Okay, full disclosure up front: this is my family farm. I grew up here. My parents live here and…read morerun it, and sell these products. Consider yourself warned. That being said, one of the things they produce on the farm is maple syrup. In the spring, usually in March and April (but it varies with the weather), they produce and sell all sorts of maple products from a roadside shop. It's in the middle of nowhere but there is a sign at the end of the lane, and the maple shop is right by the road. You can get a tour and see how it's made, and then buy to your heart's conent. Maple syrup in glass, plastic, or tins, from 125ml right up to 4 liter sizes. And, being the home of maple, you can get it in other forms you don't get outside eastern Canada and New England: maple cream (like fudge) in many shapes, maple butter (spreadable on toast), and granulated maple sugar. One of the best things on earth. And you won't get it cheaper - or better - than here.

I'm not quite sure of the appeal of Tim's. I know it's Canadian blasphemy to say you don't like Tim…read moreHorton's but I don't and this particular location takes the spot of the worst one I've been to. The sole worker behind the counter always seems to be in a foul mood but I can never understand why because it's never busy (at least not that I've seen) and they're always out of something. Maybe I'm going at the wrong times of day but you wouldn't expect them to be out of muffins, milk, and half of all their donuts all at once let alone more than once but that has been my experience with them. The plus side is that the bathrooms are always clean and that's actually my main reason for ever giving them any business as I feel guilty for dirtying their clean bathrooms and then not buying anything. If you're a smoker then you'll probably like their coffee as most of the Tim's fans I know are or were at one point smokers and there are still rumours going around that they still use nicotine in their coffee despite claiming to stop this practice once it was exposed. As a non-smoker, I find their coffee gives me a splitting headache and I leave every time vowing never to drink it again. But then I have to pee and my guilt gets the better of me. Bottom line: for 3 bucks and a small walk down Main St, you can do better. Much better.

While I wouldn't recommend their matcha soft serve (tasted more like a kit kat), the mango one wasn't bad! Their strawberry shortcake didn't really have any pieces in it and taste more like just strawberry. Overall, I'd say stick to the ice cream instead --- the standout being their going to the movies one which did taste like butter popcorn and pretzels, and was pretty unique. Staff are friendly and the lineup goes fast during the warm weather.

I love the rustic modern look with the brick wall and interesting artwork. I also love their window art with plants and cactuses. The two girls working were very sweet and what I thought was helpful. I asked what was vegan and she told me "the soups I'd 100 percent vegan but the curry mango jackfruit was vegan but the bun was not." Which really confused me since on their board it said "feat. Vegan" so I asked her why it would be under featured vegan if the bun was not. She responded "don't even get me started, I keep telling them they shouldn't do that." So of course this really confused me and annoyed me. I ended up just ordering two soy chai lattes (one with coffee, the other without). The latte itself wasn't very flavourful, the barista told me to bring it back over if it wasn't sweet enough. I did that but still found it bland. Also it was quite watery versus other lattes I have had. When I left I wrote on the local vegan group on Facebook with my concerns. One man was really upset so he wrote Duo Cafe where they ensured that the buns were indeed vegan. So I guess my main thing now is, they need some training by the sounds of it. Sadly, I can't say I will ever go back from my experience. Seems they need to make sure staff understands what's vegan.
