    Half order onion rings

Apprehensively walked in 30 minutes before close following a game. They told me to come in and sit. Everyone was helpful and friendly, from the bartender to the cook, to whom I'm guessing was the owner. The steak was cooked nicely and was seasoned well enough that no sauce was needed. I elected the fried potatoes as my starch option...these are nice thin slices and not the stupid cubes I've seen pop up recently at some establishments. You get a trip through the salad bar as well--it's small compared to the bigger ones at a place like Chicago Speakeasy, but there's plenty here to whet your appetite. I appreciate the dressings being in carafes vs bowls that eliminates cross-contamination. If you're a tenderloin fan, Ludlow's was runner-up for best tenderloin in the state last year. Highly recommend stopping if you're in this part of the state.

We came to Corydon to go to the Prairie Trails Museum and then come to Ludlow's for dinner. It seems pretty popular with the local crowd and our server Jessica was very nice. We had onion rings and cheese nuggets for appetizers. My son and I had tenderloin sandwiches and my wife had the philly cheese steak sandwich. The tenderloin was good but not the best I've ever had. The onion rings were tasty and the salad bar was fresh and had an adequate sampling of different items. The atmosphere was country casual / sports bar feel. Full bar. I was a bit surprised by the prices. I am from Maui and the prices were similar to back home rather than what I would expect in rural Iowa. Oh well, we like to support the local economy. Portions were hearty and we did not walk away hungry!

The bartender happened to be the granddaughter of the owner and great granddaughter of Patty her self. Everyone, staff and costumers were friendly and made us feel welcome. We didn't try the pizza but they looked pretty good. If you like a little bit of shit with your coffee it's one of their specialties. I highly recommend the Australian Rubber Nuts. They're not on the menu you have to ask for them. Enjoy

Patty's Back Door in Grand River IA is one example of what I am talking about. The owners of Patty's are incredibly easy going and welcoming. This is a straight-forward, nothing fancy bar with a single pool table and standard American beers (Bud, Coors, Miller, etc.). They have an incredible jukebox with anything and everything on it (which I loved!!). I cannot speak to the food (we did not eat), just the cheap beers and down to earth conversations with other guests and staff. As a bar, this establishment (we were told) has been around since the 1940s and with hospitality and simple small town charm like this, it is no wonder. Patty's made Grand River IA a memorable place to stop.
