with a side eye stare. I felt bad walking in and out like that but I at least made attempt to buy something. read more

first, let me warn all customers about this dirty place filled with covid virus and germs...... they do not wash the donated clothes, shoes or jewelry. they do not spray with lysol or any disinfectant. The shoes carry fungus and other bacteria growth. i bought a pair when i was down and out and got a fungus on my toe, spent 3 yrs trying to cure. The jewelry has bacteria and dirty sweat cells from people not washing. The prices are way to high for used items, while you can get better deals on new clothing during sales. Please be aware of this before shopping here. I would rather support a good business here on long island then shop at this dirty, DISGUSTING STORE, filled with germs that is continuing to destroy humanity. i am writing this because my sister died from covid-19 while shopping here and they have done nothing to stop the spread of germs. read more
