My family's experience at IPoly has been very disappointing. The school relies heavily on group projects, but there seems to be little accountability when students do not contribute. Even when one or two students carry the entire workload, everyone receives the same grade. This creates an unfair academic environment and punishes students who are actually trying their best. There also appears to be lack of structured teaching. Much of the learning feels self-directed without enough instructions, guidance, or support from teachers. Students who need clear explanations or traditional teaching methods can easily fall behind. Another serious concern is the classroom climate in upper-grade history classes. My child felt uncomfortable and perceived unequal treatment and insensitive remarks that made the learning environment feel unwelcoming. A particularly troubling issue involved the history teacher, Mr Jon Aguado. Students reported instances where he would physically pull on a student's hoodie to get their attention. Regardless of intent, physical contact of this nature felt inappropriate and unprofessional in a classroom setting. What was most concerning was the perception that this behavior went unaddressed, leaving students feeling uncomfortable and unheard. In addition, students shared that he frequently asked about their personal lives and private matters unrelated to coursework, making students uncomfortable. Teachers should maintain clear professional boundaries so students feel safe and respected. In addition, the 11th grade history classroom environment sometimes included strong political opinions expressed by the teacher, Mr Navaroli. Students felt that openly expressed pro-Trump viewpoints created discomfort and made some students hesitant to participate in discussions. Classrooms should encourage balanced dialogue where students feel safe sharing ideas without feeling pressured or uneasy due to a teacher's personal political stance. Although students have complained about these two history teachers, the counselors and principal did not care. One incident that stood out involved students arriving early to class but still being marked tardy. Despite being physically present before instruction began, attendance was recorded in a way that did not reflect the reality, and concerns raised about the situation were not handled fairly. Don't send your kids there. Poor leadership and management. Inadequate learning facilities and non compassionate staff members. Your kids won't receive any help needed. Crazy junior year team project ( not all team members work but teachers don't care. One English teacher told my kid's team when they asked for guidance - Are you trying to ask me to pre-grade you ? ) and in addition tons of homework and tests with no guidance. Kids just working long hours into the wee hours in the am; always lack of sleep; another crazy senior individual project plus tons of work with no proper guidance. No AP. Poor college classes to choose from. In a nutshell, do not send your kids there. Your kid(s) is/ are expected to work on his/her own , as if he/ she is own teacher. The school is terrible and your child will only get the "College Prep Benefits" by having no life. Your child will have to constantly be taking classes at Mt sac and Calpoly while going to school here to qualify for those benefits. I know many students who went here and said it was the same education as any public school. The office people were rude and were more interested in finding out about my personal life than my education. The only people who care about the students are the teachers that do their best and succeed. It is a waste of time and money and your child will be just as well off if they go to any other public school. read more

I have sent two of my children to this school and I am not sure if I did the right thing by sending them here. They both had gone to a small private school for elementary and junior high and I thought they would do well at iPoly since it has way less students than the average high school and I thought the Young Scholar program that allowed them to take Cal Poly classes starting their junior year would be great for them. I also thought it would have more smart kids since there is an entrance exam to get in but that doesn't seem to be the case. The only advantage I have seen so far is that there are less students and there seems to be less conflict among the students than I think may take place at a regular public high school. In listening to my children tell me about their day at school, it seems the teachers don't teach anything or they teach topics that aren't even related to the subject they should be teaching. One of my children recently told me she learned about how global warming is not true in both her Chemistry class and her History class. What does that have to do with chemistry or history? I also heard that one of the math teachers last school year was having discussions about race and politics instead of teaching math. The same teacher also had a game in class called hot seat where you could ask a student in the hot seat about anything and they had to answer honestly. This teacher was suspended and eventually let go. Plus the math classes at this school are integrated so there is only one math class you can take each year. There are not different levels of math classes offered so my child was being taught math she had already learned in elementary and junior high the entire four years she attended this school. The Young Scholar program is a joke. The students have to find the Cal Poly classes they want to take and then seek out the professors to ask permission to take their class and majority of the time the professors were uncooperative and would say no. The counselor who processes the paperwork to Cal Poly for enrollment seems unorganized and messes up the paperwork a lot. Cal Poly does not seem to be cooperating with iPoly at all on this program. I thought that taking these college courses would be better than AP classes since iPoly does not offer AP classes but it didn't make a difference to the colleges that my child applied for and I think it's partly because my child's GPA was only 4.0 and not above like students who can take AP classes. She also didn't get to transfer any of the credits she earned at Cal Poly to the college she did end up going to so no gain there either. I especially do not recommend sending your child here if they want to pursue a STEM career. This school does not teach the level of science or math that is needed to get into a good STEM college. read more

As an alumnus of the school, I can say that my high school experience was great. I still remember my group projects and love the way the curriculum was project based. I am reminded of the quote from Albert Einstein, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." Ipoly understands that we learn in different ways and seeks to empower students to reach their best potential rather than limit them based on traditional standards. Ipoly is for the exceptional student looking for a different experience. I was always decent at academics, but thrived with hands-on projects. That's where I learned the most and, honestly, that's where real life happens anyways. If you are that student that people always said "you have so much potential" iPoly may be the way to help you realize it. If you are more rigid and prefer traditional methods, then iPoly is not for you. Also, you will not find better teachers than at iPoly. read more

My daughter is in her third year at ipoly and I can't say enough wonderful things about this school. The teachers are amazing and really care about each of the students. Although students have to apply and test to be accepted as a student, it is a public high school. The students are the best of the best and want to be there. The academics are rigorous and a lot of work, but worth it! read more

iPoly High School is a 500-student college prep school on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. It is run by Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). The curriculum centers on hands-on projects and presentations (known as Project-Based Learning), and encourages concurrent college enrollment at Cal Poly and surrounding community colleges. Students may live in any area and attend iPoly without District permission. However, there is an application and testing process students must go through. Students may apply as early as 8th grade to begin in 9th. High School applicants are encouraged to submit transcripts to determine eligibility prior to applying. Possibly the worst establishment of a school I have ever seen. The amount of work is absolutely up surd, and to always here about teachers not teaching or not explain things to the students is pathetic. They then have the nerve to assign work and projects about material that students have not even learned. The grading system is useless and completely barbaric, and the school thinks it is unique by doing this or providing a fine education system by doing so, well sorry you are wrong. The projects have usually no educational value to them. Unless the school believes stress on a teenagers life is a good learning objection? Or that the more work assigned equals a better education? Avoid this school as much as possible. Save your money for the long drive there, and save your child's high school experience. You will thank me. read more
