I called and spoke with Randy, very knowledgeable and polite. I asked about a brand of turn table audio technica. I needed new needle / cartridge and told him it was skipping on brand new vinyl. Randy was patient with me and questions. He had to options the best cartridge or cheaper. He let me listen to both options to my album i brought Fleetwood mac. I told him the more expensive sounded so much better. Although his turntable person unfortunately passed away after 47 years with him , he is very knowledgeable. Just a quick note to give a big thanks to Randy at Interwest Electronics in Murray! My 50 year old Kenwood KA-405 integrated amp had become pretty much dead. I thought it was the volume pots because I could tap the volume knob and it would sometimes come on. I sprayed contact cleaner on the volume pots and it still wouldn't play. Took it to Interwest and Randy looked it over and said it was the contacts in the source selector. He hit it with contact cleaner along with all other switches and it now works just fine. He wouldn't accept any money but I did give him some after he'd spent the time to diagnose and clean all other switch contacts. read more

Once again, I sought the services of Interwest Electronics when my 26-year-old Klipsch KSW 200 subwoofer stopped working. After contacting Klipsch customer service and getting referrals to two service centers (Oregon and Texas), I learned that neither has parts for this older model. Rats. So, I reached out to Randy at Interwest...someone who I've been patronizing since 1982 with my vintage 2.1 stereo system from college. I started by contacting Randy by email and was happy to hear he was interested and started asking me a series of questions well in advance of me bringing in the amplifier plate from the subwoofer. If Randy is anything, he's responsive and communicative...and responded to my answers the same day. Through a series of back-and-forth messages, Randy convinced me to bring in the amplifier for an inspection. I did just that on Wednesday (wonderful that he's open until 7:00 PM!) and after some visual inspection, he saw nothing obvious. With that said his bench fee, although reasonable, was enough for me to decide to put that money towards a new subwoofer for my vintage 2.1 system. However, it was nice of Randy to take his time to look it over there on his bench and give me his honest opinion and service quote. I purchased a new subwoofer today to replace this relic, but I still appreciated Randy's review and brief diagnosis...as well as his timely and comprehensive responses to email communications before making the trip to his shop. Absolutely amazing! I brought in a 1982 Japanese boombox that was in fairly good shape cosmetically - aside from missing the volume knob, but only the radio was working when I brought it in. I know that Interwest is absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of requests for electronics repairs they get. Most of the items I've brought them are quoted a nine month turnaround. But I must've gotten lucky and the guys at Interwest Electronics quoted me a 4 week turnaround on my boombox, AND when I picked it up they had managed to track down a new volume knob for it!! Above and beyond my expectations! The unit had not only been repaired, but it had also been cleaned! Spotless and beautiful! In all of it's 1980's glory! For decades, Interwest Electronics has been the best place in the Metro Salt Lake area to go for audio repairs. They are very knowledgeable and proficient in their craft. Their costs are not low, but you get good value for your money. But, one caveat, their work is so sought after, it's nearly impossible to get a spot on their list for repairs, for which the wait is almost a year long. But persistence can be key, and maybe, if your project is interesting enough, you just might get a spot on their schedule. If you do it will be worth the wait. read more

Took my 37 years old Denon receiver in for repair because the volume control was getting bad; after the repair, I noticed there was another issue... I brought it back and Randy took care of it within 24 hours! no addition cost. Older receiver are much better than the newer integrated circuit boards receivers, so I am okay in spending the money to get it fixed. You won't believe the value and expertise that Randy and his team offer. I took a vintage receiver into them 6 years ago and they were great. Replaced some components and got it working like a charm! Fast forward to April 2023 and i started having some issues with it overheating and switching off. I brought it in to see if it could be fixed. Instead of putting my amplifier on a shelf and handing me a ticket to pick up after servicing, Randy opted for a different route. He asked me to leave it for a few hours while he ran it on their equipment to make sure it wasn't a problem with my speakers. Low and behold-no issues on site. Most shops would just send you on your merry way. Not here, Randy spent another hour going over what i may be doing wrong with my home setup and advising me how to change my speaker settings to make the amp work correctly. He was so patient and thorough with us, i really felt he cared about our happiness with the receiver and it's rare to find someone so dedicated to their craft I brought the amp home, connected it in the configuration he recommended and it has been flawless. Not only did it resolve the overheating issues, the amp sounds clearer, brighter and sharp. Oh-i forgot to mention he cleaned up the volume sliders and switches while he was checking it out! The only thing i would change is that he didn't charge me a dime for the whole day worth of troubleshooting and diagnostics. I'll find a way to make sure he knows what he did for us wasn't taken for granted though! Don't waste time going somewhere else. I took a vintage Pioneer SX-1050 receiver in to have it serviced and opted to have it brought back to original condition. The result is a new looking and better yet fantastic sounding unit! This shop is the kind of shop you see in blade runner when someone needs some ancient tech sliced. I recently bought a couple vintage Marantz amps on eBay and one was damaged in shipping. I took them to Interwest to have them both checked out. Randy was super nice and thorough pointing out everything that needed to be fixed and testing every function and all components for normal operation. Been into high-end audio equipment my entire life and was having some issues with a new Nagaoka MP-110 I installed on my Technics table - was skipping despite my best efforts in setting up the cartridge/stylus. This place is great, and a dying breed. When you walk in to buy a new stylus (not a cheap one I might add) and they say "have we checked your stylus under a microscope". Accidentally got the wrong stylus for my cartridge, they put in a new cartridge free of charge. Some of the best service I've had anywhere

I was referred to this shop by a friend to find out if it was worth and/or possible to upgrade my 35 yo turntable. After receiving straightforward information and a recommendation I brought the turntable in. A new cartridge and stylus were installed and all of the balance and tracking adjustments were made. The resulting sound was better than when I purchased the turntable new. Definitely recommend this shop. read more

Was looking for a replacement turntable for my vintage Sansui P-L50 and not only found one but found the same one in mint, like-new condition here. Randy was extremely helpful, tested the turntable for me, and made sure it was packed back in it's original box for my trip back to Arizona. He had another turntable I really liked as well and some other cool stuff. But it was his caring and friendly manner that made me sure I had gotten a great deal. I Brought a Vintage Marantz in for service. The owner Randy told me it would be over $1,000 to to repair , and a 6 months wait. That it wasn't worth fixing. All this without even looking at the machine. Then told me he would give me $250 cash for it. I told him the mint wood case was worth at least that, and in a non working condition these sell for over $500. I would guess $700 to $800 minimum including the case. By the way it is a new old stock Marantz 4300 in absolutely perfect condition physically. New old stock out of the box. It ended up having a small electrical issue that was fixed for Under $200 when I took it to someone who was willing to actually look at it, and not try to buy it for a joke price. So the new guy at TV Specialists fixed it in like 2 weeks, and I sold it on Ebay for over $2,000. So I'm not saying he is a scam artist or doesn't know how to fix things, or even not to go there.
