The breakfast area and offering were also great - we did breakfast there two mornings. The courtyard area is a nice bonus; they have games (large jenga, corn hole) that was great for kids. My one feedback would be I hope they add at least one USB-C charging ports to the rooms, I think that would be a good modernization touch. I didn't get time to visit it but I liked that the Valentine First Freedom Center and Monument was right there, celebrating the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom drafted right there in 1777. I'll have to check it out next time!

No employee was visible at the front desk, and the entrance buzzer went unanswered. When an employee eventually appeared, she suggested that I call or use my room key, even though I had not checked in and had no key. I was frustrated and initially speaking loudly, but I lowered my voice when asked. When I explained that my late arrival was caused by a delayed flight, she said it was "my fault" and asked whether it was her problem. After I told her she was treating me poorly, she responded, "No, you're treating me poorly. Leave. I'm not serving you." She later returned to the employee area and told me, "Go away. I'm not serving you." She then called the police while I was reporting the incident to Marriott Customer Care sitting in the hotel lobby. I made no threats, caused no damage, and entered no restricted area. I complied with the direction to leave and obtained alternate lodging with Marriott's help as I made and concluded the report in real time. Management later supported the refusal based on 'generalized safety concerns' but did not meaningfully address the employee's remarks, the failed late-arrival process, or whether security footage was reviewed. Corporate failed to conduct independent review merely preserving the property's decision. As a Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Platinum member who has traveled for decades and stayed at hundreds of hotels, I do not make this statement lightly. This was, by far, the worst hotel experience I have ever encountered.

The hallway was very funky smelling, it look dirty and I couldn't bring myself to stay there so I went to another Candlewood Suites on Tom Leonard Dr. in Richmond which was just as bad. I'm exhausted from traveling but I canceled the second day of my trip because I couldn't get another hotel room because of the holiday. I will be vacating these premises first thing in the morning. I pray I make it through the night. This is not a nice place to stay, if you are use to better. They don't even have ice machines here. Think twice about booking here.

The hotel charged my card 142.17 on 6/25! I called the hotel on 6/26 when I saw the pending charge and the hotel manger George Miller who was very matter of fact and rude stated "all hotels do this across the board to make sure the card is valid" I stated to him that's incorrect, why would my card be charged on 6/25 when I still have until 6/27 to cancel the room for free? George told me that I would have to cancel the room through the booking app and then a representative from booking.com would have to call him to cancel the room. I did just that and called booking.con the cancel the room and stayed on the phone on hold while he called the hotel the have the charge removed. Once the call ended with booking.com I called the hotel back and spoke with George again and he stated he took the authorization off. I asked for a corporate number and he says there is no corporate number very rudely on the phone, after asking him two more times he finally gives me the number to IHG. So today 7/3 the charge is no longer pending but now an actual charge. I spoke to my bank and they saw nothing coming back to the card. I call the hotel and George is not there so a young lady at the front desk stated it's showing as a charge and nothing was reversed or taken off. She stated she could not do a refund and that the manager George whom I spoke with will have to do the refund. So now we have a case of stealing money. DO NOT do business with this hotel, George Miller is stealing money and now I have an attorney involved. The funds are still not on the card.

As soon as the doors opened, I was instantly greeted by the amazing aroma of the hotel! It smelled phenomenal. The Front Desk Associate was very pleasant, reiterated my itinerary, informed me of the restaurant/bar hours and was able to answer all of my questions. The room was not only clean but very spacious. The bathroom was also a very nice size and they do offer room service for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a $5 charge. I headed to the bar after I dropped my things off and the bartender, Heather, was super sweet. She made a wonderful, spicy margarita and even offered me complimentary trail mix as I waited for my food. The Honey Sriracha Wings were absolutely delicious!!! Hands down, 10/10!!! There are several properties off I95, so they do have intense competition. The lot is very large and even when sold out there is room. A pet peeve is the amount of dirt from contractors that stay. The trash cans in front have maintained their boundaries. A big bonus is electric car hook ups. Property -built in September 2025. The hotel is maintained very well in spite of its heavy contractor use. The staff does a tremendous job keeping dirt and dust down considering. I did alert management on clean the stairwell with lots of contractor debris. Hotel amenities- Candlewood is an extended stay, so it has a full kitchen with supplies. I have utilized the supplies in the kitchen. Workout room is very nice, but will pick at it too since I'm a gym rat. Will breakout a separate. FREE Laundry on site. Coffee 24/7. Small store with drinks, snacks and toiletry items. Outdoor picnic and grilling area. Comfortable lobby with a huge big screen TV. Staff service - this is where they have shined. Front desk smiles, is eager to help. I have needed late checkouts and they accommodated me with my IHG status. Housekeeping staff overseen in the hall ways and elevator all have smiled. They do not offer an automated wake up call service. However, alarm clocks are in the room. Accommodations - Two room keys will be given to guest. One goes inside there. I've stayed in two room types a King and a Deluxe Suite. The rooms have a lot of thoughtful designs for business travelers. The kitchen is a prime example. The open closet is another that has an iron provided. There is plenty of drawer storage. Also a desk. Is present, but unsure if keeping this up. The two rooms were different on climate control. One had a wall and other window. The one would not drop past 68° and was not as comfortable as I would've enjoyed. Comfortable furnishings, especially the bed & pillows and quality liens. A in room safe was cool in my deluxe, but it did not work. Hot water inconsistent. Area convinces - There is a new Starbucks directly across the street in Rivers Bend. Also a Food Lion, liquor store and dry cleaners. Many more that are in the Rivers Bend Shopping Center. A Sheetz fueling station and CVS is walking distance. Exercise Room - one of the best weight and cardio rooms in a hotel I've experienced. They have a lot of varied equipment and I used it daily. The temps were kept cold which is perfect! It was also tidy with towels and wipe off cloths. However, I did bring some issues to the managements attention. The big screen tv was unplugged. They fixed that. One of the treadmills is out of order. None of the cardio machine have TV integration working. I like the news on when walking. A scale would be a nice to have. This is a property that I will continue to use and recommend.
