So far, our experience with Intown has been just fantastic. We were referred to these kind ladies through many close friends and it couldn't be a better fit for what we would like with our first kiddo on the way. The best news is that the office is attached to AMC and is less than a mile from our residence. That definitely sweetened the deal for us, too. The team at Intown is awesome. They do an amazing job of balancing incoming families and make everyone feel so welcome. Their team is made up of five different practitioners and each visit is with a different midwife. They are all very kind and have different personalities, but their level of professionalism is all the same. Huge high-five to Lindley who made us feel really comfortable on our first visit. She was just the best. So far, we've only visited twice and my wife had her labs done, general checkup, heard our baby's heartbeat, and we have also done a few of the group discussions. The group sessions are really nice and can give some great insight. For us, they have been really cool and comforting with this being our first go at bringing another human into the world. I delivered with Intown in mid October (6 weeks ago) and am still raving about my experience. Everyone in the whole practice is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and made my pregnancy appointments so much more than just another trip to the doctor, especially when they became weekly. Ashlee and Nicole are both incredible midwives and having Ashlee by my side in the hospital changed the whole stay for me. She was the constant calm in the storm and lobbied on my behalf when I needed her. I truly can not recommend Intown enough. read more

Don't waste your time with InTown Midwifery. Their medical advice, human decency, and adherence to the law are subpar at best. When I questioned how their policies accommodated ADA requirements (an anti-discrimination LAW) Barbara from the front desk said, "We don't follow that." You don't follow the law?! Ridiculous. This also directly contradicts the CDC guidelines that they claim to follow. Here's a direct quote: "For people who cannot wear or safely wear a mask because of a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) (42 U.S.C. 12101 et seq.), consider reasonable accommodation for workers who are not fully vaccinated, who are unable to wear a mask, or who have difficulty wearing certain types of masks because of a disability." Let me start by saying that I have never written a negative review in my life. Usually if I have a bad experience, I avoid the establishment and I move on but my experience with intown midwifery has been so disturbing that I felt the need to write. Long story short, I had my first appointment with them on 9/30 at 11 weeks pregnancy. I got a call a week later that my labs came back abnormal and I tested positive for an incurable STD. I have been in a monogamous marriage for 7 years so I was skeptical about what they were telling me. I also had labs done in April for a pregnancy that unfortunately ended in a miscarriage and my labs then were all normal. They ordered a retest at a lab Corp next to where I live to confirm the results. The retest came back negative- everything normal. I met with Dr. James (who by the way I found to be very cold and not knowledgeable) to go over the results and she wanted me to get a third test at a different facility. She referred me to the county health department. I got a comprehensive and detailed lab exam at the health center and those results came back negative as well- everything normal. The entire process of getting tested and re-retested three times took about a month. Imagine being pregnant months after a miscarriage, being told you have an incurable disease, and waiting a month to be finally 'cleared'. I have been a nervous wreck, my anxiety was through the roof, and the whole time I'm trying to remain as calm as possible so I don't endanger my baby with my stress. I have concluded that they must have mixed up my blood tubes with someone else's at the office. When the lady in the office drew my blood, she threw the tubes on the counter, without a label. I noticed a couple of other tubes on the counter as well. On top of this debacle, both times I have gone for my appointment, I have waited at least an hour after being called to the back. Both times, someone has come into the room where I'm waiting and asked, 'no one has been here to see you yet?'. It's almost like they forgot about me each time. Everyone seems so disorganized. The only reason I came here was because I wanted a natural water birth. The midwife at my first visit informed me that most people don't even end up having the water birth because they sometimes don't have the manpower to assist in the water birth, or people don't make it on time to be able to wait for the pool to be filled up. I have reached out to my previous obstetrician, who delivered my two boys (aged 6 and 2) without incident and I am hoping they can still take me in this late into my pregnancy because at this point I don't feel confident continuing my care with Intown Midwifery. The only positive thing I can say about them is that they seem nice and friendly but unfortunately friendliness doesn't make up for the lack of competence. read more

First off, I'd like to say that the OB/GYN who works with Intown Midwifery, SeeBaby, is an admirable practice. Dr. Brad Bootstaylor knows his stuff, and with him we were completely happy. Also, Atlanta Medical Center did a supurb job with our delivery and our son's critical care. The nurses, doctors and anesthesiologists were respectful, perceptive and kind from beginning to end. In all honesty, Intown Midwifery did a fairly good job, too, leading up to and including the delivery, with a few kinks. It was afterwards that they dropped the ball. Specifically, they did not execute our son's circumcision well or even according to their own contract, and then they ignored our request to correct their error. I'll get to that in a minute. Before the delivery we noticed a few customer service issues. First of all, who out there likes to have the new midwife in the practice 'trained' on them? It really made us feel less than special, and to make things worse, the rookie didn't have good listening skills and was often arrogant, impatient and cold. Secondly, the wait times were long and we often got stuck in 5 o'clock traffic for a 2 o'clock appointment. Furthermore, the practice did not bill our insurance properly, causing headaches months after the fact. These are both signs of unprofessionalism, disorganization and sloth on the part of the practice. In fact, one test they charged us for was never even performed. But these are all three star complaints. Now for the real reason we've given Intown one star. Intown offered to do our son's circumcision, saying that they would use anesthesia. We agreed, and a week or so after the delivery we brought our son to be circumcised. We signed a contract that stated only Margaret would perform the circumcision, as she was (at the time) the only person in the practice qualified by the State of Georgia to do so. As it turned out, Linda performed the circumcision. We were kicked out of the room in which they circumcised our son, and when they brought him out to us, he had what looked to be a small blister on his torso that we were told was due to his diaper being too tight. Later that night, the circular-shaped blister turned bright red, looking more like a burn. Five days later, the Plastibell fell off of our son's penis, revealing a strip of skin still linking the foreskin to the shaft. Concerned, we asked our pediatrician about it and he referred us to a pediatric urologist. We took our son to the pediatric urologist who confirmed that the surgery had not been performed well and that our son might need corrective surgery (to be determined upon his first birthday). He also confirmed that there was absolutely no way the burn was due to an overly tight diaper, but more likely resulted from a carelessly affixed clamp during the circumcision procedure itself. We approached Margaret at Intown Midwifery with these findings, asking that if our son did require surgery, Intown would cover the associated medical expenses. We did not demand damages beyond these expenses, as we are not like that. We simply wanted the error corrected (if need be) as an act of good faith towards us, their client. The reaction from Margaret was tight-lipped and evasive; she claimed that we were apprised of the risks at the time we signed the contract, and thus had no recourse. We replied that since she herself did not perform the actual surgery as prescribed in the contract, it had already been voided the minute Linda performed the procedure. Margaret changed course and said they would consider our request for reparation and get back to us. It has been over two months and we haven't heard anything from Margaret. We have been trying to get in touch with her without success. We are preparing to meet with legal counsel to consider our options. All we really want is for Intown to correct their mistake, as any honest business would do for an unhappy client. Instead, they have chosen to stonewall and shift blame away from themselves, hoping we will just give up and forget about it. Every time we change our son's diaper we are sadly reminded of the poor decision to switch to Intown Midwifery from our more traditional OB/GYN. We wanted to have a more patient-focused natural birth and we ended up with a headache. Intown Midwifery is great on marketing and low on performance, which is a shame, as the idea of a midwife-driven practice is solid. Save yourself the headache, bypass Intown Midwifery and go directly to Dr. Bootstaylor and his excellent practice, SeeBaby. read more

I can't even begin to cover how much we enjoyed our birthing experience with Intown Midwifery. They explained from the beginning that you might not have the same midwife for everything. The staff has been absolutely amazing from the start of the pregnancy to birth. Dr. James was very informative through the whole process and the midwives.. they are complete Rockstars!! I left Intown Midwifery after my initial review on 10/29/11. SHADY business practices and I would not support this practice or their midwives going forward. I will keep my initial review below, but personally would NOT go there for any care nor recc them to friends/family. Dr Bootstaylor (Dr. BT) is a professional perinatologist that is a contracted doctor for Intown Midwifery as a delivering doctor. In my labor experience with Dr. BT, not only did he gash my bladder during c-section, but he left incisional holes in my stomach from his botched c-section that was not found until two weeks later! I had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery due to a strangulated hernia with a foot and a half of my intestines protruding through the holes (a direct result of his incisional holes) . Presently, I have ongoing persistent pain at the surgery site in my lower stomach. Pain level ranges from 4-8 (on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst) depending on the day. Ongoing visits to the doctor for this pain with no resolution. 1. Loss of work for husband who had to care for me for months. Husband had just started new job and had to leave abruptly to care for me 2. More than fifty percent blood loss in my body during csec surgery and bladder repair. Dr. BT did not formally or properly inform me that I lost more than 50% of blood in my body and was discharged from hospital with no course of action and without "knowing" that I had that much blood loss. 3. I was informed by urologist that he guided Dr. BT via phone and was not actually in operating room to assist or lead in repairing bladder. Due to Dr's inexperience in delivering babies via c-section and urologist not present, Dr BT repaired the bladder but missed the incisional holes quickly closing me back up because of the rapid blood loss. He did not have the presence of professional support! I went to his office for a followup appointment alerting him that something was very wrong because of the growing pain and the growing bulge in my abdomen. He looked VERY nervous and fearful, but had no resolution for me and my family. 4. Misuse of forceps resulting in possible permanent damage to my baby's right eye. This is VERY stressful and emotional for me DAILY! 5. Wrongfully prescribed 4x(!!!) the maximum allowed dosage of medication. Pharmacist insisted that I could have had liver damage had I followed the orders of the Dr.'s prescriptions In closing I have digital images of my internal trauma. These pictures were taken by the repairing doctor BEFORE he actually repaired the damage! The images clearly show the incisional holes and the intestines protruding through it. read more

We really wanted to love our experience with Intown Midwifery, but they made that very difficult. Some of the midwives are knowledgeable, patient and caring, while others are NOT! We wished we could have handpicked the midwives that we could work with, but due to their group practice structure that was not possible. Unfortunately for delivery we got one of the latter midwives and we felt like we paid for it. She was not tentative, particularly on our arrival, and delayed important steps, like the tub and antibiotics (due to Strep B) pushing us from our intended tub birth. She smelled of body odor and was a bit snooty as well. Further, they tend to be a bit unprofessional in seeing their patients in a timely manner. We typically had to wait 1-1.5 hrs to be seen, despite them having an empty waiting room. One time they left us in a patient room after checking us in for 45 minutes, after which I had to roam the halls and find someone to attend to us (they completely forgot we were in there and were chatting amongst themselves in a separate room). Wish we would have picked another doctor or midwife....... read more

Initially I was referred to this practice by two RNs that both delivered babies with them. Truth be told, they could not have been more positive about their experiences but I quickly discovered that this was not to be for us. (For the record, this baby is my third. The first delivered by midwife in another state. The second baby I saw midwives but was delivered by an OB because I had a section.) The practice has hired a new "business manager" and a slew of new midwives. The new "business manager" not only doesn't fit in with the midwife model as a whole but is aggressive and hostile and gave me my first bad impression of the service. The front office staff is equally unimpressive, unprofessional and inspires little confidence. Next up, the midwives: Most mothers will say something like "Anjli and Margaret are amazing!" However, I glanced at the calendar on my way out the door: both of them have reduced their hours to basically deliveries and one 4 hour block a week at the office. You will meet the other midwives, as did I and they are NOT awesome. The midwife my appointment was with was new to the practice and could not tell me ANYTHING about delivering at AMC except that the one thing I did want (intermittent monitoring) I could not have and if I really felt that way, well then, I should just homebirth. And NO, they wouldn't follow me in the office if I chose to homebirth because its a "liability risk" for them. Isn't that special? Naturally, I didn't bother keeping my next appointment and I would never recommend that practice to another mother or any other RN I know (I am an RN). read more

If I could give this place a negative rating I would! This was the most horrible medical experience I've had in my life and this happened about 4 years ago. That's how traumatic the experience was. This place is ONLY ok if you would've had an easy pregnancy already. If you have any complications they are not in the correct mindset or qualified enough to support you. During my consultation and birth plan, in writing as well, I specifically stated if I was in labor and not dilating after 12 hours or so I was ok with an epidural. Fast forward to my labor. I had very bad back labor and once that happened no one knew how to truly help me with that. Back labor and regular labor are a horrid combo. By hour 15 with no further Dilation and no drugs I requested an epidural and told NO! The nurse Kept coming in placing the stethoscope on my stomach every other minute triggering even MORE contractions every single time. Nurse you have every wire hooked up and can read my baby as well. I am in excruciating pain and my body is exhausted please stop exacerbating an exhausted body THAT CANNOT BE GOOD FOR THE BABY. I began sobbing and crying at hour 20 with no drugs and no dilation. I began pleading for an epidural. They gave me something else that lasted about 45. I asked them to do it again they told me they can only administer it once! We'll get me the epidural I asked for. I told the midwife- well screaming and crying at the same time-that my body is stressed and I cannot have the baby with my body stress levels this way I needed the epidural to have the baby! You would think a midwife would respect the moms wishes correct? Absolutely not, she did just as a doctor would and ignored me. By hour 22, after screaming and crying so the whole floor could hear me and no progression, my mom demanded they give me an epidural and could not understand why "you're letting her suffer like this". So she reluctantly called the anesthesiologist. Guess what, only one on staff for THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL! He was in surgery for two more hours. Hour 24, the anesthesiologist took one look at me and I could see the sorrow on this mans face. I could tell he felt so bad for me. After the epidural, literally I fully dilated in 30 minutes and pushed the baby out in the last 30 min. Just like I told the midwife! I won't even go into the rest of the awfulness after my beautiful baby was born. Let's just say no one told me I was supposed to take ibuprofen or Advil for pain after childbirth so I had no clue my body wasn't supposed to be hurting like this UNTIL THE PEDIATRICIAN TOLD ME I NEEDED SOMETHING days later when she saw I was in pain. Thankfully I have my beautiful baby and I'm a generally healthy person. So I made it through. I cringe to imagine what would've happened if I had any underlying health conditions I wasn't aware of! Between Atlanta medical and intown, if you have complications you are putting your health and your babies health at risk. Mothers beware! read more

I had high hopes for Intown since a beloved midwife I had before I moved to Atlanta from Savannah once worked here. But, unfortunately I had a terrible experience. I came for a check-up/ problem visit. I had to bring my son since I had no one to watch him. Parking was confusing. I had never been to this building before and there were no signs that said where to park so ended up parking in a lot farther away. It was fine. I knew to ask for the next time I visited. Then, I arrive and greeted by a very friendly receptionist. And noticed there's a great children's room off to the side where there's blocks and a train table...This is the only thing I enjoyed about my experience. So after I waited 45 minutes to be called back for blood pressure and urine sample. I ask if it's going to take much longer because toddler was beginning to get antsy. So, they send me back to my room. I wait another 30 minutes in the room. They send me back to the waiting room for another 20 minutes because the doctors "busy". When the doctor finally arrives. Dr. Grant. She asks me rutine questions. I tell her what's bothering me. She doesn't try to answer any of my questions or concerns. And proceeds to get irritated asking me why I had to have an emergency c-section. Asking me if it was "really an emergency". I couldn't believe her bed side manor. So, then she asks me to remove my pants and she'd be right back. I wait 20 mins before I went out into the hall with a sheet wrapped around me to ask someone where my doctor went. The nurses seemed embarrased. She FORGOT ABOUT ME. She finally comes in. Does whatever. And tells me that she will take my blood to check my thyroid levels and wants me to schedule a visit to come back in for the results. No. You can call a patient and let them know thyroid results. I'm not recommending Intown to anyone. Most awful experience. I felt like I didn't matter. Like I wasn't important. I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. read more

We chose Intown for prenatal care based on the enthusiastic recommendations of several friends. Intown is known for providing evidence-based care and for being the kind of practice that empowers women to have the birthing experience of their choosing. Since it was my first pregnancy, the Mr and I had lots of apprehension about pregnancy in general. The midwives and staff at Intown were gracious, understanding and encouraging of us and our venture into parenthood. I really looked forward to our appointments and the 3 group meetings with other expecting parents. I always felt educated and supported. The labor and delivery portion of my experience was also very empowering. The midwives on call during my time on the hospital were really laid back and encouraging as things progressed. I never felt like a decision was being made for me; instead I felt fully in the loop and supported through the whole process, especially right when our son was born. Later, while I was in recovery, multiple midwives stopped by to check in on us, including Margaret Strickhouser, founding midwife of the practice. I can't say enough good things about Intown and will definitely refer anyone to them. read more

I made an attempt to switch to Intown Midwifery at 32 weeks into my pregnancy, but, apparently, there were some "issues" with my medical records from my outgoing OBGYN. I made this appointment a week and a day prior to this "problem", and I was told that they would take care of everything, and then suddenly, I get a phone call the morning of my appointment telling me they had to cancel. They claim that my OBGYN failed to fax over my medical records, I called my OB, and they claim they had indeed faxed them over and even supplied me with a confirmation #. I don't know who dropped the ball because I'm getting conflicting stories from each side, BUT I CANNOT trust a medical care provider who cancels an appointment 2 hours before I'm scheduled to meet them. Period! I understand we live in a litigious age, and everyone needs to cover their behinds, but jeezzz, this was handled very poorly. They really should have called me a day or two prior to my appointment telling me there was a problem so we can fix it before my appointment was put on the chopping block. I really question the reason behind the cancellation because it was handled so poorly. read more

I saw the lovely midwives at Intown Midwifery throughout my pregnancy, and they are fantastic. I did *not* end up delivering with Intown because I chose to have a homebirth, and I had another awesome midwife for that momentous event. But Intown was my backup care in case I changed my mind about the homebirth or needed to deliver at the hospital instead. Pros: very flexible, woman-centered care. Don't want the gestational diabetes test? No problem, you can request a random glucose test. Want a waterbirth? Go for it! (If you meet the Atlanta Medical Center requirements, of course). They listen to the kind of birth and care you want and really try to make that happen for you. They have now increased the staff so wait times aren't crazy... they have 2 office-only midwives, and 4 who deliver, too. Cons: Parking kinds sucks. Not a fan of AMC. Labor and delivery rooms are really small (but the bathrooms are nice!). Again, I didn't give birth there but I did take a tour of the hospital. Basically, if you want compassionate care, if you want to feel empowered during your pregnancy and birth, and if you hope for a limited-intervention and/or water birth, but still want to be in a hospital setting, this is your best bet. read more

I think I've found the right ob/gyn and it feels awesome! I recommend Intown Midwifery to everyone. Ask around: Margaret Strickhouser, who helped open the practice, is a rock star amongst ATL midwives. She's the old-school kind of midwife - the real deal- who focuses on trusting her patients to know their bodies instead of being a toady for an ob/gyn who will still opt for a C-section any second they get (like most new "midwives" today). The wait time at Intown Midwifery was a little pokey and I was peeved on my first visit. However, when it was my turn to meet my midwife, she was so thorough that my impatience felt ridiculous. I never felt rushed in my appointment. I never felt "talked down to" by my midwife. I never felt silly for asking too many questions about my body. My midwife was tremendous and I truly feel that she listened to my concerns (imagine that!). Does it sound like I come to an ob/gyn with some baggage? Um, yeah, I totally do. I've unearthed some of the worst ob/gyns in the region. There's plenty of pompous, arrogant doctors out there with a "you can trust me, I'M the doctor here" mentality. It makes me sad that many women give away their power to their ob/gyns. Anyhoo- off my soapbox and let me finish my review: the surgeon associated with the practice is Dr.Bootstaylor, and while I'm sticking to the midwives, if need be, I trust that he's not interested in making my birth experience a choppin' shop (also unlike many ob/gyns I've encountered in ATL). From what I found when I did my research, he's been interviewed on 20/20, trying to get the maternal birth death rates down (heck yeah!). So, with all these factors, I'm feeling pretty confident about going here. read more

Had my baby here and loved it. The practice is different from a typical OB practice. From reviews here, it is clear that some people consider that unprofessional, but I consider it refreshing. I switched at around 30 weeks, delivered at AMC, and use them for well-woman care as well. I will use them for any future babies too. My favorite parts? I can bring my son to appointments and he is welcomed! I am supported in my decisions (I am one of the 10% that ended up with an epidural). I actually miss visiting the practice as frequently now that I had my baby! They care about both the emotional and physical parts of becoming a mother. So is it different, yes, but that is what I wanted and I love what I got. read more

My husband and I made the mistake of going to Intown Midwifery for our first prenatal appointment and checkup. First of all, they are impossible to get on the phone. They've got a ridiculous answering service that constantly says they're at lunch (no matter what time of day it is), and they routinely don't call back when you leave a message. I was really sick one day, and my husband called 9 times trying to reach the midwife on call and find out what kind of medicine would be safe to take. During our actual appointment, the midwife had an ok bedside manner. She seemed defensive when we mentioned how frustrating it had been to get them on the phone, and said they're trying to change that. She also didn't seem terribly educated about the tests they'd be administering, and couldn't answer all of my questions. Intown Midwifery never told us anything about my health during or after that appointment. They didn't give us the results of a single test. If we had anything to worry about, they said, they'd call. They never did. BUT, weeks later, when we had the results of our tests sent from Intown to our current midwife, she asked, "Did you know that your Vitamin D levels are low?" No. Because Intown Midwifery never told me. We had some confusion with our bill ($1400, the laboratory claimed we owed them) which almost wasn't covered by our insurance, even though they said it would be. But in the end (after some calls and emails to the office), it was. Thankfully. I still wouldn't recommend Intown to other women, but I've improved their rating because they worked with me on the billing issue, and did so rather quickly. In general, I think they've got a long way to go before I'd recommend their services at such a sensitive time in the life of a family... read more

We've had two babies now with Intown and know all the staff very well. We had some very serious complications during the first and were very impressed with Dr. James who handled the situation very well. Our daughter who was just born a week ago was a very different experience. From the beginning we felt comfortable with the practice as they knew our history. They were very supportive of our VBAC plans yet had a MFM on the Telehealth program for us- Dr. Patterson. As a GT alum and former engineer we felt very comfortable with her watching over everything. We got a good mixture of seeing Dr. James and Margaret in the office throughout the pregnancy and of course felt very comfortable with both. They took our concerns seriously and honestly they just rock at what they do. They even caught a breach position early and referred me to a massage therapist and chiropractor early enough to correct the problem in a week. The delivery ended up being a successful VBAC with Michelle who was absolutely amazing and on top of her game.. she has a great relationship with AMC and you feel very safe in her hands. Dr. James was monitoring and there throughout and again the level of care was very reassuring. The practice is perfect for those looking for sensible care and want to go down the natural path as much as possible, but I'm also proof they can handle high risk emergency type scenarios as well. Couldn't recommend them more. The office staff have also been more than helpful and answer emails/calls/requests super fast. Usually no waiting long periods and they work with you to make things happen around your schedule. read more

I'm begging any mother do not go to this location. As I write this I'm sitting in a pile of confusion due to miscommunication and no one is willing to help. From the start of my pregnancy and visit I feel like I was always begging Jackie to listen to what my request were. She kept thinking I just wanted to be out of work when that was not the case. Fast forward to Dec 16th I had an appointment. I spoke to midwife Ashley about how I was feeling , she noted it for me to speak with Doctor James. I spoke to Doctor James about going on leave early because I was completely exhausted and my body felt like I was breaking down. We went over my weeks and how far along I was. She said it was ok and she will have Jackie fill out the paperwork once it was sent by my job. On the 21st my baby wasn't moving and I was concerned. I called the midwife and was told to come in. After doing an ultrasound they discovered my fluids were low and we had to induce my labor. (Explains my cry of how my body was feeling, but no one pays attention the cries of a pregnant woman) . After being butchered because I had to have an emergency c section I am now dealing with Jackie and her bullshit about Doctor James never said she would pull me from work and that they cannot support my request for the days I didn't go to work. I requested to speak with Doctor James to go over the conversation we had on dec 16th and have yet to hear from her. Basically Jackie is claim that Doctor James and I never had that conversation which is a lie! What a way to risk someone's job . This whole thing is a complete nightmare. read more

I love the midwives at Intown. Anjli helped deliver my daughter in April 2011. We had an unmedicated waterbirth. I loved the entire pregnancy care process, from the Initial meet and greet, the check ups, the visits when I was sick with a cold, the ultrasounds at see baby, Everything was great. If I had to give any complaints, it'd be that the front office staff was sometimes unprofessional. But there was a receptionist named lily that was awesome and made up for the other bad workers. read more

We enjoyed Intown Midwifery, I didn't start with them but ended up with them during my pregnancy. I was looking for someone who encouraged water birth and this was one of my main reasons for wanting to work with them. Everyone was very pleasant and informative. I liked that I never felt rushed and there was never too many questions that I couldn't ask, they encouraged me to ask them. The 2 things that stood out in my mind was billing, if someone calls to remind me about an appointment, I should know what I owe before I arrive. Again, we started with them later but me coming in and saying, your bill is 700 today was alot for me in one day, even if it is part of my deductible for insurance. The other thing, I was seeing a doctor for several appointments and she wouldn't be the one to deliver my baby. While she was awesome, why did I see her so much if she didn't do deliveries. There are 4 midwives that deliver and ofcourse I'd only met 3, the 4th one was the one who delivered my baby. She got me through it but it would have been nice to see a familiar face. read more

I cannot begin to say how pleased I am that Intown Midwifery are available to the ladies of Atlanta. (For those who don't know they are pioneering the Atlanta Birth Center.) In my community most of the moms have sought natural childbirth and have been cared for by the ladies at Intown Midwifery. I'm not just talking about 1 or 2 moms, I mean 10's of moms I know, who are happy with their experience. I had my daughter with them in Dec 2010 and am due to have my twins with them in Sept 2012. In all honesty, past office staff may not have been particularly personable, but as it stands today every person I've met is lovely and professional. And yes, wait times have been very long in the past, but it's always felt worth the wait, because you are never hurried out of your own appointment. (My past two visits I haven't had to wait at all though.) They are busy, because they are popular, and spend time listening! I have also been seen by a trainee (as one reviewer mentioned) but I was asked, 'Is this okay, or would you like to see someone else today?' There are now 7 midwives in the practice, there were 2 when I began going. I have met all of them, and I can truthfully say that I would be lucky to have any one of them deliver my babies. They do make sure that you get to meet everyone during your office visits. (Of course this may be different if you join later in pregnancy.) As others have said, Dr. Bootstaylor is wonderful. You might only see him for your ultrasound with a singleton birth, but he's the back up doctor for all the midwives. AMC does have small rooms and terrible food, but the nurses were nice, and at the end of the day they are the only place in the city where you can have a water birth. Also because this is the only hospital Intown Midwifery works with, AMC is used to having natural mamas there. I.e. I did not want an IV port in the hand, or to wear a hospital gown, or for my child to be taken out the room, or for continual monitoring, or for baby to get shots and eye drops, or for a pacifier to be given to her ... and because they are used to this from IM patients they respect it and don't question you ... which is HUGE! So, 18 months ago I had a wonderful labor and delivery at AMC, with a midwife from IM. After taking birthing classes I had this vision of how I wanted my birth to go. My birth plan was respected, not questioned, and most importantly realized. And now I can look forward to having my twins with them. I began my first pregnancy at a different OB/GYN office. I never felt like I could ask questions about natural birth without feeling awkward or looked at like I was crazy. ALL TO SAY ... If you live in Atlanta, and you want a natural birth, or you just want your voice to be heard ... Intown Midwifery is the group to go with. I have had one positive and one negative experience with Intown Midwifery. The positive- My first pregnancy was textbook normal and I had a wonderful experience. I never had to wait long for appointments, I felt like the midwives took time to answer my questions. My birth experience had no issues, and Janet caught my son and was a great help in getting started with breastfeeding. I was already prepared for AMC to not be the best hospital- the facilities are not great, but I knew that going into it. However, the AMC nurses were great and I was able to labor in the tub & shower. Recovery was slow but I felt supported along the way. The negative- After having a good first experience, I was excited to book my first appointment with IM for my second pregnancy. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and IM handled it very badly. I had to go get an ultrasound at AMC because they do not have one in the office- this was a mess of being the middle person between IM and AMC, with confusion on both sides. IM never called me back about the ultrasound, I had to call them to find out the results. It was suspected that I was having a miscarriage, but Dr. James said nothing to prepare me in the instance that I may have a miscarriage. I ended up miscarrying over the weekend, completely unprepared for it. In order to get in touch with someone at the office, you have to go through AMC's hospital paging system, which is difficult when you're going through a miscarriage and they're asking if your baby is breech or if I'm having twins. There needs to be a more direct way to get in touch with someone. I finally got a midwife's attention at a follow-up appointment (which, when I showed up for that appt they had no idea why I was there). I got answers but it felt like too little too late, like I had to be obnoxious to receive proper care. The final straw for me was that I am a negative blood type, which requires a Rhogam shot within 72 hours after a miscarriage or my body will reject future pregnancies. I caught this and asked them to do it- they did not suggest this. It was very frustrating to go through the tough experience of a miscarriage and also have to advocate for proper care throughout the process. I believe that this practice is great when everything is textbook normal. When it's not, it seems like no one knows what they are doing, there was a lack of communication, and the whole experience felt very cold like no one cared. I will be shopping around for another midwife group after my miscarriage experience there. read more

I wish I could give 10 stars because I can't thank them enough for an amazing VBAC experience of giving water birth to my darling daughter !! Intown Midwifery has the best! I came to Intown Midwifery when I was 35 weeks in my 2nd pregnancy. The gynec that I was originally visiting, told me to pick a date to schedule a C-section because my first pregnancy was a C-section. When I asked about VBAC, the gynec said there is a heavy percentage of failure with VBAC so they wouldn't recommend a vaginal delivery. I was upset. That is when my doula, Cynthya Dzialo (http://www.happiestdoulas.com/) introduced me to Intown Midwifery. In my very first visit, I felt relieved and encouraged. After that it only got better every day! They gave me an option to have water birth. I have to accept that I was skeptical at the beginning. They explained me how water birth is a good option and answered all my questions with patience. Now I would say water birth was the 2nd best decision we made. If I could give zero stars for this review, I would. I wasn't impressed with Intown Midwifery from the beginning of my pregnancy. They routinely didn't call me back with test results and when I called the office to ask about my results, it took three phone calls with messages left to finally get someone on the phone to give me results. If you use this practice, be prepared to feel like you're hassling the midwives and staff to give you the service you're paying for. As for my birth - the ONLY positive is that we had a healthy little girl, but it was no thanks to either of my midwives. My first midwife left at the end of her shift, even though she told me that she would stay until I'd had my epidural and there was already a C Section being discussed. She left before Margaret bothered to arrive - leaving me without any sort of support or backup. (Other than that, I felt she supported me while she was there and gave me useful suggestions for positions etc.) The hospital staff was trying to wait on Margaret to arrive, but I was told that even though they'd spoken with her an hour before and were told that she was on her way, they couldn't reach her any longer. By the time Margaret got there, the on call OB was going over our option for a C Section. Margaret seemed annoyed. NEVER spoke to me. Didn't say hello, ask how I was doing or if I had any questions. She never asked my permission to flip me over, put the catheter in or check for dilation. She was extremely rough and had no bedside manner whatsoever. I felt violated and am still surprised with how unprofessional she was. She treated me like I was an inanimate object - not a person. I also did not receive ANY postpartum care. No one came to the hospital room after the birth (which according to Dr James is routine). No one told me when to schedule postpartum visits - I had to call the office to schedule and therefore didn't have a 2 week postpartum visit as I was supposed to. I absolutely feel like I was charged and am paying for services that I either didn't receive or was not satisfied with at all. The very reason I chose a midwifery was because I didn't want to be treated like another number in the pregnancy factory - and that's exactly what I got with Intown Midwifery. Again, let me reiterate just how terrible Margaret was. When I'd met her previously at an appointment I liked her - but she was a totally different, callous person when she arrived in the hospital room and was irritated that we were considering a C section. My daughter is 6 months old now and every time I think of our labor and delivery experience, the midwives (specifically Margaret) stand out, marring the memory. Too bad I can't get that time, experience and my money back. I wish she knew or cared how her attitude tainted this special time. read more

After having been through the birth of my daughter here I can say that a'ok is the right rating. I will summarize my review by saying that this practice has a particular clientele they are geared for and they work well for that particular clientele. Good - All the gals in the front and the nurses are really nice. - Dr James is a sweetheart and has replaced Dr Grant, who while she did a great c section on me, never bothered to follow up. I actually have not seen her since she delivered my daughter. She did the section and left before I was fully stitched up. - Family centered c-sections means baby can nurse asap. - Lynda is very kind and caring. She didn't always know the answer but she checked on it and always called you back. Overall a total sweetheart. I got lucky and she ended up being on call a few times I had scary things come up post delivery. She was amazing and I can't say enough about how much that meant to me. - You have a lot of say in your birth and treatment. They will do all they can to facilitate whatever birth you want so long as you and baby are "up for it" health wise. - AMC doesn't take baby away to the nursery and let's you keep them with you in your room - Nurses at AMC are amazing/super nice. Bad - Midwives run the practice and don't have the knowledge to address higher risk medical issues, not even routine ones. During business hours this isn't a problem as Dr James can handle it, but when you call in the middle of the night with a concern they aren't much help. - Midwife who started my induction and was with me through 24 hours of it did my 6 week post partum checkup and forgot the induction. I had to remind her that she did my induction. After such a difficult and somewhat traumatic birthing experience that made me feel horrible and like just another of their many deliveries. That isn't really what you go to intown midwifery for. - Too large a staff of Midwives so I never got to see the same person more than a couple times and the midwife who I mentioned above had never seen me before the induction so I was not that comfortable with her on that day. - They get you in quickly but will leave you in the room for almost an hour. - Dr Grant did my c section and left before I was even finished being sewn up and I haven't seen her since. Now she isn't with the practice anymore and I am sure Dr James would provide a bit more follow up but that was totally unexpected. - AMC is the most uncomfortable hospital to recover in. Beds are hard, rooms are tiny, hospital overall is just kind of dirty and while the labor and delivery rooms have nice views the recovery rooms are hideous. FYI you aren't looking out the window while laboring. Also if they get full, and they do, you could end up laboring in a triage room, one of which I almost ended up in and it didn't even have enough room for two visitors or a window. Note: The review above doesn't take into account the things which were unique to my situation but rather I tried to isolate the sort of things which would and could affect others who plan on delivering with this group. read more

I really wanted to like Intown Midwifery. My first child (9lbs 1oz) was delivered vaginally by a Kaiser midwife at Northside, and they were incredible, but our insurance changed, so we had to search for other options. Pros: Dr. Bootstaylor and SeeBaby are wonderful. Professional, quick turnaround, competent. Great experience Cons: 1) No ultrasound to confirm pregnancy: My first appointment was at 8 weeks. They only had a Doppler and couldn't confirm a fetal heartbeat via ultrasound. This was really stressful because I was feeling anxiety over strange symptoms, and I had to wait 24 hours to get an ultrasound at SeeBaby to confirm that the pregnancy was, in fact, viable. I was really surprised that they didn't have the technology to do a transvaginal ultrasound (which the Kaiser midwives had) to confirm the # of embryos, position, and heartbeat. When I asked Dr. Bootstaylor why Intown Midwifery didn't have an ultrasound, his response was that he didn't know and maybe they should get one. 2) Patronizing: After being unable to detect a heartbeat at the first appointment, Lindley said "don't worry, I'm sure everything is fine." Which is something a medical professional should NEVER say to a woman whose pregnancy isn't confirmed. This was after sitting with my husband and two year old for TWO HOURS in the exam room being told idiotic advice like "make sure you have snacks around the house for when you get hungry." 3) Inept: After being sent to the front desk to schedule an ultrasound with SeeBaby, I waited for the woman behind the counter to schedule my appointment. She never asked me what day or time I wanted! She handed me a card that said I had to be there at 3pm the next day. I told her I had to work and needed an earlier appointment, and she handed me a map with directions to SeeBaby and told me to call them myself. I went to my car, crying, and dialed the number printed on the map. It was the wrong freaking number! I had to Google it! 4) Ridiculous Wait times: Every appointment has taken between 1 and 2 hours, even when I ask for the first available appointment in the day. Even the appointments where all they do is measure your abdomen and check the heartbeat. 5) Pee Party: Be prepared to give a urine sample while 2 or 3 other pregnant women huddle with the nurse in a 5x5 room. Oh, and you have to write your own name in Sharpie on a plastic drinking cup that looks like it was purchased from Publix. 6) Painful: During my 16 week check up, Lindley pressed so hard trying to use the Doppler that I felt pain for hours. I actually called the office back to let them know how much pain I was in. They were very nice and assured me that no harm could have come to the baby, but it was still unnecessary. 7) Bad Documentation: At my last appointment, I expressed concern over how I seemed to be much bigger than in my previous pregnancy. I asked them how much weight I had gained in the 4 weeks, but they couldn't tell me because they forgot to chart my vitals down at the previous appointment. 8) Incorrect Information After prompting the midwife that I hadn't received a glucose screen, she told me she would schedule it for the next appointment. I was told that it would take two hours and that I should fast beforehand. On the way out, she handed me the information sheet. It said that I should eat a normal breakfast and that the test would take one hour. Seriously? 9) No flu shots For an office that tries to be women-centered and convenient, I really wish they offered the flu shot. Especially because they recommend everyone get one! Pros: 1) Fun playroom for kids 2) Made my spouse feel welcome Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (and my husband's really crappy work insurance), I will be switching back to Kaiser on Jan 1 at 34 weeks pregnant. As much as I would like to support Intown Midwifery, their flakiness leaves me with no confidence in their ability to competently deliver my child. I would love an Intown option for delivery when I have a third, and I hope they can get it together by then. read more

My experience echoes many others here. First, I really wanted to like the practice. I went in with high hopes for a positive experience. I'd heard so many good things about Margaret (I never saw her -- I'm not sure if she sees patients at all any more?) and I was looking forward to a comfortable woman-and-child centered experience where I was supported in a more natural approach to birth. What I found were long wait times, a constantly rotating string of midwives (directly in conflict with the stated protocols in the paperwork I was given when I made my first appointment), midwives who had never read my chart, lab techs who mis-recorded some aspect of my information at every single visit, front desk staff that did not make the phone calls they said they would... I wish I had read the reviews here. I would have known that waiting an hour or more at every visit was standard, rather than assuming that each visit (for the first few at least) was a fluke. I genuinely thought I'd been forgotten on several occasions. Some midwives did act like they had time to address my concerns, which made me feel better about waiting ("Yes, I had to wait, but maybe that's because they're trying to give each of us the time we need"), but others rushed me through my appointment with lightning speed. I found myself thinking, "Why the heck am I here? I could weigh myself, take my own blood pressure, buy a pack of urinalysis strips, and use a fetoscope myself!" My first visit was reasonably comprehensive. Later visits included the midwife allegedly from my "team" (as assigned when I first registered) telling me (I was in my third trimester) that she "hadn't had time to look at" my file. She didn't even have it with her. Of course, it might not have done her much good given that the lab techs made so many mistakes. They were very pleasant and friendly at each visit! I enjoyed seeing them! As they wrote down someone else's birthday, or someone else's blood pressure reading, or a weight that had nothing to do with what the scale said... At various appointments they wrote down the wrong number of weeks gestation (by ten weeks!), the wrong due date (by a month! then argued with me about it!), my wrong age... Since there were often several women being checked in at once, sometimes they mixed up our blood pressure readings or urinalysis results (even though we'd written our own names on the cups)... One time they got my paperwork completely mixed up with someone else with a similar first name. Without hyperbole, there was a mistake at every single visit I had. And those are the ones I caught. I was lucky in that most(!) of these were minor and did not effect my care, or I was able to correct them with the midwife before leaving. Still, when I got copies of my records, I saw that one midwife had put in notes that related to solely to some purely fictitious information she'd had on her sheet without asking me about it. Confidence-inspiring! The group appointments each trimester were a bit of a disaster. I was inadvertently omitted from the first one. I didn't realize how lucky I'd been 'til I made it to the second. The two meetings I attended were wildly over-booked (even the midwives seemed confused), so women ended up sitting on the floor or squeezed in behind others. It was uncomfortable, time-consuming, and unhelpful. I suppose the idea was that some of us might need a support group? I just left feeling resentful. Individually, each of the midwives with whom I had very brief contact was pleasant. They weren't particularly helpful when I had questions or concerns, but they were sweet about it! I didn't have time to develop a relationship with any of them -- it was a bit more like my conversations with my Target cashiers than anything else. The lab techs were sweet. The women at the front desk were always nice -- and never called me back when they said they would (to schedule an ultrasound, etc). I never received any calls back about lab work and had to ask specifically for any information I wanted. Given the issues with the lab techs, I always wondered if the results were even my own. I had my baby at home, so my experience was strictly with pre-natal care. Overall, I think there's the potential to be a good practice. I think they're taking on, strangely, both more patients and more midwives than they can adequately manage. The administrative side was just a mess. And the lab techs need to re-training. It's hard for me to imagine that this is "so much better" than all of the other obstetrical care available in the area. ... On the other hand, when I look at overall c-section rates at other hospitals (it's very high at AMC as well, but quite low for Intown patients), maybe I'm just naive. Maybe it *is* so bad everywhere else that, flaws and all, this is a big improvement? If that's the case, it's a sad state for our region. PS- Dr. Bootstaylor is no longer associated with IM. I am a gyn patient here (not preggers) but am the ideal patient for the clinic. I want a midwife, a doula, and as natural a birth as possible, when my time comes. The midwives I've seen are just fine. The gynecological care they provide is good. However, the wait times are unbearable. Waiting one hour for a scheduled appt is my cutoff and that happens every time. More upsetting than that, they screw up my bill LITERALLY EVERY TIME. I haven't had anything complicated done and I have a talk with them about it after every visit. Doesn't matter, they still can't get it right and they have lost me as a patient. Prenatal Care: Their prenatal care is standard and high quality. The main difference is the attention given to emotional support during pregnancy and the group discussion classes which were a highlight of my pregnancy. With these midwives, I could actually talk and talk and talk and they listened, and listened some more. Very refreshing! Great conversations, just what a woman needs during this special time. I had an easy pregnancy with no complications. I was able to consume jelly beans instead of the nasty glucose drink for my glucose test. I got to perform my own Group B strep test. I also was able to track my blood pressure at home since I had "white coat" issues of it spiking only at medical offices. Ironically, since my first visit at Intown Midwifery, my blood pressure was actually normal -- that's how comfortable I felt and what a great environment it is, that's never happened to me before. Kristie doing patient intake was welcoming and informative, Meg the triage nurse was wonderful to work with by email to answer all my random questions or concerns. The front desk staff was courteous, lab techs were a highlight of each visit and of course the midwives were excellent. I didn't care who I saw, I enjoyed them all and felt cared for to the highest degree. Labor & Delivery: I had searched high and low for a practice that would truly support unmedicated natural childbirth. I also wanted a water birth. And I wanted a VBAC! Intown Midwifery told me I could have it all and I did! Their partnership with Atlanta Medical Center is paramount to accomplishing these things. They kept me calm, confident and feeling in control during a situation that was as out of my hands as it could be. They were patient when I called several times during the "false" labor and early labor. They expertly recommended I underwent therapeutic rest in order to sleep during my 57hr labor so that I would have enough energy once active labor began since I had such a SLOW labor. It gave me the strength I needed. They were brilliant in the timing of where I labored -- going to the shower around 6cm, resting in the bed around 7cm then the tub around 8cm for transition until time to push. My minor first degree tear was stitched up and I've healed great. We left the hospital 24hrs later and I was walking on air. Such a positive, empowering experience compared to that of my first birth which took place in a typical hospital by a typical OB 5yrs prior. THANK YOU ALL! read more

Update: I had my baby this morning (6/7/16). We came to the hospital at around 4:30 am. Margaret was on-call midwife. She ended up delivering my son. I had an unmedicated water birth so I wasn't the easiest to deal with. Margaret and my nurse Amanda took great care of me. They both acted as lactation consultants in my first few hours. I got good vibes from them. I wasn't rushed at all. In fact, after being in L&D for about 4 hours, I was begging for the epidural (though I SWORE I was going to be an all-natural, unmedicated mom). Instead of just doing it, Amanda checked me and was excited to announce that I had made it to 8 cm (from 4 cm @ 4:30). She's the reason I went ahead with the natural birth. It hurt like hell but Im so proud of me and I owe that to Amanda. The triage nurse was also really nice. Im so glad I switched from Emory. The crew at Intown is so genuine. Janet is hilarious (she's the other on-call midwife). Linley is pretty tactful. Margaret knows what she's doing. (Not to say that they don't share traits, ones I mentioned were just more apparent to me). Old Review (Pregnant, Pre Baby) I've been going to Intown Midwifery now for about 2 months or so for prenatal care, today is my due date. I switched over from Emory after I learned about the messed up hospital policies- they're pretty much a huge money making machine that doesn't give a damn about a pregnant woman's wants or needs. About Intown- I really like it! It's small (3 midwives total, 2 that deliver); Definitely a more intimate feel to the office. The midwives take their time with you during a visit; they don't try to rush you out of the office (like I've experienced with quite a few Emory OBs; I actually had one tell me that the hospital only allowed for 15 minutes each visit). And they are MUCH more supportive of natural, unmedicated births. You can tell that they are genuine, down-to-earth people that know what they are doing (midwives are more trained in natural birth than OBs). They are backed by an OB (like most midwiferies) for the skeptics. Dr. James (the OB) is also really cool. The hospital where the office is (Atlanta Medical Center) isn't glamorous like Northside or Emory, but the labor and delivery nurses are nice so far as I've experienced them. The Intown staff is also very diverse, so that was a plus for me, being a woman of color. I thoroughly investigated both See Baby Midwifery and Intown Midwifery before I chose. I got a more homey, in-touch vibe from Intown so I stuck with them; I'm glad I did. See Baby was okay too, but I was a little turned off by the lack of diversity. Things seemed a little "stiff", and their OB was a major part of their presentation (which scared me a little, as OBs are infamous for stepping in and cutting you up when necessary). They also wouldn't give me a straight up percentage when I asked what Dr. Bootstaylor's C-section rate was; I got the handy "very low" response... I would say that See Baby may be for women who don't really believe in holistic health, but who just want an alternative to the typical hospital/OB. read more

I very much want to like this practice. I appreciate the time they spend with you during appointments and for general care. However, my labor and delivery experience was awful. Linda was on call when I delivered. I checked in after being in labor for 24 hours on my own, and then I was in labor at the hospital for 12 hours after that. I'd hoped for a water birth, but I had some complications that forced me to be hooked up to the monitors. During the 12 hours I was there before I gave birth, Linda poked her head in the room maybe 3 times, if that. She spent a total of about 10 minutes with me and then she showed up for the last hour while I pushed. She barely talked to me at all, which meant that she didn't even realize when I was having complications. Several things went wrong during the delivery and she was nowhere to be found. I sent my husband several times to look for her or the L&D nurse (also absent much of the time), so I spent most of my L&D experience alone and afraid, and he came back without her every time. I'm sure (I hope) that she was busy helping other women who were in labor, and if that's the case then those women probably had better experiences than I did. But that fact (well, that assumption) doesn't change the fact that my experience was truly awful. I came to this practice because I thought that midwives offered something more than just showing up to "catch the baby." I was wrong--that is all I got. And a regular doctor might have actually noticed or been on call when things started to go wrong. As far as general care goes, I will probably continue to see them. If I have another baby, I'm not sure. They're probably still more personable and hands-on than a normal OB/GYN. They're still the only ones who offer water birth that's covered by my insurance, and I'm not willing to do a home birth after the first experience. If you do decide to go with this practice, don't count on the midwife to be with you during labor and delivery. She may be there for part of the time, and that would be great, but you might be one of the unlucky ones. If you think you'll need support, get a doula that you can count on. EDITED TO ADD: I obtained copes of my medical records from Atlanta Medical Center and Intown Midwifery and took them for a second opinion. I honestly had a pretty terrible experience at AMC. They're overstaffed and have no relationship with their patients. I never got the same midwife and they were all really scatterbrained. I went in having a miscarriage and they were very unknowledgeable, the midwife left forceps in me and left the room for a good five minutes. The woman that tests urine is really kind but other than that don't go here unless you have to. Did i mention that it's in the worst possible area of town with crackheads pacing around the building? While I had my first baby at a very large practice with midwives at Northside that was accommodating of my no medication birth preference, I discovered that the midwives are really medically minded like the doctors and practice out of fear. For my second pregnancy, I was 39 and while in fabulous health with no risk factors, I was told that I would have to come in twice a week starting at 32 weeks for both a non-stress test and ultrasound. I did my research and read online what ACOG actually said about that. There was no statistical difference in stillbirths due to possible amniotic fluid loss in having all those ultrasounds or not having them. However the practice would not budge on their requirements for me. At the Intown Midwifery Meet and Greet, I asked Dr. Bootstaylor about it. He said it is of way more importance to pay attention to daily kick counts. He said he practices evidence based medicine, not fear based practice. I trusted his opinion because there is a reason he is a "Top Doc." I transferred at about 28 or so weeks so that I wouldn't be "managed" due to my age. Each visit I requested to see a different midwife so that I would get to know each one. They were very accommodating of helping me with that goal. You never know who will be on call, so I don't understand reviewers who are upset with seeing a different midwife each time. Since I had been forewarned that wait times were long, I planned for it. Heck, I had to wait 90 minutes after my appointment time for my kids to be seen by our pediatrician today. But good care often means understanding wait times because the doctor or midwife doesn't rush through appointments. I felt listened to each visit. I felt confident in all the midwives I saw. The office staff was great and always helpful. My birth experience was way faster than my first -- 8 vs. 34 hours. So I delivered about 45 minutes after arriving at the hospital. All the rooms were full so I stayed in triage. They were prepared to fill the tub in a creative way, but obviously there was no time for that regardless. I was pleased with how the delivery and post partum care went. So all the women who are so negative, while I wasn't with you, I will say that some people are just complainers. I mean one person complained that she had to write her name on the urine sample cup. Duh, that's how it's done everywhere from my experience. If you want full support in a non-medicated birth (or not), want a midwife model but don't want home delivery, want the option of laboring or delivering in water, and a low risk of c-section, then Intown is a great place. If you want a luxurious hospital with an over 30% chance of a c-section and no breech option, then go to Northside. read more

I had Lori Bounds as my midwife who delivered my daughter naturally last week at AMC and I don't think I could have had a better experience. She coached me during the entire birth process, hugged me when I was bawling and scared, and encouraged me endlessly that I could get through the awful back labor I was experiencing. The nurses who also attended the birth were great, post natal nurses amazing. I highly recommend Intown Midwifery because when it's time to deliver they come through and are amazing. read more

I wish more folks with positive experiences at Intown would write reviews. With how busy they are, you know there are far more satisfied mothers out there than represented here. I am glad I relied on personal references rather than the reviews here. We are very happy with our pregnancy care and birth with Intown. When we had long wait times, we simply shifted our appointments to be first thing in the morning or just after lunch. If we met with a midwife that we didn't feel as comfortable with, we simply asked to see our favorite midwives. Midwives are just like the rest of us - each has their own personality and communication style. With so many to chose from at Intown you are sure to find several that meet your preferences. In many ways it was great to have the variety of midwives and hear their different perspectives. We also really enjoyed watching the midwives collaborate with each other to discuss our concerns and ensure we received the best care. We always found Intown to be extremely accommodating of our requests. Most importantly we found Intown to be accepting AND supportive of our natural pregnancy wishes. I felt fully supported throughout the process and when we did have complications, I knew I was receiving the best care possible. During the labor Gloria was the midwife on call and provided us with amazing care and communication. I felt fully informed throughout the process and she was there when we needed her night and day. When the baby's vital signs dropped without recovery and an emergency cesarean was imminent, Gloria made certain I knew exactly what was happening and what my options were. She knew exactly how to reach Dr. Bootstaylor most efficiently and thanks to her quick actions, he was able to make it to the hospital on time to perform the operation. Her postpartum visit was very comforting and again very supportive. There is no doubt that Gloria, along with the nurses at AMC and Dr. Bootstaylor, saved our son. We highly recommend Intown to all expecting mothers. read more
