Shouldnt even give it 1 star. 1st time trying this place other than their ice cream stand last summer. (Which was a wait) We walked in and seated our selves. 1 person working the place. And it was pretty full. We noticed our side of the place, no one had coffe or food. That should have told us something. We were ignored so we left. Wont go back. Irvin's on Main was a great stopping point with internet access during my travels in Altoona PA. The Chappy Burger...OMG it's so delicious. It's a Blackened burger with Provolone cheese, hot peppers, lettuce, tomato, onions and homemade Cajun mayo. It's Perfection. And it came with the fresh cut fries on the side. You could taste the freshness of the fresh cut potatoes. This place was a pleasant surprise. I could see why it's a regular for the locals. read more

Found this one on yelp. It is a great breakfast place. I had the Blueberry pancakes. They we huge and light and fluffy. Best pancakes I have had in a while. It is off the beaten path, more of a local place. But worth a stop if you are looking for a hearty home cooked breakfast. read more

I'm not really sure what to say...atmosphere and food are decent for the town. Service? Well...no. Just no. The ladies working here seem absolutely miserable and don't have any problem showing it/voicing it loudly. My Dad has frequently come here for breakfast due to price and convenience but he just laughs because the waitresses are so miserable and rude. He had a tab of roughly $10 and paid with cash- the woman gave him back more than he handed her in change- when he tried to give her the money back she walked away and ignored him. It took another waitress to come over and make the correction. Seriously though- why are these women so upset and angry? If you don't like your job, quit and move on! read more

I guess for this area, it was ok. We had breakfast on a Friday morning. Everything was very normal taking. Nothing spectacular. Seemed as though seasonings might have been left off. The best breakfast I've had in the Altoona area. The place is clean and simple. I ordered "the mess." Mostly potatoes in this dish. I moved onto a simple sausage egg and cheese sandwich. Basically on vacation looking for Creamery ice cream without the walk onto Penn State campus. Online search brought us to Irwins on Main. The ice cream delivered! The food was good too! My husband had a generous portion of meatloaf served over mashed potatoes with gravy. We both had a side salad. Even tho I had stated I'm gluten sensitive there were croutons on my salad I had to remove. Otherwise it was good. I also had sweet potato fries that were waffle cut. One of best lunch options in the area. I typically get their Chappy Burger, which is very good. Service is friendly, and usually responsive. If they get busy, they can get behind, but nothing to get upset over. They also sell Penn State Creamery ice cream. read more

Great place for breakfast love the build your own breakfast deal one of the few places I found that has scrapple on the menu. The steak salad I had was very good also and the Penn State ice cream is a big plus with my wife and me. :-). read more

Food is average on a good day. Most of the wait staff are unfriendly. I suggest driving to Marzoni's for better food and better value. In my opinion, the owners have alot of work to do to bring this restaurant up to its mediocre to average potential. I will not be back except for take out PSU ice cream. read more
