Local amateur dramatics is alive and kicking at this 400-seater venue in North London. Throughout the year there's a wide variety of plays, musicals and pantomimes, performed by local drama groups.
It's a relatively inexpensive night out, though of course you can never be quite sure of the quality of performances you'll be seeing,unless you know the drama group. However, I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the local talent who are good enough to make a career out of acting.
The theatre boasts an impressive heritage as many big names have trod its boards in the past, including Roger Moore, Richard Attenborough, Vivien Leigh, and , er Tony Blackburn.
The only downside for me is that the building is not quite its old self. I feel that the interior décor is on the slide; years ago they ripped out the red velvet seats and replaced them with the sort of plastic stools you can find in any old church hall. It took something away from the theatrical experience. Nevertheless it has ever spoiled the joy of watching an entertaining show well performed. read more
