My cousin and I walked in and we were greeted by Lexi, she is a fun loving person. She was tattooing at the moment so she said to come back. We don't mind because Schooners was down the block. She called us and we were on our way. She designed a beautiful tattoo for my cousin and I and we are super happy for the simple anchor and a small heart so she listened to what we were asking for. First tattoo ever and I chose a mid shop. Sorry guys but you were rude when I talked to you and gave me this weird attitude when I told another artist about the tattoo I wanted to get. I got a yin yang tattoo on my inner arm and I got rude vibes from the dude who tattooed me. I only tipped him out of fear that he would yell at me. Is this place worth it? Price-wise, it's okay, and as for proper tattoo care/aftercare, it was kinda just meh. They didn't tell me anything about proper aftercare or healing, they just kinda let me pay then leave. Experience-wise, I wouldn't really recommend this shop. Go to a store where they're actually nice to you. read more

If we could give Lexi and Orlando 10 stars we definitely would. This was 100% the best tattoo shop experience my wife and I have ever had. They were both warm and inviting and made us stoked to get our tattoos. Made us feel like we were part of the crew and like we have been homies for years. We both laughed so much. My cousin, his wife and I all came in as walk ins. We were greeted by Lexi who was amazingly sweet. We didn't end up getting work done because we felt the price was too high BUT my review is just for how lovely Lexi was. The designs she came back with were very beautiful, she was extremely kind when we said we weren't sure about price and when we finally came back with a no, she gave us cute stickers. Before I saw anyone for a consultation I was charged $100 which is fine I understand. I saw Orlando for 5 minutes went over my tattoo idea and he said he would have it ready in a week. Two months later nothing. Every time I would call him he said he would have it ready that weekend and nothing. I emailed, left a message with his assistant asking for a refund for service that were never provided. No response. I WOULD STAY CLEAR OF THE LOCATION BECAUSE THEY JUST TOOK MY MONEY WITH NO SERVICE PROVIDED. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ORLANDO AND HIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANYONE! THIS IS NOT THE WAY YOU DO BUSINESS. read more

We found Iron Crown Tattoo by chance, and what a find! The owner and artist Orlando was very accommodating as we were last minute in town for only 2 days. We had a design that we wanted and he tattooed it perfectly. His shop is super clean and professional. It was our first tattoo and he told us how to care for it and if we had any concerns to call or text him. If we decide to be wild and crazy again we would definitely use him. read more

The place was a bit hard to find but besides that, it all went great. Walk ins are welcomed, friendly and approachable staff. This wasn't my first tattoo and some places are stand off ish, not the case here. Very mellow vibe in this place & sanitary! I had the pleasure of having Jordan work on my piece for me, was a cover up & needless to say he did a great job. He was patient and has a light hand. I have several pieces of art on my body that Orlando has done. Every single one is flawless, and beautifully time consuming in its own right. Would I get another one from him? Yes. Unequivocally yes. The next time I'm In Monterey he is doing an old school navy tattoo in honor of my grandfather and uncle. I could go to places up here in eugene, they have amazing artists here as well. But they aren't Orlando. I don't know that they would allow my son to sit next to me and watch in fascination. I don't trust them. I trust Orlando. He is MY tattoo guy. And I will honor him by recommending everyone I know to go to him. He is one of the hardest working, well rounded, funny, caring, humans who have touch my body with a needle. 100% satisfied. read more

Nice shop! Was excited to get tattooed. Me and my girlfriend wanted to do a little something to celebrate our weekend out in Monterey, and ended up at Iron Crown. Called and got told to go in the shop and set up the details for a walk in appointment later that night. Was told to come back after our dinner and that they would get us in, if they couldn't get us in, someone would call us. Needless to say no one contacted us, and when we arrived to the shop after dinner there were several teenagers in a circle watching videos or something and apparently "they were too busy to call". I got ink #2 by Ryan 2/18/20. He absolutely captured the personality of my Yorkie Izzy in a head picture. He did an Izzy heart ink also, see my previous review. Once again, the shop was spotlessly clean and everyone friendly and outgoing. Ryan is the best I've ever found, I have 8 inks now and until Ryan, I have never used same artist twice. Ryan is the only artist for me in the future. 100% recommend him and the Iron Crown. read more

Kylee S You were late. It is that simple. At most businesses if someone is late to their appointment they loose their appointment and are charged for the visit anyways. I have many tattoos by Orlando. He works fast but not fast enough to do 3 tattoos in the 30 mins you claim you were late. So I am going to take a wild guess you were running later than you said. I have traveled from out of town to get tattooed by Orlando also. I was on time. He was already there waiting for me to arrive. Now for my review of Iron Crown and Orlando. This shop is the best. I have been tattooed at lots of different places but this place will always be my favorite as long as Orlando is there. He is a true professional. His craft is amazing. He can tattoo in so many different styles. He is constantly growing as an artist to make sure he can provide the best tattoo in any style for his clients. Now for his customer service. Seriously this guy puts up with so many crazy people thinking they are the Kardashian's when they walk in the door. I came to Iron Crown for my first tattoo last week on my birthday and what an amazing experience it was! Kelly, who created and gave me my tattoo, is such a beautiful person who not only I connected with on a deeper level, but felt so safe with and heard when expressing the ideas for my tattoo. I liked this joint. We came in right before closing and talked to them about what we were looking for and they were more than willing to work with it when others had reservations about size. Since it was late and we had our toddler we decided to come back the next day and set an appointment. When we came in the next the day they guy who was supposed to do the work was GONE for the day (losing points here). After giving him a call he came in in less than 15 so I wasn't too disappointed. Considering that we had hit up 3 different shops in the area, these folks were by far the friendliest and professional. read more

Here's what you'll get at Iron Crown Tattoo. - Great Artists - Friendly Service - A+ Cleanliness and Hygiene - Quality Work I've had quite a few tattoos done at Iron Crown with Orlando. He's an artist. His lines are clean and he's quick and detailed with his outlines. His shading is impeccable. Not only on my tattoos but also on some portait tattoos I've seen him finish. Orlando has the ability to take a concept you have in your mind and put it down on paper before inking. I've seen him take an idea a client brought in and in a few days draw an awesome version of what the client wanted. I've even explained what I've wanted and the end product surpassed what I expected. If you want a cheap "point to a picture on the wall" tattoo shop, this isn't the place for you. You get what you pay for with tattoos. World famous tattoo artists are booked months in advance, so that fact an artist as good as Orlando is able to get you in to the shop within days to weeks is above par. This shop is very clean as well. When you're dealing with tattoos that's a huge deal. I can't even count how many times Orlando has cleaned his work station and changed gloves just in one session. The work speaks for itself. I've never heard of anyone getting an Orlando/Iron Crown tattoo reworked or redone. He does it right the first time. Don't take my word for it. Ask around and see the work for yourself. read more

I travel all over the USA for my job with a golf company and I happened to wander down around the Monterrey peninsula and there are 3 shops around there and after investigation I wandered into Iron Crown Tattoo where I just started randomly having a conversation with Orlando, not knowing his story or that he owned the shop. I have had some other work done around the country and have had conversations with many artists and based on the book and the vibe I get from the artist is where I draw my conclusion of whether I want to get work done. He was super friendly from the get go and he had a true understanding of everything from sports, to art, to anything you'd want to know about. He was extremely professional and absolutely did a sick job of my idea of building onto my sleeve with "The Great Wave of Katsumi" I enjoyed the whole experience and you can't beat the view of the Pacific Ocean afterward. He just saved up enough money to get a new building from his old one and the guy deserves it. Congrats on the building and I love my work and so will you. read more

First timer experience. Went better than I possibly imagined, thanks to Orlando. I called the store asking about price range and appointments, the very next day I went in to make an appointment and he told me he could fit me in later that night. Really cool of him to fit me in so last minute- I was surprised! The tattoo came out perfect, and since it was my first tattoo I was so excited. And I'm not sure if it was Orlando or just the shop itself but I wasn't even nervous! I had gone to Gold Coast and one other place in the area in the past in search of a tattoo shop I liked, and both of them were just rude and not welcoming. I got a pelican tattooed on my foot Eli drew me up one I showed him two pictures to kind of put together a pelican that was sailor jerry traditional style. He showed it to me and tattooed my foot. I just found the exact same one on Instagram...just the one on Instagram is better and has a swallow like a pelican should. I wouldn't go back to him due to the fact that I like my tattooes to be unique and a good artist who has creativity and patience not just being lazy and google something "while your in the back drawing it up" and copy it. How lame... Kinda bummed because I have been wanting this rad pelican on my foot for so long just wish I could have found a better artist to put something together and make it one of a kind read more

So let me just start off by saying that I was beyond excited to get tattooed by Orlando or his wife. This was my first tattoo and I initially wanted his wife to do but she was unavailable. She however went out of her way to text her husband and set up an appointment for me. I never actually spoke with Orlando, but to him, through his wife. She even sent me a screen shot of him confirming our appointment date and time. I went ahead and dropped off my money to hold my appointment and she wrote down what I wanted and had even sent me a text confirming that he had "started to sketch it out." with all this said, I showed up to my appointment ready to go. Only to find the shop completely shut down and locked. I was early so I thought maybe he just wasn't here yet. I called the shop phone and his wife, and then waited 20 minutes after my appointment time and NOTHING. I thought maybe it was a miscommunication, it happens. Its okay. However only later, to get on Instagram and see him posting that he is "accepting walk ins all day." SOME FUCKED UP SHIT RIGHT THERE! I left multiple messages and NEVER RECEIVED a phone call back about it all . His wife never got back to me either. The next day I went in, to get my money back and Orlando had no clue about my appointment or anything. Which blows my mind, as a business owner how do you take someones money but NOT guarantee them the work that they are paying you for, WTF? FUCK IRON CROWN! HORRIBLE BUSINESS. This was my first tattoo, it was extremely special to me and this place completely burned me. I ended up going to a shop back home, and they were respectful and conducted business beautifully it was a great experience. I will never try to get tattooed at this place, or recommend it to anyone in the future. AWFUL, SAVE YOUR TIME AND DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I made my decision to get tattooed at the Iron Crown based on the excelloent ratings and reviews I read. This had to be one of the worst decisions I've ever made in my life and no this isn't my first tattoo, but my fifth. After three trips to the shop, I got my tattoo and Orlando did not give me the tattoo of the design we had agreed upon, but instead just did his own thing apparently and I regret to this day ever going there. I read in the posted reviews that he is light handed...HA! What a joke that is. He was so heavy handed that after getting home after an extremely long and painful sitting I was to discover to my horror that he had actually torn my skin in two seperate places and left punctures, actually holes which after a several months have not healed correctly. I know that a good tattoo is not cheap as I have four other good tattoos, but Orlandos price upon completion was astronomical. Yes, it is my mistake not to inquire a price from him before hand, but I didn't because of the reviews I had read. This tattoo was not a complicated piece and I should think that even beginer tatooers could have done a better job. So if $640.00 is cheap to you, then by all means go to see Orlando. A couple of my other tat's are more complicated and approximtely the same size and were done in about a third of the time it took Orlando. So, good luck to anybody who decides to go there and may your experience be much, much, bettet than mine. Oh, be sure to inquire about the price first and not rely on what some of the other reviews say. In case you were wondering why I didn't go to the other tatoo artists I've been to in the past is because one moved away, one is retired, and the other is now only part time and our schedules just don't coincide. read more

THE BEST PLACE, HANDS DOWN. I came to Monterey on a day trip to visit my friend for her 21st birthday and we decided to commemorate the event by getting tattoos. We found Iron Crown listed on Yelp and excellently reviewed, but the reviews came no where close to truly describing how magnificent this place and its artists truly are. My experience here was absolutely perfect from the moment I walked in. Orlando took care of my friend in myself and made us feel right at home, just like family. The shop is excellent, clean and polished, with a great atmosphere and excellent artists. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and I could not have asked for more! Orlando's line work is second to none, and my tattoo is a work of art. It was my very first tattoo, and now I cannot wait to expand on it. Orlando was relaxed and incredibly kind, calming my nerves and making me feel more comfortable than I can describe. Customer service at Iron Crown Tattoo CANNOT be surpassed. I am incredibly eager to return. Trust these artists, they are simply sensational and I cannot recommend them enough. Just a few weeks ago, my husband and I walked-in to Iron Crown Tattoo off the street for a consolation after unsuccessful visits with other local tattoo studios. My husband was looking to get his first tattoo ever in remembrance of his mother who just recently passed away. Orlando was not only welcoming, charismatic and incredibly professional in servicing us as walk-ins in his shop, but also gave expert suggestions to make my husband's tattoo one-of-a-kind. Knowing the sensitivity of the subject matter, Orlando took the time to craft a custom design and we were blown away by the sketch. As a first timer, Orlando was very attentive and did his best to make my husband feel as comfortable as possible (within reason). At this point, only the outline of the piece is completed, but we could not be more happy with the results thus far and are anxious to go back and finish. It is my personal opinion that Orlando has given my husband and I a gift that goes far beyond what money can buy. When I first started getting tattoos with Orlando I came to him with an idea of what I wanted and he sketched up something that was even better than what I had envisioned. He has such a talent for quickly creating such elaborate and unique ideas! Orlando has the lightest touch and makes the sometimes painful process of tattooing really easy. The tattoos he has done on me are still really fresh looking; they have healed really well. Orlando has been doing tattoos on me since 2007, and I am always very happy with his quality of work. His set up is very clean and professional and I appreciate his care and concern for his clients. I had lots of questions about the process and after care and he did not mind taking the time to explain things to me, he made me feel really comfortable when I was nervous. I don't think 5 stars is enough. Orlando is amazing, hands down. I went in for my fourth tattoo, and I had heard a lot about him so I wanted to give him a shot. I went in to set up an appointment and gave him my artwork, and came back a week later. It was a really intense, dark image that was going to take a lot of ink and a lot of work. He knocked it out like a boss, and it's seriously the best tattoo I've ever seen in my life. (Perhaps there's some bias there, but still, it's amazing.) He deserves any business that comes his way, and if he's too busy Cody's awesome too!!! He did my friend's tattoo while Orlando was busy with mine, and I've been tattooed from him before as well, and both of them are such amazing artists. Screw every other tattoo shop in Monterey, you want something good come here. read more

Orlando, the owner of Iron Crown, has done tattoos for both myself and my friend when he was at the other shop he worked for. I have never been happier with a tattoo artist, he made both of us feel comfortable and he listened to what we wanted. He was relaxed and joked with both myself and my friend, which served to provide a light atmosphere in which to get tattooed. Now that Orlando has his own shop, I will be going there to get tattoos done by him. He takes your ideas and puts his own spin on them while still giving you exactly what you want, which is exactly what a good tattoo artist should be doing. I had a tattoo I'd previously started finished by Orlando today and he did AMAZING! I had a photo of the type of shading that I wanted and a print out of the quote and font that I wanted and it turned out so beautiful. It was exactly what I wanted and more. The shop itself was nice and clean and everything was sterile so you don't have to worry about that. The staff was very friendly and funny and tried to make me as comfortable as possible. Orlando had a soft/light hand and was very patient with the placement I wanted and bringing my idea to life. At the age of 59, I was going to get my first tattoo and after a long buildup, I finally decided to go into Iron Crown and check the vibe of the shop. I felt comfortable here and liked what I saw in the portfolios. The staff here is awesome and it was obvious that I was in the right place. Since this was going to be a memorial piece, it had to be perfect. I arranged to meet with Orlando and have him sketch out my idea, which was spot-on. After two sessions, I am the very proud owner of a incredible piece of art, that exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Orlando has done two tattoos for me. His shop is super clean, everyone there is courteous, and I'm a big fan of his work. Super clean lines, excellent attention to detail and totally willing to work with you to get the look you want. Iron Crown has a relaxed atmosphere, and he goes out of his way to put his client at ease. I have a few tattoos from other shops, and can easily say that I have had my best overall experience with Orlando, hands down. I have told two friends who have told two friends and so forth (he even gave my 60 year old mom her first tattoo!) I would happily recommend him to anyone with ears and "ink fever." read more

Iron Crown Tattoo is definitly a refreshing new tattoo shop in the historic cannery row area of Monterey. I got my first tattoo done by Orlando and I must say he is very professional, very cool guy and makes you feel comfortable...his work is great, awesome detail and really gets what kind of work you want done! Ive gotten more work done by him and will continue to go back...I have also recommended him to alot of my coworkers and friends and they all have gotten work done by him and all haven been pleased by his stuff! You are only as good as where you come from. And when someone said "gold coast 2.0", they nailed it. Looks like they removed my review. Guess its just a way of censoring my opinion. Orlando was awesome! Did a big piece for me and my boyfriend and was completely professional. Even though this was my fifth tattoo I still have real high anxiety about needles. Orlando was really sensitive and cool with all my whining. He also drew up our tattoos from some pretty poor drawings and discriptions from us and freaking nailed it! The older gentleman working there did my tattoo. I brought in a reference photo and asked for very simple tattoos. Instead of using a stencil, he freehand drew the designs directly onto my hand. At first, I actually liked the drawing and thought it looked very close to what I wanted. However, once the tattooing started, the final result looked noticeably different from the drawing he had put on my skin. During the appointment, I noticed that some of the lines on the sparkles weren't done correctly and asked if they could be fixed. He did try to correct them, but one of the lines is still noticeably crooked. What makes this especially upsetting is that the tattoo is on my hand, which is a very visible area. I was too uncomfortable and embarrassed to keep speaking up during the appointment, but I left feeling disappointed with the outcome. It's frustrating because I specifically chose a simple design and provided a reference photo, yet the final result does not match what was originally drawn or what I expected. Now I'm left looking at something every day that I'm unhappy with and will likely have to pay to fix or cover up.
