However, after being taken to the exam room and changing into a paper gown, I waited nearly 45 minutes alone without anyone checking in. It was uncomfortable and left a poor first impression. When I finally saw Dr. Soufi, she apologized for the delay and was pleasant, but I didn't feel my concerns were fully heard. I discussed a history of ovarian cysts, recent symptoms, and questions about perimenopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). My concerns about the cysts were not evaluated further, and no ultrasound or additional testing was ordered. What troubled me most was being told I would likely never be a candidate for HRT simply because I had leukemia. Leukemia is not a hormone-sensitive cancer, and many blood cancer survivors can be considered for HRT based on their individual medical history. I was surprised that such a definitive statement was made without discussion of my specific circumstances or a willingness to explore the latest evidence or consult with my oncology team. During our conversation, I also shared the emotional impact my cancer treatment had on my fertility. I was told that I could "just adopt." While I'm sure the comment was well-intentioned, it felt dismissive of a deeply personal loss and lacked the empathy I needed in that moment. After the exam, we continued our discussion in her office, which was extremely cluttered with paperwork, empty water bottles strewn about, and patient records visible on the desk. That added to my discomfort. I truly respect that many patients have had wonderful experiences with Dr. Soufi, particularly in obstetrics. My experience, however, was not a good fit for my gynecologic and menopause care. I later sought a second opinion, where my concerns were taken seriously, imaging was ordered immediately, and a complex 6.5 cm ovarian cyst was discovered. He told me to wait at least a year after my surgery and if after that we were not having any luck to come back. A year passed and I scheduled another appointment, he was very clear about what the plan he wanted to do to help get me pregnant was, and what he was comfortable prescribing and recommending. Unfortunately I had a complication from the medication he prescribed and had to have surgery, but the entire process, surgery included he was so kind, gentle and reassuring. He never overstepped or tried a medication or plan that was outside of his personal comfort. Even though I have to see a specialist now, Dr. Fountain truly was the best GYN to help us along our journey to start a family and I'm very thankful for his entire office. Everyone is always so helpful and kind, and even when I got bad news they were so gentle with their words and their efforts to make sure I had everything I needed. Cannot recommend them enough.

Many people have contacted me via Cancer Websites to ask what they should do. In all cases I tell them to schedule a consultation and see if this is the right treatment for you. If you are closed minded and ONLY want standard assembly line care like they offer around the country, this isn't your place to be treated. They will teach you how important the mind is in reference to your health. They will give you treatments like Red Light therapy and PEMF. They will inject you with things like mistletoe and give you a lot of pills to take. If this bothers you that its not the standard "grab a IV bag of full dose chemo" maybe your mind isn't open to beating this disease. Just think if all of those other chemos didn't work like they didn't work for me; why wouldn't you try something different then the normal BIG PHARMA protocol? Its been over a year since I left the clinic. I am still cancer free. Is it because of the treatment? I have no idea; however, I know that if I would not have tried this my NORMAL Dr's would have just given me a pill to take and sent me on my way, as I am stage 4. At this center they don't treat you like a # and they tailor your treatment to your disease. They will answer all your questions. They will review your blood weekly. You will learn how the brain and the body are connected. You will meet a group of caring medical professionals that are there for you. And funny enough the other patients are marvelous and upbeat. I was probably the grouchiest patient they had :) They will suggest a plant based diet. I did that for the time I was there and failed at it after returning home. However I don't eat anything that comes from the sea or water now. That is because I now know about Methionine. I only drink water now. I occasionally will have a sangria; however, I don't eat processed food now. Keep in mind this is your life and you have to do what you can manage and not punish yourself for failing to do everything 100% perfect. Normal Doctors won't even discuss food or how your mind controls your health. My treatment was 3 months. I paid in full with a Credit Card as I have Kaiser Insurance which doesn't allow for out of network care. I did this over Thanksgiving 222 and Xmas and New Years. My schedule was only paused a day or 2 for Thanksgiving. It was 4 weeks there and 4 weeks off and then 4 weeks there. I didn't react well to the treatment I feel because my endocrine system was a disaster due to having 2 other FULL SPECTRUM chemo treatments. I had tons of nausea. I had pre-diabetic issues as chemo never allows me to lose weight it always makes me gain weight. I also don't lose my hair with chemo. I am an odd ball. Other FULL spectrum chemos damaged my joints to where I need joint replacements. I didn't that experience here. I was just full of nausea. It's not their fault I just tend to react differently to different things. The bottom line is if you are at all concerned that this is right for you, listen to Dr. Stegall's podcast on Spotify. Its called "Cancer Secrets Podcast." I binge listened to all of these in 1 week and I was sold on the fact this was the right place for me. In the end you need to decide what is right for you. For me this was the best decision I made for my long term health in regards to Cancer Treatment. PROTIP: Get with the center before you go to plan your housing and get a layout on what places are close by for food and other services. There is a good amount of shopping to the south of the center. Lots of places to eat. Tons of housing (we went with a 1 bdr apartment). Housing suggestions I should have taken from the Center to begin with and of course there is a whole foods close by.

I had read about them in "The Price we Pay", by Marty Markary, MD, retired Johns Hopkins surgeon and critic of America's health care system. He saw Iora as a light in the dark and dirty world of medical greed and profit. With optimism, I joined, happy to leave my conventional (read: too busy and careless) old line practice of two decades. There was the Piedmont primary physician who had ignored my husband's out-of-whack liver results for weeks until he be specialist sounded the alarm that he needed emergency surgery, all indicated by the blood results the primary had ignored, despite numerous unreturned phone calls. We both left that practice that had been characterized for years by the doctor's tardiness and unresponsiveness. I tried Emory's Primary Care. This time I got a newly minted MD, marking time in primary care until she could qualify for one of the lucrative specialties, like cosmetic surgery. She misdiagnosed a chest x-ray and had an assistant call me and casually ask what I wanted to do about my aortic aneurism! When I requested a call from the doctor, I was told she was out for the week, but wouldn't talk to me on the phone anyway, so I had to make an appointment. A minute before, the non-physician, had wrongly informed me that I had a deadly condition that might rupture without warning and kill me. I got a recommendation for yet another old-line practice that I didn't know was being bought out by private equity, expanded to multiple strip mall locations, all of which were bare bones - a doctor, receptionist, nurse, and equipment to take vitals - which I have at home. There was another that was by subscription, requiring use of an app. Silicon Valley trying to uberize, gamify and degrade another business. Now comes Iora, for which I had hopes. After about a year, most of the care involved nurse-practitioners giving ridiculous, inappropriate and useless advice probably gleaned from Instagram influencers. The first problem, and it's a big one, is that they have none of the important diagnostic equipment that medical practices used to have as standard. So the basically healthy patient ends up spending all their time making appointments at hospitals and imaging centers. But at least everyone was friendly and pleasant. Their advertising touts an employee called "health coach" which also sounds like an Instagram influencer. I didn't like the location, a long, complicated drive, but at least it was a free-standing building with plenty of parking in a big box store mall. I was greeted immediately and waited only a few minutes. The doctor was a very pleasant young woman. My history was taken by a third person, who typed the conversation into the computer. It was better that the doctor wasn't focused on entering data instead of looking at me. So far, so good. I had no medical complaints, but just wanted to have a base visit. Then the phlebotomist tried to draw blood. She was terrible. Had to stick me repeatedly, ignored my instruction that my right elbow vein can't be accessed. I was black and blue and she only got half the blood required. I stayed for two years. One day I got a letter that Iora is now One Medical, purchased by Amazon for $3.9B. Next visit, the office was even more stripped down. No stenographer, no health coach. Just the doctor and me. She's taking notes, just like in the past. There was still no ECG or ultrasound, no bone scan equipment, no vein-finder (which Amazon sells at a low price, and could have made the blood draw easier. I am driving 30 miles each way in heavy highway construction for no reason. The doctor orders normal annual tests at a hospital complex. It was left to me to spend hours navigating what was likely the world's worst phone system. One Medical had no employees to handle this burden. Forgot to mention that I did come in once with swelling and pain in my leg. The Nurse suggested physical therapy, with no diagnosis. Then she suggested an x-ray. Of course they have no x-ray machine, something available at most medical offices, even urgent care walk-ins. I had been sent on several missions for imaging, only to find there had been no change since the last one. I'm becoming suspicious that One Medical has a financial relationship with certain specialists and facilities. I have moved to a concierge practice, which I've visited once and was rushed, wasn't given 24-hour contact info or a list of services as promised and my first complete physical will only take 30 minutes. US medical system is all profit and little actual medical care. No wonder there are so many Instagram stars.

I had looked into about 8 other (larger) agencies prior to contacting FM and received either very generic responses or no responses I was left still searching. After emailing FM and receiving a response within 20 minutes with extremely details answers to all my questions I knew they were my agency. Some timeline stats: I was matched just over 1 month of getting started. Had my medical eval within 3 months after being matched, transferred approx 3 months after that (Holidays caused a little delay with the clinic), and delivered approx 15 months after being matched. As a first time surrogate FM made the whole process very easy. They constantly informed me of the next step, kept me on track for what needed to be done and how, and were extremely timely with all payments and requests without any need for me to check up on payments. After payments were submitted most reimbursements were within 2-3 days and I have no outstanding payments at all. All communication was extremely prompt and i actually felt like I had a constant support system on top of my family support. They used an outside escrow company who was fantastic! They kept legal on a great schedule and helped me communicate with my IM and my clinic whenever I needed a hand. I believe Ashlee Hammonds puts her whole heart into this agency and I was extremely fortunate to have been able to work with her and her staff.
