I'd consider this more a tourist attraction with a short, somewhat slippery approach than a hike - though there are some easy trails in the same area if you still feel like soaking up some sunshine after Isak. Kid friendly but keep in mind it can be icy and is not maintained so crampons may not be a bad idea. Parking lot is quite large and free during the day. I love the concept of these trolls and think it's a fun art project. Given how easy it is to check him out, I say go for it. I've heard there can be crowds, but the scenery is lovely to look at while you're waiting your turn for a photo opp.

Isak Heartstone by Thomas Dambo, Feb 2019. Isak Heartstone 1 was relocated here. Name: 3 little girls gave Isak a stone heart. Sept. 2024.

Don't miss visiting Isak Heartstone in Breckenridge! He's a giant forest troll sculpture who delights the hearts of children and adults alike. Isak was commissioned by Breck Create. There have been 2 versions of this lovable mountain troll. The first time Isak made his debut he was so popular that he attracted thousands of visitors each day. Isak Heartstone 1 was dismantled in February 2019 and moved to his current location, in order to give him a space of his own. You can find him on his own trail in the woods near the entrance to the Illinois Creek Trailhead not far from Sunbeam Drive and Boreas Pass Road. Isak Heartstone was made for Breckenridge Creative Arts Festival Breck Create. On Thomas Dambo's website, the sculpture's creator, he states that Isak Heartstone got his name after three little girls, visited Isak and shared with him a stone heart, which Thomas installed in the first version of the sculpture. For those who may have less mobility and walking trails may be difficult, finding Isak is relatively easy compared to other trails. It's a short walk from the trail entrance to Isak, maybe a five minute walk. For those who would like to visit Isak in the winter, the city does not maintain this trail during the winter months. Omg this was such a fun walk and visit. Its a short like .04 mile walk with running water. Everyone visiting was so nice and respectful. I'd definitely come back if I come here again.

This is a must see in the area, and it's free! After a 50 foot very accessible walk you reach the troll and it makes for a great photo op!! We were able to take our parents along with us and they had no issues with this walk. This is pet friendly and also has picnic tables available.

I mean, how does this experience NOT get 5 stars? It's an iconic Breckenridge activity that my friend and I didn't do the first time we came here but fit it into our schedule the second time around, with a bunch of friends. I totally thought it'd be a huge trek, but you literally just park in the giant lot and walk 400 ft. from the Illinois Creek Trailhead. Perfect photo op to show off!

Really cool troll statue -- 5 minute walk from Ice Rink parking lot. Accessible for low mobility people. Waited 5 minutes in line for pictures. Ice rink has free parking for most of the day so park here and walk to downtown.

Beautiful and quick 400 ft hike to Troll

You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this beautiful piece of art. Not our first time going either. Isak is AWESOME and it's a quick little 5-10 minute walk from the free parking lot. Must see in Breck...so unique. Great photo opportunity!!!!

Absolutely beautiful little trail, we were on the fence about this and are so glad we went and did it! It wasn't too far of a walk but it's so scenic and so many good picture opportunities. We saw a fox in the parking lot too. We took the trolly here for free from Main Street. We went with a group of about 20 and we all had a blast doing this.

So I don't know what I was originally thinking when a friend asked if I wanted to go visit "the Troll"--mostly, I thought I was hallucinating her words. BUT, there is a for sure a troll in Breckenridge that everyone should check out if they can! The Troll is set back in a patch of woods--there is a parking lot specifically for the Troll, so be sure to look that up if you are trying to go. Once you park, there is a few minute walk to where the Troll is. I was worried that I should've worn my sneakers on the walk since everyone else was, but I was happy to note that even in my leather sandals, it was easy enough to get back there. Once you reach the Troll area, it is a small space for taking pictures and examining this cool art piece! My friend told me that it was originally in another location, so when you're looking it up, make sure you're in the right place. It was super fun to get there and take pictures in the little area--again, not a stressful or long walk to the Troll, but definitely worth it!

We came on a Saturday around noon and everyone else had the same idea! There was a line to get a picture with the troll, but it moved fast and people were very sweet about taking photos for each other. This is a very short easy hike for people with families or those with mobility issues- it has a wooden plank path and is only about 400 feet from the free parking lot. There are additional paths if you're looking for a little longer hike, and they have some art scattered on them that was cool to check out.

Amazing sight for sore eyes. A must see

A beautiful trail with lush trees, streams and wildlife. Such a wonderful hidden beauty. Definitely worth coming.

So,…read moreI heard about Spring Fever, Breckenridge's annual end of ski season festival, since I've moved here, but never made the trek up the mountain to check it out. But this year I was determined to make 1 show. We chose the last one of the month long event (the best band in the line up-moe.) The ride up wasn't so bad, and it was totally worth it. The band was great, and you could tell they were stoked to be playing there. They went on promptly at 3 and ended right at 5. It's a short show, but really, you can't complain since it's free. The beer and food prices were steep, but you can bring your own. We did pack a cooler full of beer and snacks and hauled it up with us. We weren't sure if they would allow it on the gondola but no one seemed to care, and there were several others with coolers. You can drink behind a certain blue line, as long as you are outside this magic line you were golden. Inside the magic blue line is where they sell their $9 Budweisers. No thanks. The back drop for the stage was as cool as it gets. Coming down the slopes throughout the show were skiers and boarders. Some were even catching major air off ramps. It was pretty cool. It made me want to learn how to do ski! And instead of the glow stick war, there was a massive snow ball war. I had to duck more than once! The staff was super cool dealing with a bunch of drunken ski bums and hippies who ventured out in the snow for this. Once the show was over, they wanted everyone off the mountain with quickness. It was all set up in a very organized fashion to shuffle us all out in the gondolas. The line was a bit long, but it moved quickly. I recommend packing a cooler and taking the trip to Breck and checking this out. I am going to keep my eyes open for next year's line up.

It was held at the Riverwalk Center, and despite having a ticket, it took us 20 minutes to get in once doors opened. Not to worry , there were plenty of samples to be had! They gave you a commemorative jumbo shot glass where you could go to the various booths and receive samples of straight liquor and liqueur or craft cocktails. It was really busy, and despite the seemingly treacherous flooring in the Riverwalk Center, it was pretty civilized and organized. Most people thought it was worth the $45! My favorites were the Rising Sun and Angel Fire. I also liked two cocktails especially well--the old fashioned sno-cone and the smoky one with the cookies! We had very little information to go off of so we took a leap of faith, booked the condo, and bought the tickets online. For all of $25 we weren't sure if we were stumbling into a bust of an event or not, and visions of standing around in the cold amongst folding tables drinking small thimbles full of cheap vodka danced in our heads. As it turns out the event is apparently one of the best kept secrets in Colorado! The event was indoors at a great venue, extremely well run with a large turnout, live band, food, and tons of extremely attentive spirit distributors exhibiting. Instead of just sampling straight liquor all night virtually every distillery has signature cocktails for you to sample, and some of the were just mind blowingly delicious. Some of my favorite distilleries in attendance were Peach Street (the big winners), Forecastle Rum, Montanya, Stranahan's, and Black Canyon (I still fantasize about their whiskey-rita). All in all it was an amazing event and quite possibly the best $25 I've ever spent. Don't hesitate to grab your friends, book a condo, and come up for this event in 2014!
