The owner said that airport folk aren't welcome today (Sunday 1pm) because he is having a bridge tournament with cruise ship passengers. You really haven't lived until you spend some time at this place. The owner had a shirt that said "don't be a +. " My 12 YO loved that. The owner has these birds, and they squawk, but he constantly screams at them "knock it off." He may use other language when children aren't present. We were there at about 1030, which meant that it was beer 30 for several of what I assume were snowbirds. Lots of character and characters at this place. Can't comment on the food, only had soft drinks and chips. read more

If Anthony Bourdain was still with us, he'd have a heyday at this place. The most unassuming dive spot next to the airport with dumplings that rival ones you'd find in Chinatown (seriously, I'm from NYC!). They're made by a Chinese woman who wound up in Vieques via her husband. The steamed pork dumplings and fried lobster & crab rangoons are to die for...so much so that we ordered an extra serving to-go. They're served with homemade soy sauce and fresh ginger from the island. Such an awesome off-the-beaten-path experience in Vieques. read more

This place was such a treat after getting stuck on vieques for a day. Ferry back to Fajardo was full so we decided to grab a plane back to the main island. Turns out the planes were full and we had to wait 5 hours until we get on a plane. Without a vehicle to get around we asked if there was any were to sit down while waiting for our flight. Turns out the owners wife makes amazing dumplings (meat and veggie option) that you can get fried or steamed. We had both and it was delicious, felt very fresh and full of veggies (we are both vegan and picky lol) they had other foods that we didn't try so it seems like they have an option for most people. People kept coming in either waiting for their flight or a ride out of the airport and it's so small that you kinda start talking to anyone that's around. Great place to end or begin your time in vieques as you can get/give tips and ideas. read more

We wouldn't have stopped in here if it weren't for a miscue that left us hanging out at the airport waiting for someone for a few hours, and that would have been a shame - this is a great spot. Tons of in-the-know locals hang out for a beer or stop in for a meal, and for good reason - Lyman and Lee have a great thing going. It doesn't look like much, but invariably the people were nice, friendly and full of good advice about what to do on the island, and the food is fresh and delicious. We had a couple of beers and hung out the first day - Lyman and everyone else there made us feel like old friends. Lyman gave us a sample of the roast pork and Amazing hot sauce they made with smoked habaneros and other mysteriously delicious ingredients, and we were sold. We came back the next morning for breakfast before heading to the beach and the huevos rancheros were awesome. We came back AGAIN for lunch before our flight back, and the fish tacos with mango were the bomb. My hubbie got a meatball sandwich with smoked mozzarella that should have been enough for two meals but only made it through one. We scored some of their hot sauce to take with - if I knew what was in it I'd bottle the stuff and make a fortune. It isn't fancy, but for good, fresh, reasonably priced food (especially after a diet of pretty much straight deep fried food in PR) and super friendly folks, it can't be beat. We stopped here before going to the beach to pick up sandwiches/chips/sodas/etc I got the breakfast burrito and it was DEEELISH! It was a tortilla with egg, cheese, chorizo and onions all wrapped up into a melty warm goodness. Salsa and hot sauce came on the side, and those were AWESOME with the burrito. This place had all kinds of breakfast fare, along with regular sounding sandwiches and a few specials of the day which were more Puerto Rican than anything else (think yellow rice with pink beans and some sort of meat on top... yum!) I thought this place was very reasonably priced and excellently located (it's in the airport parking lot!) It's just a little walk-up stand, so the only seating is some tables outside. read more

We were staying at the W and we didn't care for the food or the expense of eating at the restaurant there. While looking for a place in Vieques that was close and could get a decent 50 state breakfast we found the Isla Nena cafe on yelp. We had seen the cafe when we landed at the airport but never though much of it. So we jumped in the jeep and made the 5 minute trip over to the airport for breakfast. We were heading to the West side of the island so it was an easy choice to stop and check it out. Ordered a breakfast omelet with eggs/cheese/onions/peppers. With a side of rice & beans instead of toast & a Jambon sandwich. 9 bucks each (much much better than at the hotel :-)) The omelet was huge, lots of cheese, probably 3 maybe 4 eggs. Very good. Really hit the spot. The rice & beans were super good too. We took the sandwich to go to eat later at the beach. The sandwich was super rich. I'm thinking the cheese in the sandwich was gruyere (just guessing here) with eggs & ham. They also have two different types of local hot sauce to try as well as cocktails & beer. We liked this place so much we went back another day, got breakfast and took it back to the hotel to eat. If you have transportation and want a good filling breakfast/lunch swing by and check it out. read more

Went here today on the advice of expatriated locals. They said it was the place to go even though it was at the airport. Boy, were they right. Beers and dumplings. These were in league with Momofuku in Manhattan! The fried were great but the steamed, WOW! You wouldn't think it to look at it but it was so worth the misgivings of parking in Vieques' long term parking lot! read more

Had a delicious breakfast omelette with coffee. The food was fresh, hot and made to order. The service was friendly and prompt. Don't be fooled by the look or the location. It is located in the parking lot of the airport. You can sit at the bar or at tables located under a tent. If you're in a rush then grab it to-go. read more

A hidden gem located in the Vieques airport parking lot. Delicious omelettes (great size - 3+ eggs, loaded with cheese and bacon!) sandwiches, fresh coffee. Not only breakfast food but they can also make many other lunch/dinner plates any Ike of the day. You'd never expect to find such a taste if you drove by. We came here for breakfast after reading the reviews. First off, the omelettes were absolutely tasteless. I had to hold my breath in order to even swallow it, it was that bad. The tiny omelette was also ridiculously overpriced at $9.50. The worst part of the experience though was the owner. There was a small black puppy nearby who looked absolutely terrified. The puppy was doing nothing wrong, causing no harm, and the owner took a huge bucket and threw it right at the puppy while yelling at it. It was so incredibly inhumane that I teared up right away. At that point I thought it couldn't get any worse, but I was wrong. He proceeded to start loudly talking about a woman using the most derogatory language imaginable. He repeatedly yelled profanity. Great place to hang while waiting for tour flight, or if you just want to hang out and have a laugh or just to relax. I recommend the Chubby, sort of like those cheese steak sandwich on a homemade bread with onions, peppers and mushrooms. read more

This was a great quick lunch before our flight back to San Juan. The bartender/owner seemed really nice; I wish we had sat at the bar to chat with him more. His wife makes homemade dumplings which were quite nice (we had the steamed veggie ones). We also had the fish sandwich, which was good. I think we missed out by not ordering the rice and beans which looked fab. If you are nearby and need lunch, it's a great option; I would even consider going here when I'm not going to the airport. read more

This is a good place to take a rest or a quick meal before getting on the plane. I am suprised that they serve Chinese dumplings, and as a Chinese I would say they are quite tasty. The best airport bar/restaurant in the world. Make it a point to stop here on your way to AND from Vieques. The food is certainly not your usual bar fare, with well prepared international variety. The steamed pot stickers are my favorite but there are always unusual specials to try. The bartender is knowledgeable and friendly.
