El Maguey Latino Market is a new international grocery store that just opened not to long ago in…read moreGambrills, Md. The store itself isn't very large, but they really make the most with the space they were given, while still managing to not feel cramped. The have a small produce section full of really fresh items. The refrigerated/freezer section spans the right side of the store, and is filled with all kinds of goodies. They have a check cashing booth to the rear left of the store, not far from their meat section, where they have a bunch of different cuts on display. I found many items that my family uses regularly, and it's awesome to now have something in the area, in stead of having to run out to Laurel or New Carrolton to make special purchases. I really hope that people take the time to check this place out. This staff is friendly, and helpful. This market was much needed in this area. I will be patient as they work out any kinks, and hope to see them flourish in the years to come. Welcome to the neighborhood!

(If others exist, they're well-kept secrets). The space inside is very bright! A lot of these very small markets can feel cramped and dim, but not so here. Due to the footprint of the store, it's not very large inside, and the aisles (if you can call them that) are small and cramped. But, they make good use of the space all the same, and with super-high ceilings, it FEELS a lot bigger inside than it probably is. They do have a fresh foods counter in the back, and they also offer fresh and frozen produce up front. I got a great haul, enough to make a fantastic salsa verde with some fresh tomatillos, jalepenos, lime, and cilantro. Yum! It went well with the frozen tostones! I'd like for this place to be a lot bigger than it is, but I can't complain. It's a really nice shop with helpful staff and a good selection of products considering the space available. It's well worth popping your head in and taking a look around!

I have been able to find things you can only get at Caribbean stores like dried Hibiscus flower, good quality and great price I might add of cinnamon, cloves, and a lot of spices. The service has been 10/10 the three times I have been. The Salvadorian wife and Indian husband make a super friendly and helpful duo. My sister and I came in sick today and were greated and helped with recommendations of their OTC selection.

Where else can you get delicious frozen dosa right next to the frozen tostones, fresh sausages and cheeses from both sides of the world and farm-fresh okra, kerala and two kinds of exotic eggplants in the same bin as garden-variety tomatos, bananas and onions? This bounty is available at very fair prices from the extremely gracious and helpful proprietors themselves. The store is strategically-located on Defense Highway, just up from 301, next to a great Vietnamese restaurant and slightly behind the ever-reliable summer favorite, Rita's. Definitely worth a stop. They have milk and a wide assortment of drinks and desserts , so it'd be hard to leave there empty-handed. Buen Provecho y Que Viva La India!

I was impressed at first given the variety of international foods and the low prices of the produce, but the quality is very hit and miss and if you miss you can get seriously ill. I saw a beet completely rotting sitting in the produce aisle, shrimp being sold that was semi defrosted with no cover on the coolers, and popsicles that were melted, when I got my mangoes home one was already rotted and the others rotted in a few days. All of these are opportunities to spread bacteria, mold and other contaminants that will send you right to the doctor. Please be safe, it's serious f**ked up they are selling these items to immigrant communities, the prices aren't rock bottom, and some shopping here may not easily be able to access medical care if needed (I'm sure many can, but statistically immigrant communities struggle to gain equitable access to healthcare on par with other Americans).

I could walk through this store for hours, there is so much to see here…read more To start with Ebisu Mini Japan is not my scene. I know next to nothing about what I am seeing in here. The parking lot is small and always crowded. It seems when I am walking by there is always an adventure happening in it. I'd suggest forgoing it and just finding street parking or using one of the nearby parking garages. The store has multiple levels inside of it. The first level is toys at the front, food to the back right and health, beauty, toiletries and dishes to the back left. The toy selection is vast with lots of cute Japanese characters. Also extensive is the food. You will traditional American brands (Kit Kat for example) in flavors that aren't typically sold in regular American stores. My only qualm is I wish I could easily discern what is vegan. I have not tried some things I'd be interested in purchasing because of that. The second level is beauty supplies. My wife has been purchasing beauty supplies from Japan for a while and was excited to know she could purchase some of them locally now. The third layer is stationary items and school supplies. There are a lot of cute notebooks, pencils, pens and erasers amongst other things. The final layer is all claw machines. I find myself browsing more than buying at Ebisu Mini Japan. That is what ultimately keeps this a three star spot.
