After seeing Dr. Mikhail for nearly 15 years and talking him up to my mom the entire time, she finally relented after dealing with one mediocre internist/GP after another. Plus, their offices weren't very responsive or helpful. She had been concerned about the drive to Irvine since she doesn't live in OC, but after meeting him today about a list of issues, she walked out feeling empowered and happy to be in some expert hands. I went with her to her appointment so I was there to see how he treated her. He asked her questions, listened to her answers, and carefully examined her as if she were his own mom. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that level of care and patience. Now my mom can't stop talking about how amazing Dr. Mikhail is -- she said that all her other doctors have never been so thorough. For instance, she has had breathing issues the last few years yet no one had ever had her do a breathing test to figure out the cause. Dr. Mikhail quickly got a test ready for her, then diagnosed and treated the issue. I can't thank Dr. Mikahil enough for all these years of outstanding service, expertise, and kindness. He is the kind of doctor that won't run batteries of tests on you unless it's actually called for. I now live 50 miles away from his office and will still make the drive down to see him. I've recommended a number of friends and colleagues to him throughout the years and they all agree that Dr. Mikhail is hands-down the BEST internist around. We are SO LUCKY to be his patients! P.S. This doctor is by far the worst. What kind of doctor doesn't look into a patients health concern when it runs in his family? Not to mention his staff and him were too lazy to even to type out a linki shared with them that had my health records. This doctor and his staff actually told me they "can't copy and paste" the link because their portal doesn't allow it. They didnt even try to type out the link on the browser or anything because never got a notification that someone was requesting access to the link. They just looked at the link and said no come in with a hard copy we're not going to bother with the link. Rudest and most inconsiderate response and handling of a patient records. I have never had a doctor so lazy and ignore my health needs like this doctor. And his staff are extremely rude and condescending and rush you off the phone every time. This doctor didnt look at the blood work at all. Other doctors saw my blood work and recommended things based off my family history because they saw things that concerned them. And when I went back to ask him about it and to look at my labs again and order extra testing because of this condition that runs in my family, he literally dropped me as a patient and said "there's a problem with our doctor-patient relationship." This guy is joke and he doesn't even answer questions. If god forbid you have a question, he actually gets annoyed if you ask him too many questions. This doctor certainly has a following. Maybe it was an off day. Didn't click. I don't know. But the doctor that walked into the exam room for a first patient visit was not the doctor raved about in the reviews. Entry. humble looking office with cramped waiting area. Front desk staff were nice enough. Efficient check in process. It helped I had the paperwork filled out. Wait wasn't too bad. Very small exam room. Enough room for computer and chair for doc to sit. Exam table, and one extra chair. No warm fuzzy greetings. Doc didn't seem happy to have me in the room or to be there. He was laser focused on the medications list and what he did not write prescriptions for. Never was the appointment scheduled as a prescription consult. It was a first patient visit to establish a PCP. All I can guess is something hit his hot button and he came into the room with hopes of 'attituding' me away in a feux polite manner. It was uncomfortably awkward. If you are a solo practice, you do have the luxury of cherry picking your patients to make your life easier I suppose. Complicated patient - need not apply . read more

I was recommended to this office by a local resident. Unfortunately, I didn't have a positive experience and would not recommend it to anyone. ---The service is not worth the $$$--- I visited Dr. Mikhail for the first time in May for advice on nasal allergies. I was in the office for less than 20 mins ( that includes the time the assistant took my weight & height, and when I waited for the doctor). I double-checked the time afterward based on my car dash camera footage. Dr. Mikhail checked my back with a stethoscope, looked into my nose, asked a few questions, and prescribed 2 OTC treatments (very common medicines, which I had known already) and one with a prescription. I also mentioned that I had snoring issues and he said it might be alleviated if the allergy is treated. ---Billing issues--- Dr. Mikhail also prescribed some preventative physical testing. I understand the need for that, but later I found out on my own that my insurance couldn't cover those testings or the prescribed medicine. I would have appreciated it if he/his assistant had asked me about my insurance coverage beforehand (I repeatedly told them that I was new to doctor's visits in the US). I was billed $232.88 (before insurance) for that visit with code 99203. I called the office to ask if there's a chance that the code was wrong -- from multiple online sources, this code is usually for a 30-44min session for a new patient. The staff who answered my phone sounded impatient. She insisted that the billing code was based on the complicity of the visit instead of its length. I said I was disappointed at how they are handling the issue and might need to switch to another PCP and she sounded like she didn't care. Normally I don't write reviews, but I decided to do it because I feel very strongly about my experience with Dr. Mikhail. I would not have had issues with the bill if it was indeed a 30-44 min session with Dr. Mikhail and he asked me if I would mind him prescribing medicine and testings that are not covered by my insurance. I would not have had issues with the office if the staff who picked up my phone were a little bit more friendly and patient. I would look for a new PCP who cares more about my concerns and whose staff shows more patience. read more

I called the office on 6/9 to schedule my husbands physical for 7/1. front desk took down his info as a new patient, made him a chart and apparently didn't schedule him!!! When we went, the MA didn't show any remorse and was questioning me! I asked "do you have his information" she said "yes" ! This being his first visit, no way that I would just call give out my husband's information and not schedule his visit! I even mention the phone conversation I had when I first called and how frustrating this is because of how busy my husband work has been lately! She didn't even TRYYY to help us! She just said he is not scheduled! I feel like she was the person I talked on the phone, because she refused to go talk to other MAs or the doctor to see if they can squeeze my husband in! A poorly ran office, lack of attention to detail, treated poorly Issues with Record Keeping: I went in to get some tests done. The staff asked me to sign up for the online patient portal website they use. When I asked if my records would be available there, they said not automatically. I was told in order to get records of my visits and test results on the site I would have to remember to ask them to upload them each time I visited. Issue with Prescription: I received a prescription from Dr Mikhail. He forgot to write the frequency (times per day) on the prescription so the Pharmacy would not fill it until he corrected it. It was a Friday; he did not make the correction until late Tuesday, so I was not able to get my prescription until Wed, 5 days later. Issues with Billing: I scheduled an appointment for preventative care - physical and testing. I was very clear with the doctor and with the staff I did not want any test that was not covered by my insurance. I requested this repeatedly and they acknowledged my request. Subsequently I was billed for 4 tests that were not covered because the doctor prescribed a single group of tests instead of specifying the 4 tests I did need. Additionally I was billed for the physical because they did not code it as preventative care. Even my insurance company who is not in the business of paying when they don't have to, stated I should not have to pay and this was the doctors error. Issues with Prescription Refill Requests: I requested a refill from my pharmacy. They informed me Dr. Mikhail wrote the prescription and they would need to contact him to get a refill. This did not happen immediately and after returning from some unexpected travel 2 weeks later I asked the Pharmacy if my prescription had been refilled. They informed me they had contacted Dr. Mikhail's office repeatedly via phone and fax with no response. I called the doctors office and spoke to the head nurse Jamie who said she never received any request for a prescriptions refill. Issues with Record Keeping #2: Jamie also claimed the Doctor had never written a prescription for me in the first place. She checked the records and said there was nothing there. I later checked the prescription bottle and verified Dr Mikhail was the prescribing doctor. Staff Attitude: While on the phone with Jamie, she made it a point to state that I was wrong repeatedly and suggested maybe I had the wrong doctor. When I tried to explain to her that I had just got off the phone with the pharmacist who stated Dr Mikhail was the prescribing doctor she just talked over me and kept repeating there was no record. When I suggested that records are entered manually and are subject to human error, incredulously she asked me why I was being argumentative with her. I told her I was going to let the doctor know about the conversation she and I had. It's a he-said she-said scenario, but when you combine this with all the other issues here...the old adage "where there's smoke there's fire" comes to mind. Issues with Providing Feedback Directly to the Doctor: I called back later to leave a message for the doctor to let him know what happened but when I selected the options to leave him a message I got Jamie's voicemail box. I then called and talked to another staff member who said I could provide feedback directly to the doctor via the online patient portal website. The next morning before I could submit feedback I received an automated email stating: "You were un-enrolled from Patient Portal by your practice and cannot use the portal for communication with Irvine Internal Medical Group." I called and talked to the staff and they said Jaime had told the doctor that I was rude to her and that I could not be a patient there or access my records. I was never planning on going to this doctor again but it seems cruel to block a patient from accessing their records. Plus I was blocked from contacting the doctor directly to let him know how Jamie treated me. I suspected this was not the first time she had had a problem with a patient judging by her oversensitivity and short fuse with me. The staff member said I could email her and she promised to forward the email to the doctor. Not trusting that, I decided to communicate what happened here and via a formal complaint to my insurance company instead. read more

Dr. Mikhail is an extraordinary physician, I have recently switched over to him due to multiple outstanding recommendations from family and friends. As soon as I switched to have him as my primary care Dr, he ordered a full panel test, did a physical exam and provided the necessary referrals I requested. During any of the visits I had appointments for, Dr Mikhail spends time explaining and listening to any of my concerns and answering questions. I truly appreciate a Dr that does not rush a visit and is thorough in his care. The main RN Sego is also such a sweetheart and is highly intelligent. I would steer clear of this facility. I can't really review the doctor, as the receptionists were so RUDE and unaccommodating that I walked out before seeing him. Sooooo.. my experience basically went as follows: - Made an appointment to see Dr. Mikhail on a Friday afternoon, gave the receptionist all of my insurance info so she could check my benefits, yadayadayada- standard stuff. - Like most people, I start work before most physician offices open and get off once they close, so I took a half day to see Dr. Mikhail and another doctor on the same day. - I arrived EARLY, and had my paperwork already completed. Receptionist took my paperwork and then the waiting game began... - 15 minutes later, the receptionist called me up and (with her bad attitude) tried to inform me that Dr. Mikhail was not listed as my PCP, therefore he could not see me today....... Two things.. (1) I have a PPO insurance... and I have NEVER had to establish someone as a PCP before seeing them... (2) HOW COULD HE BE MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN WHEN I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM BEFORE?! - The receptionist continued arguing with me until a nurse or alternate receptionist (not really sure who she was) stepped in and informed me I needed to call my insurance company. Long story short, my insurance company told me they were wrong... their information was wrong.. and it should not have been such an issue for me to have been seen.. - When I tried telling the receptionist, she continued to have a snobby attitude and informed me that I could finally see Dr. Mikhail in another 15-20 minutes.. which was really over 30 minutes PAST my scheduled appointment time. Overall, this may be a very good doctor.. who knows.. What I DO know is that he really needs to find better staff and educate them on insurance procedures.. oh and teaching them a little guest service wouldn't help. Very nice, thorough doctor. I hadn't been to a general practitioner in years and I figured after having a baby last year it was time for a check up and some blood work. I called and was able to get an appointment within that week. He made me feel very comfortable during the visit. The nurse Jaime is super sweet too. This is a small practice and you will only see Dr. Mikhail. He was down to earth and didn't rush through the appointments. I have been a patient of Dr. Mikhail for over 10 years. My grown-up children and husband have been going to him for over five years, I love his practice and have recommended him to many people. When my daughter was very sick and we couldn't figure out what was wrong, he was calling my home on the weekend to check on her. When I had pneumonia, he called my house almost every day to see how I was doing. You do not get that kind of care in this day and age. I am sure that if he refused medication to a patient (as a review listed below), there was a reason why. i have never known him to overprescribe or to trick me into visits for the money. I had to revise my initial 5 star review of Dr. Mikhail based on my second annual visit. I am disheartened and disappointed at the dismissive way I was treated in bringing up a medical issue that I told him about. Long story short I told him about this issue and his exact words were"Well we won't worry about that right now." He didn't even bother to speculate or recommend me to a specialist for it. He simply ignored the fact that there was an issue. If you ever hear a doctor say this please get a second opinion immediately! I am now in recovery from having surgery to correct that issue. It was another doctor (one that I found using Yelp reviews) who identified this issue immediately during a routine check up without me telling him about it yet and suggested I surgically remove the problem before it became a bigger problem. I agreed given that the problem had become larger within the last number of months. Again I'm very disappointed because I thought I had found a great doctor in Dr. Mikhail but any doctor that can dismiss an issue so readily is one that I can't trust with my health. read more

After scheduling an appointment, got a call from his office. They changed my appointment from December to Feb 2015. I went to my appointment, Dr. Mikhail was not friendly at all. He entered the room, and asked few questions. It looked like he was in hurry. I had few questions for him, and tried to ask him. He did answer the questions.... Like .. Ok, u can do it. I rescheduled an appointment, and I waited for it 15 days. when I finally reached that day, they call me and said that the doctor is going to leave early , and we have to reschedule you for another appointment. They gave me another appointment after 6 days . They didn't send me a massage or remind me about the time of my new appointment. I came late while I am thinking I came early because I thought my appointment was afternoon same time as my old appointment . When I said I will wait for the doctor, they said he can't see you today we have to reschedule a new appointment. When I complained about what happened, they didn't care . We contacted them as we were looking for new doctor and my wife wanted a female doctor... given the good ratings and the name (Group) I thought this might be a good choice. Surprise! no group, just one guy. I'm happy to say I found my new Dr. A couple months ago I had to come in for food poisoning. The staff and the Dr where great they put up with me through the entire thing. Today I had a horrible headache due to my diabetes. The Dr was so nice and respectful of his colleagues I was very impressed! In addition I was crying because I was being a big baby one of those days I guess, and he managed to make me feel better.
