Words can't describe the attention to detail this guide had towards us. I've been on $6000/ day charters out in the beautiful blue ocean in Hawaii and some flats in Key West searching for bone fish. Those don't compare to the detail he put into this trip. 1) Let's start off with meeting: He was ready 5 minutes early. (To Me, if you're onetime, you're late. You be early always. He started this off perfectly.) 2) Gas up: Well, he wasn't gassed up but it was as fast as filling your own tank. 3) We got into the water quickly. No fussing around. Looking for that. probing this. Done! 4) We were in the water fishing quickly. 5) Equipment: Even though Mario didn't know we are experienced fisherman, he gave us high end reels and rods. None of this cheep Walmart or grandfather hand-me-downs. His equipment was well maintained and ready. Huge Plus in my book! 6) Boat: What can I say about this. This was the nicest river boat I've ever seen. The seats were plush with no rips. There was even an heater in the front to keep my toes nice and warm. Cleanest boat I've ever been on to rent. 7) No matter how many times I needed more bait on my line, he never complained. NEVER! Another major plus. 8) He always handled the fish. Cared a lot about us bringing them in. 9) If it was a good honey hole, he would go back up it several times so we could fish it again and again. 10) He really didn't look at his watch. He even pulled his own rod out and fished with us even though he couldn't keep the fish! 11) When we got to the bottom, the care was ready for us to go back. Never complained. Never made me feel uncomfortable. Took pics with the fish for us and even told us some about the beauty surrounding the river. Mario is the top guide I've ever had. My friend and I went fishing with Mario on the Rogue River this past weekend and had a great time. Mario was very kind to these 2 old boys who had never fished out of a drift boat or back bounced with bait.one more thing off our to do list Mario was always kind in his instructions on how and where to fish his tone was always pleasant even when we thought we did wrong. Though we did not catch any fish do to our part the experience was great and the company even greater We hope to try again in the Fall Mario is a gentleman and a scholar to his profession he has a love for what he does it is not just a job that I see in a lot of people. I just returned from a guided fishing trip with Mario Gomez, owner and operator of Ironhead Guide Service in Happy Camp, California. We fished on the Klamath River. This is not my first trip with Mario nor is it my last trip. I personally caught between 30 and 40 Steelhead on a 2 day fishing trip. This is the typical agenda when you fish with Mario. I have never ever written a review on this app before but I had too after spending a day with Bobby on the Chetco. Not only did he put me on my first steelhead EVER In my five unsuccessful years chasing them but me and my dad had a genuinely good time doing it. Besides having top of the line gear an extremely comfortable boat and being incredibly knowledgeable and patient he was a stand up guy! My Grandson and I (Ruben) went Steelhead Fishing with Mario in March on the Klamath River, I was amazed at how well Mario handled the Drift Boat and kept our lines baited up and on the Fish. We caught fish all day long and had a great time. Mario is an Awesome Guide and a Person, He also recommended a R/V Camp for us to stay at in Happy Camp, the owners are great people and very Funny. My buddy Jim and I had a fantastic day on the river last Fall with Mario. Highly recommended... with Mario you are in the hands of a total pro - one who grew up on the Klamath, knows every rock and riffle and knows where the fish are hangin'. If there are fish around, Mario will find them. We released about 30 half pounders between us that day, both on fly and drifting roe. Steelhead are amazingly strong fighters and a thrill. Arms were sore at the end of the day! Adult fish were scarce that day, but we had a blast and we will be back! read more

A friend and I floated along the Kalamath with Mario in late April 2014. The night before our float, we went into town and everyone had great things to say about Mario. Every time we said that we were floating down the river with Mario, people would say, "You won't get skunked and Mario will get you into some fish." Sure enough, all together my friend and I caught 19 fish and missed at least 10(they would spit the hook). We had a great time! I would highly recommend floating down the Kalamath with Mario. FISH ON!! is all you'll say or hear when guiding with Mario. His knowledge of the river is surpassed by any other I've seen. Not only are his skills on point, but the boat is set up! I had a wonderful day on the Klamath fishing with Mario and came away with bragging rights for 5 nice-sized fish. I am a relative beginner and need a lot of guidance. My wife and I booked a steelhead fishing trip with Mario. What a treat that turned out to be. Mario was knowledgable, supportive and very patient in explaining a fish bite vs the line "bouncing" in the water. In short time, we learned from Mario how to tell when the fish was biting and set the hook . By the the end of the trip we must have caught at least 20+ fish per person! Came to Oregon to spend some time with my brother in law and his awesome wife. He had a trip booked with Mario and we did a float trip. Liked him as soon as I met him. Very patient with showing me the technique of bounce fishing. Kinda tricky. Got some steelhead to the boat. He has a skill of getting me to believe a rock is a fish. He is a very good teacher sharing his knowledge of fishing with two inexperienced fishermen,my wife had 3 hook ups and landed a beautiful 29 inch steelhead. His gear was top notch and he got you back in the water quickly. He was very patient and pleasant the whole day.
