Might have to say food was a 4, but service and staff made up for it, so 5 it is. Wife and I here…read morefor 25th Anniversary dinner, and honestly there are not many places to eat. Thought we'd try here and glad we did. First, all the staff was so nice and were working hard (pretty busy Saturday evening). Tenderloin is apparently the crown jewel, but we were looking to splurge a bit. My wife cannot eat very much, so we sometimes try to be creative, or end up with lots to take home. We are the epitome of surf (her) and turf (me) and there was steak and lobster on the menu. Asked our server Maddie if there was any way we could share it. Absolutely! So wife took the trip to the salad bar and lobster, while I had the steak and side (baked potato). Perfect quantities for us, and we so appreciated them accommodating! The nitty gritty: Limited but good salad bar. Lobster good, but prime rib definitely medium when medium rare was ordered. It was good, though, and they had real horseradish! Wine list very limited, and my glass, while very generous, tasted like it was not a fresh bottle but a re-cork. Not pricey though, so kind of a wash. The meal was probably a little on the pricey side for the area, but we were not unhappy. The staff saves the day, and our Maddie was a gem. Asked her a wine question, she admitted she didn't know but found out. Good on her, and she was so sweet, efficient, and accommodating. I would return and try a burger or tenderloin or maybe ribs (looked amazing).

Hashbrowns were ordered extra crispy but were not extra crispy in my opinion. Onion rings were pretty good but they had a lot of black pepper. My steak was not cooked to my request. The flavor tasted like it had a fake chemical smoke on it. The tenderloin saved the whole dinner. The fries tasted like they weren't cooked in hot enough grease. I would come back for the tenderloin. That is the only reason I gave it a 3. And I drove an hour to try this place.

What really stands out is that he genuinely listens to his customers. If something isn't quite right or you have a suggestion, Mr. Fox takes the time to hear you out and looks for ways to make things better. The Groggy Dog also does a great job keeping things interesting with its beer selection. The beers on tap are always changing, giving you a chance to try something different each time you visit. Whether you have a favorite or want to branch out and try something new, there's usually something worth checking out. I really appreciate that they don't just stick with the same lineup--they keep things fresh and give customers a reason to come back and see what's new. Between the great food, rotating beer selection, and the way Bob genuinely cares about his customers and his business, The Groggy Dog is the kind of place that feels less like a restaurant and more like a local gathering spot. You can tell there's a lot of pride and hard work behind what they do, and it shows.

Our food was amazing and the service was excellent! It was a beautifully mild September afternoon,…read moreand we decided to dine outside under a tent that was pitched in the restaurant's parking lot, near the entrance to the building. We were told to sit anywhere, and our server came by immediately to offer beverages. I ordered a michelada ($8) and it was the same awesome cerveza preparada that I'm used to enjoying back here at home at a few of my favorite Mexican restaurants. My friends ordered margaritas, and they looked similarly impressive, particularly a watermelon margarita. Its cloudy appearance looked to contain fresh watermelon puree instead of some weird watermelon liqueur, and it was adorned beautifully with fresh fruit. Dinner was outstanding. I enjoyed fish tacos ($11) for a lighter dinner, and they were served fresh, hot, and delicious. Besides sliced red cabbage, there was a condiment of pico de gallo that had some minced jalepeño, that was crunchy and super fresh, and topped with a creamy chipotle sauce. Absolutely perfect. Service was prompt and courteous, and while we were dining, staff came out to the tented patio to celebrate a few birthdays of other guests with joyful song, making the experience very festive. Prices were extremely reasonable, at least compared to where I'm from, the Twin Cities. The portion sizes were enormous. My friends had to request boxes to take home about 2/3 of their dinners. So normally an experience like this would warrant five stars! Well, our experience was slightly marred by waiting interminably for our server to collect our cards for payment. As it turns out, guests are expected to self-pay inside the restaurant at the counter. This requirement was not communicated to us, and I ended up walking in and out of the restaurant with a heap of paperwork to sort and pass out to everyone at my table to sign, then I had to return inside to give the pile of receipts and pens back to the cashier. This payment inconvenience is very inconsistent with the rest of the experience. It would never stop me from returning, obviously, because the food is so outstanding. But I may not remember to warn anyone of the unusual step of having to manually pay at a counter when the whole rest of the experience is full service.
