A low cost fee of $34 dollars for the one day workshop (which was 2 1/2 hours) I had a positive experience! We learned how to make all sorts of things, Biscotti, Tarts, working with puff pastry & fillo dough, and of course truffles. All the materials were included with the one time fee as well. You had a chance to bake things yourself and learn while others were baking with other things. My friend and I were the only people under 40, but it was still a great time. The instructor seemed to have lots of experience and was friendly. I plan on taking another workshop soon, called Tour of Europe which will specialize in all different types of food from Europe. :) Good times! Not to mention, I have a killer recipe now for a Bavarian Creme Apple Cream Cheese Torte. (And of course you get to take the baked goods home) Kudos to the community for offering things like this.

Even knowing the child was kept home because they were sick and that they have a doctors note she yelled, " If you do not bring your child to school I will contact the truancy officer." Good, do it, I've done nothing wrong. We are not slaves to the school. It is there to serve the people. Children that are sick need to be cared for and this policy and the tactics used cause alot of children to get sick mine included. Let's celebrate the well being of others and not compromise it by making parents feel like they could be punished if they care about their child and the safety of others enough to give their child care and attention when they need it most.

Let's just say he has a bit of an extra challenge. But I can't even express the power of amazing teachers!! Every single one of his teachers this year fostered his confidence. He's a shy child but, his teachers told me he was a top participant in his classes. They encouraged him and praised him and also assisted him to use his skills in unique ways. For example, an art project for my son is daunting. He gets very stressed. He doesn't have the coordination to cut and paste or anything intricate. His teacher worked with him and allowed him to use his computer skills instead. So he was producing videos and power point presentations in place of some of the assigned work. This entire year, I knew his teachers cared about him, and his grades and wellbeing. I am sure this is also a reflection of great leadership on the administration side of things as well! Nate went from struggling last year in virtual school to shining brightly! With his math and science teachers' encouragement he applied, and was accepted, into Utica's Center for Math Science and Technology! He also managed to get on the all A honor roll! Thank a teacher! They can make an enormous difference in your child's confidence! I can't believe I have a Freshman now!

Utica Community Schools rock! I have 5 kids that currently attend 2 of the schools in the district…read more My oldest is at the junior high, but because he is in 9th grade, he's in the matching band for Eisenhower High school. This school is as exceptional, as the rest in the district. When we sold our house back in April, our number 1 criteria for finding a new house was that it HAD to be in the Utica district. We bought a house in Slate August, just days before the start of the new year- and it WAS in the Utica district. So close to our old house that our kids did not even have to switch school. The teachers are amazing and willing to help and go above and beyond 110%! They are willing to meet at your convenience- if you ever need to talk or if you see your child struggling. The inside of the schools are always immaculate- even if there is 100s of kids spending 8 hours plus inside. I can't say enough good things about Utica Community Schools. I'm so pleased with the education my kids are receiving!

It has its downsides but overall is a great place to be and helps create memories, and connections…read morethat will last a lifetime.

The treatment of their staff, students, the way they handle situations, and how they use their money. Just last week it came out that a music director at one of the high schools have been sending female students sexual emails for years, not only did he work at that high school but multiple in the district and MIDDLE schools. He got to resign, not fired but resign. They refuse to speak about it. Teachers have to protest for fair contracts. UCS is one of the top 15% districts in Michigan, if that were really true I'm petrified to see any district below it. I'm a graduate from one of their schools and have gone to 2 of their elementary schools, 1 of their middle schools, and 3 of their high schools. I have siblings at an elementary school different than one than either of the two I went to. Shit all around.

That made a big impact on me, and it's something I still value today. Academically, I felt challenged and well-prepared for college. There were strong classes, great teachers, and a good balance of support and expectations. It's not a massive school, which actually made it easier to get involved--sports, clubs, music, student groups--you didn't have to be the best to participate, and that meant a lot. No place is perfect, but LHN is a strong, affordable option for families looking for a high school that combines solid academics, a real sense of community, and a faith-first approach. I'm really glad I went there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
