Stopped by after work for a 9 hole. Lots of parking. plenty of space to change in the women's locker room/ which is more of a restroom. Pro shop employee was very nice- young guy. Picked up a bucket of practice balls- the automated machine is broken, so the shop employee had baskets and a big trash can full of balls. I recommend the small, because it's $5 and he filled that small basket to the top! Shop has shoes, clubs, shirts etc, anything you might want or need. The practice facility you have to walk up to. You can't drive the cart to your spot. The mats were quite beat up but they have short and longer fake grass. The carts are basic- no speaker and no gps. No towels. No cooler. Handheld magic sand and a bucket of it. Course conditions were ok. Some of the greens were very nice and some were scorched. The fairways were ok. The rough areas are super sandy, lots of weeds. Had a great time golfing. Booked on GolfNow, and paid $26 at the course. Apparently they have twilight prices which are even cheaper, but I'm not quite sure when that starts- approximately 6:30pm. There's no restroom between 3-4. There are some water hazards. Bunkers were ok. Tee boxes were ok. But I found myself in the rough quite a bit and the conditions were so sandy and weeds! Made it difficult to get out of. Bar staff was super friendly. They have a pretty good food menu and good prices on alcohol- that booze bucket would be my drink of choice! Service on the course only Thursday through Sunday, so make sure you get the booze bucket on days the cart girl isn't out there. They have a league Thursday evenings and lots of info on upcoming tournaments/charity events. I would golf here again. Will return to play the back 9. read more

Greens are in horrible shape. Driving range is the worse I've ever experienced. The ranger doesn't no enforce pace of play and refused to enforce 'one-ball/one player' rule to singles who jumped in front of us on the back nine. The fairways were as expected for a course in disrepair, and you never get a good lie and seldom get an grass under your ball. Lack of sand in the traps coupled with unmarked obstacles made the play miserable. There's no food in the clubhouse, and no cart girl selling refreshments. Our foursome drove down from Jacksonville to play, and it was hardly worth the time or gas money. We won't be back. read more

i wish I could give negative stars. Avoid this place. They act like they are Augusta but the course is complete garbage and the staff is unbelievable rude. They should all go work for the government. I can't tell you how much we disliked it. Go somewhere else. We went to have fun and left very disappointed after dropping $450. Do not recommend. read more

Went with two teenagers to walk 9 holes on Sunday over Memorial Day. Very disappointed in the course conditions. The Pro Shop clerk did not inform us that the sprinkler system on the course had been out for 2 weeks. In May. In Florida. The course was a brittle, crackling, dry grass mess. If not for the youths, would have asked for a refund. At the least would have expected honesty from the Pro Shop. The ranger is the one who informed us of the sprinkler outage. Shame on you Ironwood! read more

Played first time at Ironwood on March 24, 2023, early morning. Very rude staff. Lady at counter acted like we ruined her day by showing up. The "first tee manager" was just as rude. We will not be back. We cancelled our future tee times with Ironwood and rescheduled at another course in Gainesville. The course is in poor shape as well ... neglected. read more

We love us some Nell! She works so hard and keeps the beer flowing ! Stop by and have some laughs at a beautiful fun and friendly golf course ! read more

Terrible service didn't acknowledge or help out with golf equipment. I came in after speaking with them over the phone and when I entered they ignored me and my partner when we attempted to ask about where to go. I also paid for about four hours and was unable to get a refund. Weird vibes and poor customer service read more

If I could I would give this golf course an NEGATIVE 1000000000 Terrible condition over booked tee times and a staff was rude. If you enjoy golf - don't play here. Gainesville, with the exception of UF, has no golf courses worth playing. Turkey Creek, which only recently reopened after being closed for more than 10 years is already in better condition than all the other public golf courses available in Gainesville. Ironwood would be the on the very bottom of a the short list of courses in the area. For any decent golf - other than UF or Turkey Creek, expect to drive 45 minutes to 2 hours. read more

Poor management. Slow day on the course today, cart girl was taking putts while waiting for 20 minutes on hole 9. When brought to a management by her we were told we were in the wrong for complaining about the wait time. Not how a course should be run. Let alone the guys in-front of us are in jeans and t shirts. Minutes later the cart girl was seen driving straight across the green to avoid us. read more

Overall rating four stars. But here is a break down. Practice Range = 4/5 : Great range with shade, mats, lightning, and decent length for all clubs. The putting green is not massive but works for the amount of people that frequent this course. Nice chipping green with three or so holes. Course itself 3/5 : The course is in great shape the fairways are in good condition, even though the rough is tall it adds a level of difficulty. The tee boxes are in nice condition. The only problem are the greens and the edges of the fairways. They were a little ruff, the greens were really slow and spotty. The course is long from the orange tees (6600) and short from the yellow (4800), and not that difficult. Varying hole types, some with woods, some with water, and some open. Great course design and layout. Clubhouse 5/5 : Big clubhouse with pro-shop, bar/restaurant, locker rooms, and large meeting room. read more

I've been coming to this course almost every week this semester. Every time, I walk in with a smile and treat the employees with as much respect as you possibly can. Without fail, they are immature, impolite, and do not treat you like a paying customer. I've been coming here almost every week and nothing has changed. On top of that, now that the winter season has begun, they have raised their twilight rate to an outrageous $32. I understand Winter golf is more desirable, but the twilight rate doesn't start until 2, leaving less than 4 hours until sundown. This is the absolute first twilight tee time they have, which we played today, and they still won't let you play all 4 hours! It would make sense if the last twilight rate is 2 and they let you play until 6, but no, this is the FIRST twilight time, AND they will kick you off at 5:30. Like I said, I was here last week, and they said to bring the carts in by 5:45. That's not a problem. However, this time, when we came in more than 30 minutes earlier, we were kicked off at 5:30 -- under 100 yards out from the 17th green -- with a good 15-30 minutes of daylight left. For one, I've never been kicked off a course before. Normal courses understand how to book tee times and trust that you will not continue playing in the dark. IronHOOD will treat you like a toddler and make sure you get out of there AT LEAST 15 minutes before dark so they can go home. If you want me to only play 16 holes, I'd be happy to pay for 16, but if I paid your outrageous rate for 18, and I'm still kicked off before sundown, that's a scam. Be careful of what you pay here. If you don't mind paying $55 in the morning for a course that's worth $20, be my guest, but be weary when trying to get a deal, they have no problem scamming you out of what they can. Today was my birthday celebration. Thank you IronHOOD for a fantastic round on my home course, I won't be coming back for a long time. read more

I love Gainesville. It's full of so many interesting things to do. There are so many shops to explore, so many places to go.. So many places to eat. And of course... GO GATORS! read more

Course in good shape. Playing at a great pace until the turn when got stuck behind players that started at 10. Some quick food at the turn woulda been nice but those hot dogs i read about in other reviews were non-existent. Otherwise the golf now rate made it all worth while read more

Giving a more recent review to Ironwood! If you are looking for an unpretentious place to play golf in the area, Ironwood is your place! The small group beginner sessions are super reasonable. If no one else happens to book your time, you essentially get a private lesson. Renting the equipment is included in the price. Eric is great. Rates for tee-times are reasonable as well. They are as cheap as $16 dollars for evening times (including a cart) I look forward to playing there again when I am back in Gainesville! read more

OK I haven't golf here since the City of Gainesville spent $1.5 million dollars upgrading the course. I remembered each hole as the used to be, and personally I couldn't see one thing that was different. $1.5M should buy something. But the course isn't any different that is used to be. Drainage might be better, but it' still the same layout. Service was great. Price I feel is $5 to high for what your getting. They said the course was in great shape. The greens were ok, the fairways ok, but lots of little brown patches around. All in all it was just ok. Nothing great. read more

Ironwood is a wonderful place to play a round of golf or practice your drive on their newly lighted driving range. The course is kept in great shape for being a municipal course. I found the staff to be very friendly both on the course, and in the clubhouse. I was surprised at the great deals on drinks at the "19th hole". Katie, Jenna and Sara all took great care of everyone in my party, and we had a great time. I'd highly recommend this hidden gem for either a weekday or weekend of fun! read more

Not a great course at all if you're looking to play a little seriously don't come here. If you're looking to just hit golf balls around and have a decent time it's not that bad I definitely think it should be less for 9 holes but I don't own the course and there's no other cheap places to play in Gainesville. read more

Nice people, but one of the worst muni's I've ever played. The greens are absolutely torn up....they've lost them. Just atrocious. Multiple greens with huge patches of damage and disease. Also the driving range is horrible. Old green mats, too close to other golfers, dirty with trash everywhere. I'd avoid this course like the plague. read more

Lately in terrible shape due to transition to new maintenance company. No grass on the greens so they are fast, like putting on a parking lot. Let's hope the new crew can get the course back in shape. Last time I played was in April 2022, which is the basis for this review. read more

It's strange to me that no one really reviews golf courses, especially on Yelp. Even in larger cities like Orlando, you are likely to find twice as many reviews for a mini golf place than for an actual 18-hole golf course, where there are many more tangible things to review. Oh well, I'll try to help a little. I played Ironwood last weekend. I never played it before the recent renovation so I can't compare, but the course is in great shape, especially the greens. They roll very true and fast. You won't get many lucky bounces with a poor shot like you can at some courses, and you won't have to putt through a beach or an ant hill to get your ball to the hole. The holes have good variations in distance and also many obstacles and dog-leg holes that will make you think twice about swinging away with a driver on every hole. Accuracy in the fairways is also important as the rough can get VERY thick at times. From what I understand, one of the major changes after the renovation was done on hole 18. The sand/chipping practice green is located beside the hole 10 tee box and behind the hole 18 green, and it apparently used to be the hole 18 green itself. It makes the 18th hole fairly short and easy which is nice. I'm not too happy with the current prices; morning weekends are $41.50 with a cart. While the course is far and away the best public course in Gainesville, the price reflects it. When you compare to Ocala courses or other nearby cities, which have comparable course conditions, the prices are much cheaper. I doubt I'll be back here unless it's for a special rate or with a coupon. read more

Golf course is maintained below average and fairways are dried out. Greens have horrible bumps around them and are not taken care of. The girl that worked the front today had horrible attitude and every time I've come to golf they run out of food. read more

A Ok course nothing special but well maintained. I think it's still city owned and it does have the feel like a simple city park. The layout is nice and theres just enough water to guarantee a golfer of my skill looses a few balls. read more

For a Gainesville private golf course this is as good as it gets. It has a driving range, putting green and chipping green. The course is an 18 hole par 72. The club house is very nice and features a full service bar. The prices do go down in the afternoon but it is a bit pricey to play 18 holes early. They offer a senior and student discount. This is my favorite course to play in Gainesville. It is very comparable to the UF golf course. read more

Course is pretty rough. Seems to get a lot of play with little maintenance, which is a shame because the setting is nicely wooded and scenic. read more

The golf course is beautiful and in great condition, the staff is friendly and the hot dogs are good as well. The course is challenging enough to have a great round with your buddies or by yourself. I like seeing all of the wildlife that appears out of no where; there are many deer, turkeys, and water birds. The only drawback is the cartpath only days are plentiful this time of year. You just have to be a shot maker and hit it in the vacinity of the cart path. Great Place read more

In town for a wedding and wanted to play some golf in Florida for the first time. Girls at desk were great. Fairways were decent and greens in excellent condition for a city course. Nothing to mention other than a challenging course and fun for beginners. It'll surely be a place to come back too. We'll worth the money. read more

The course was nice. The employees up front were nice and welcoming. It was our first time there. A lot of groups were playing. Everything was going well until hole sixteen or so. Ranger came to our group and sarcastically told us to pick up the pace. We made him aware that there were two groups ahead of us that were backing the course up. I understand what the ranger is suppose to do. He ruined the groups mood. I doubt I will be back. read more

Not a bad course but not the best either. The greens are much improved from what they were and the sand traps are maintained well. The fairways are patchy and full of divots that can give you a bad lay even if you hit it down the center. The driving range isn't great and it's overpriced for a token of balls. It's around $4 for 25-30 balls! On the range there are no markers for the flags and the grass is in bad shape so you need to tee up most of your shots. This is more of a reason a token of balls should be cheaper. Overall it's one of the better courses in the area (there's not a lot to choose from) that is at a reasonable price. read more
