So my billing from May that I was unaware of went to collections even though they sent me an overpayment I made in September. I asked them why they would send me a refund if there was a balance owed. Internal office procedures on how services and billings are handled are problematic.

I have been driving approximately 2-2.5 hours each way from Omaha, Nebraska to this clinic for months. I've never had a problem with anyone in the office, always paid my bills, followed their recommendations, and have been a loyal patient. Last week, I missed an appointment because I was sick. Since the office is closed on Fridays and weekends, I called first thing Monday morning and explained the situation. I told them I was already on my way and simply wanted to know if there was any chance I could be worked in. I made it clear that I understood I did not have an appointment and was willing to wait in my vehicle for hours if necessary in case an opening became available. The front desk informed me that they could not guarantee I would be seen. I said I understood and asked if the doctor could call me back. When I arrived at the clinic, I was stunned to find police officers waiting for me. I was then informed that I was banned from the practice. I never threatened anyone. I never raised my voice. I never caused a disturbance. I never demanded treatment. I simply drove to the office and asked if there was any possibility of being worked in after missing an appointment because I was sick. After months of traveling hundreds of miles, spending thousands of dollars, and supporting this practice, being met by police officers and permanently banned was one of the most bizarre and humiliating experiences I have ever had as a customer of any business. If this is how a long-term patient is treated for asking to be worked in, prospective patients should be aware before choosing this clinic.

I called the office and was referred to Susan, who offered to walk me through the process over the phone. Still, I was not able to get access. Now, here is the very amazing thing. Sensing I was still frustrated, she offered to have me come in and she would help me step by step. I told her I'd be there in 10 minutes. She was actually waiting for me at the front desk when I arrived. This woman was incredible. She was so kind and patient and calm, which is exactly what I needed today. Susan was able to spot what the issue was, which allowed me to access my account. Problem solved. Susan didn't send me a link to click on or a toll free number to call. She just sat down and helped me. She didn't judge me. She didn't make excuses. She saw I had a problem and knew I needed her help. West Des Moines Ob/GYN is a world class medical practice of experienced doctors and nursing staff that has provided my medical care for over 20 years. I can't imagine going anywhere else. But, today, I needed Susan in billing.... and she really came through for me. I wish I could return the favor to her. Even though that was what I went in for - a growth coming out of my body that didn't feel right and wasn't always there. Not only did she not address it (again, the thing I literally went in for) but I think she just plain didn't see it. She instead minimized my concern and said I must be talking about something on the external part of my body, around my labia. I called the clinic 5 days later and spoke to Tina, who is the be-all-end-all at this clinic. She's the admin, the CFO, the CEO - aka, if you aren't happy with how she is treating you then too bad so sad. She continuously interrupted me and did NOT want to believe the patient; she offered zero resolution and zero compassion. I asked Tina to have Dr. Nicole Davis call me after she reviewed the photo I had to take of MY VAGINA and send it to them via the Klara app (something I never dreamed of having to do). They took no accountability for their lack of understanding what my concern was OR that during my exam, it was completely missed. They said I could come back for another exam and pay another copay, shocker. When Dr. Nicole Davis messaged me (even though I specifically asked for her to call me), I replied and asked her to confirm that she completely missed this. She replied stating "I may have seen it during your exam, but because it is a normal variation, I do not routinely discuss it with patients." Let me be very clear - this was only the SECOND time she had seen me. How is anything about our doctor/patient relationship routine?! I strongly recommend starting with Planned Parenthood to get treatment from those in the medical community who truly care about women. Then ask that physician who their OBGYN is, that's my plan. No way in hell am I coming back to this place. As if women don't deal with gaslighting enough in this world - I sure as shit don't need it from my OBGYN.

He was so very patient with me as I shared issues about my med history I wanted him to be aware of. Dr Samec is experienced, thoughtful and caring. Working closely with Dr Samec is PA Laurie Hughell. If you are seeking treatment for osteoporosis or rheumatoid arthritis, I recommend Dr Samec and Laurie Hughell. I have trusted my care to this office for 18 years.
