When she declined, they suddenly "found" the part and quoted $1,800, then took a deposit. A quick search showed the OEM part is widely available for around $150, and the job typically takes 1-2 hours. Charging $1,800 for that kind of work is hard to justify. To their credit, when I called and requested a refund of the deposit, they returned it without issue (hence the 2 stars). That said, the initial sales approach was misleading and predatory. For context, another company has since quoted $460 for the same repair.

Met with owner and he justified the price mostly due to "knowing his costs", generous salaries for his employees, enormous overhead, advertising and a "small profit margin" Lesson learned. When the technician goes into upsell mode and tells you they are offering a competitive price, don't believe them. Get three quotes. Also, they remove any negative reviews and want you to not post anything detrimental on social media.

He even made the suggestion that my contractor made upon his initial inspection of the building about 5 months ago. That suggestion was to install a heater that allowed me to upgrade to central air whenever I am ready to install the new condenser. Due to the fact that I was replacing the system during one of the coldest winters in the last several years, estimates were insane! He also made suggestions about the basement moisture levels and concrete that will help to preserve the life of the heater. Leopoli's did not conduct business that way.
