I am always happy to see Dr Soni. I feel very fortunate that I found him. He's been a life-saver for me, since my first visit with him. He is a very kind doctor, and he really listens to me and my concerns. Dr. Soni is a very professional, polite, positive, and down to earth person! He makes you feel right at home. Not intimidating whatsoever. I always go home happy, and fully satisfied. Dr. Soni covers all bases efficiently, without ever making me feel rushed or that his mind is on a "to do" list. In the 6 months our family participated in services, we had difficulty getting prescriptions refilled and on more than one occasion we ran out of mediciation. Very unprofessional. read more

I have had good experiences while receiving services at Interpersonal Psychiatry. Dr. Soni is a very knowledgeable, educated, and insightful psychiatrist. He provides clear explanations and I feel confident in his treatment approach. I also have seen Sharma and she is absolutely delightful. She is empathetic, compassionate, and very knowledgable about psychiatric medicine. My appointments are through tele-health, and the system is easy to use and reliable. I appreciate the appointment reminders. I get one about a week prior and then another about 3 days prior - which allows for rescheduling if necessary, and one the day before. read more

I spent over two hours completing the online intake forms for my initial appointment. I hit the submit button, and thought I was good to go. Then I get a call from the receptionist the day before my appointment and she tells me that it doesn't actually submit unless you log out of the portal after clicking submit. I think that is completely ridiculous. If that's the case, patients should be informed of those instructions before wasting so much time to fill out all that paperwork! Dr. Soni is easily the most arrogant and entitled Doctor I have ever had the displeasure of working with. He has at least one 'assistant' in the office at all times. Always a young female. If I were at a bar that might be great, but it's a Doctor's office). He walks around the room, while she has a computer projecting your information on the wall and she scrolls through whatever he instructs her to. This person is not a licensed Physician or anyone with credentials. I am absolutely disgusted by his assumption that sharing my personal psychiatric information, in the presence of another individual, without any sort of request for consent, should just be 'part of the visit'. If he is incapable of taking his own notes and charting his patients' information he needs to learn to multi task. It's the 'Dr. Soni show'. You are but a participant. As he walks the wooden floors, arms crossed and sizing you up, it becomes very clear, very quickly, that he is essentially an Adderall pusher. I spoke with another patient in the waiting room, jaw flopping from an obvious methamphetamine addiction. She explained that she had to hurry to get to her parole officer and needed her adderall first. Another patient came out to schedule some sort of test to get her Adderall. I came from another Doctor, who had retired. Soni was recommended. He had my charts but was completely unwilling to transfer me to the low dose of Valium I had been on for 15 years. I'm not composing this because I have a 'junkie beef', but simply because he was handing out large doses of Adderall like a guy who was getting free trips from Pfizer, meanwhile I'm presenting with a very real diagnosis of acute anxiety disorder, well established via my records and he couldn't accomodate 10 mg of Valium, even when I said I would be willing to taper off of it. He knows, unless he's completely incompetent, that even that low of a dose of that medicine cannot be simply stopped, cold turkey, after 15 years. That can cause a seizure and kill you. He prescribed a medication that made me horribly nauseas. I went to his office and left him a well composed letter of termination and informed him that every step of the way his approach was humiliating and appeared to be there for his personal egotistical gratification. I have met people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder and if 'I' were diagnosing 'him' I would prescribe that diagnosis. The office staff were very kind and the office itself was very clean. I have since began seeing one of his colleagues, who is highly credentialed, voted Best Psychiatrist in Kansas City several times over with his own website and a wall full of accolades, every one of which he deserves. His last name begins with 'H' and I highly recommend him. *Just to put bookends on this review; I have read the entirety of all Dr. Soni's patient reviews and see a recurring pattern. The patients who left bad reviews (90%) seem to all have had very similar experiences relating to Dr. Soni being completely erratic, and often, almost schizophrenic in his failure to exhibit consistency. Multiple patients, all on anxiety type medications, and all of who provide articulate and intelligible insight, have the same complaint; Soni turns on them, in what seem to be very typical situations where any other Psychiatrist wouldn't think twice about offering appropriate communication and fixing minute problems. It is very common for pharmacies to be unclear about the dates they will fill medications. Certain medications are given a 3 day grace period, I assume because the meds may be off 24 or 48 hours if a patient has had any number of problems. These meds can be very dangerous to suddenly cold turkey from. Fortunately for the rest of the world, when things in life cause your schedule to be bumped a bit off of track, you do not have to worry about not being able to get your meds. This is a Psychiatrist, not a family practitioner who might prescribe you cough medicine every five years. Mental health is a very serious issue and for those who suffer from any degree of mental illness, we don't ask to be afflicted with it. That's why Dr. Soni is pulling in well over a million dollars a year. These situations are fragile and require rational and appropriate delegation. The most remarkable, and telling behaviour, which speaks quite clearly to the fact that Dr. Soni is a textbook Narcissist, is that he pops in to comment on his patients' reviews by leaving trite and dismissive passive-aggressive jabs that imply every patient leaving a negative review must be someone requiring addiction treatment. read more

I have only been seeing Dr. Soni for about three months now and my life has already changed for the better. He is extremely friendly, patient, and understanding. Each appointment we talk in-depth about each medicine I'm currently taking and how they make me feel. He explains everything in a way that's easy to understand and gives me mini homework assignments for my mental health. I recommend Interpersonal Psychiatry to my friends and family all the time. If I could give negative stars, I would. I saw Dr. Soni for somewhere around two years. He was great in the beginning - very kind, patient & understanding. A few months after he opened an office off of that street that comes from K10, he started acting off & strange. It came to be that i was needing one of my medications filled 2 or so days earlier for the last 3 months, although I would have never known it was a problem as Dr. Soni never discussed with me having any concerns. I didn't even realize what was happening. I found out it was a problem when the last time I went to him to get my refills, he wrote my script not to be filled until a specific date. I noticed this before I left his office & explained to him that I was going to need my refill before my date. This would have normally been a good opener for him to discuss with me his concern, but he quickly muttered something, brushing it under the carpet, & changed the focus of the conversation I was trying to have with him by leading me to believe that I was going to be able to get my medication. He even took the script back from me & wrote something else on it, so I left believing that he had fixed it or something. A couple days go by, I drop off the script at my pharmacy, & come to find out - he had written the prescription in a way that rendered it invalid!! The pharmacy would not fill it. He never gave me a chance to learn there was a problem, thereby stealing any opportunity I might have had to get it worked out straight for myself. I called his office - I just at least wanted to understand why this was happening. He never returned any of my phone calls. I finally just showed up at his office. He finally agreed to meet with me. After several minutes of, "What is going on here? I don't understand why you're being like this about my medication.", he finally stammered something about how I had been filling my script a day or two earlier every month. I told him that I hadn't realized & asked why he didn't talk to me about it before it got to the point it had gotten to. He dropped me like a hot potato. He told me that he had absolutely no responsibility for my care. He did not even offer to prescribe any medications which would have facilitated a safer detoxification from this medication. He got seriously very strange - I felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. At one point during our brief interaction in his office, with one of his aides in the room to act as some sort of witness for him, she & I both witnessed the strange man breaking out in a red-faced sweat, & at one point started actually jumping up & down in his office like a child when he felt like he had won whatever argument he thought we were having, pointing at me, saying, "I got you! You have nothing against me!" I was not trying to argue. I am normally a very level-headed individual - I do not feel comfortable drawing any negative attention to myself, plus I was actually a little scared to see this man with whom I've been trusting my care for the past 2-3 years, behaving like he was, so I was sitting in his office in a stupor. I was simply trying to understand what had happened to bring all of this to occur. Most importantly, he did have responsibility for my care - he was my doctor, whom I had trusted to help keep me straight. I still don't understand why he never mentioned to me there seemed to have been a problem - that I was filling my medication a day or two earlier every month. In a healthy doctor-patient relationship, I believe he should have discussed it with me when he first noticed, & discussed with me ways to do better - if he were really interested in helping me. I ended up having a very hard time with withdrawal for a few days. I tried going to the hospital - it was just a mess. Anyway - it was an excruciatingly hard time for me. I hope I can save one person from having this doctor rip the carpet out from under them without any explanation, leaving them in an awful lurch, without any medication. I have a new doctor now & now that I am aware about how one might easily get thrown off track in regards to their medication, I don't have any ongoing issue with needing to get my medication filled a day or two early. I didn't need to be put through any of that ordeal - I just needed to be spoken with. A further point of frustration with this doctor is his response to negative reviews. I don't expect one, but if there is a response from his office to my review, I will be surprised if he does not further accuse me, the reviewer, as just being upset & jaded because he would not refill my medication, &/or that I was acting unreasonably, &/or demanding a script for my medication. He is going to shift blame - blame the victim. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND SEEKING HELP HERE. Seeing Dr. Soni for the first time on the verge of a panic attack, while having social anxiety as well, so I brought my girlfriend along for moral support. His professional opinion was based on my rate of response in comparison to hers; whom does not have any social fears. I found it troublesome that he would compare the two of us at all, which I thought was incredibly unprofessional. He had great analogies and metaphors to put into perspective for certain things but my visit overall was nothing more than a waste of time, effort, and money. read more

I have seen, I don't even know how many psychiatrists, sleep doctors, etc, & I have never in my life felt that the doctor I was seeing genuinely cared about my well-being or cared if I was making any progress, until I started seeing Dr. Soni & receiving TMS treatment from his wife at Interpersonal. I am updating this review nine months later; I have continued to benefit greatly from Dr. Soni's care. Since I began seeing Dr. Soni I have lost ninety pounds, I no longer need my CPAP, I have dropped from thirteen prescription medicines to only two, and I have seen improvement in every facet of my personal and professional life. To be sure, I did most of the work myself - this was no easy task - but it was Dr. Soni's help that gave me the impetus and the encouragement to keep doing the work. Also, over the past year my son and my brother-in-law have both seen Dr. Soni with great success. Don't let administrative quibbles or one-off experiences deter you; if you need psychiatric help, you owe it to yourself to go to Interpersonal Psychiatry. read more

The absolute worst. Little to no concern about people, just making money. Constantly experienced lapses in my medication. Incredibly rude receptionists. Chrystal was the most uncaring and unprofessional person I have interacted with in a long time. She's a pretty good representation of my experience at IP as a whole. Except Tammy, she is wonderful and caring and will make you feel like a person. Thank god for Tammy. Been moved around to 4 different doctors during my time there because they can't retain qualified staff. My appointments never last longer than 10 minutes. Over charged several times. I have been a patient for years with no real problems but now I cant even get ahold of Dr. Soni. The phone line keeps directing me to a answering service which is not helpful about the situation. I've been trying to get a refill for 3 days with not even a call back from Dr. Soni or his office. I finally heard back from Dr. Soni only for him to tell me to find another doctor, which is fine, I was done with the office's unprofessionalism and Dr. Soni's. He told me that he will not refill my prescription, period. If he required an appointment I would of liked to be told that 5 days ago when I first called and was told me prescription was sent into the pharmacy. I'm embarrassed for Dr. Soni and he poor level of care for the mental health field. I regret going into his office years ago just to be thrown medication. read more

I would not recommend interpersonal psychiatry I caught them trying to scam $25 off of me after I've called twice to confirm that my insurance was covered through them they said yes I live in Eudora and I don't like leaving my home but I drove my son drove me all the way there just for them to tell me that I would have to pay $25 plus the Medicare because they didn't except my Medicaid it also goes with every single medical bill that Lawrence Kansas has sucks they're terrible they don't care about the patients, all they're looking for is an easy way to get money! I am disabled I have issues that I need to see people about but I will never use Lawrence medical anything again and I advise you guys to be very careful about going and seeing any Lawrence medical facilities read more

First of all, I'll say that Dr. Soni himself is fantastic, and all of my issues with Interpersonal Psychiatry are 100% due to their billing department and the intake nurse at their Stateline Rd. office. The intake nurse is rude, if nothing else, and generally unprofessional, and when anything is mentioned, the response is usually "The owner of the company says so" instead of anything actually usable. On several occasions, I've had to escalate to the main office in Lawrence, only to be told that yes, I am correct. The other issue I have, and this is a consistent one, is that they continually attempt to bill for charges that were covered according to my Explanation of Benefits statements. It's nickel-and-dime stuff, but it does add up, and fairly quickly. As of last count, I have a billing statement for roughly $30, which according to my Explanation of Benefits statements, I should not owe at all, and their billing department continually refuses to return my calls when I attempt to deal with it. read more

This doctor cancelled my appointment the day before I was to be seen due to a bill abandoning me. He sent me a text message claiming I had no appointment but he forgot he sends appointment reminders? He did this to me earlier this year too - refusing ti refill my antidepressants for about 3 weeks until I came to his office and pay him 240 dollars (his cost for 1 appointment) even though I was just seen 6 weeks beforehand. Seems to me this mans more interested in your money than your health. when I do get an appointment he talks to me less than five minutes. read more

Dr. Soni and his team have been incredibly helpful. They listen, they're helpful and caring, and I've seen significant benefit from the treatment options they have available. Most helpful to me were the GeneSight (TM) testing and the Brainsway (TM) TMS treatment for depression. After struggling for years with trial and error meds, with the proper med and the TMS treatments, I feel better than I have in 30 years! I always enjoy seeing Dr. Soni and he's been so encouraging. I highly recommend Dr. Soni and his staff at Interpersonal Psychiatry. Reading the negative reviews below, none of them are even close to my experience. Dr. Soni and his staff have always been very responsive. When I was in the depth of my depression, they were kind and understanding. I have had a number of minor issues over almost 2 years with Dr. Soni, every one of which can be attributed to clerical mistakes. I had a mistake in billing due to a change in insurance, which was rectified upon raising the issue with them. I have also had occasional problems getting in contact with the office and making prescription arrangements. Every time, they have made the appropriate efforts to fix the situation. By contrast, every meeting with Dr. Soni has been productive and he has been respectful, relatable, and welcoming. On one occasion, Dr. Soni was forced to ask a disgruntled patient to leave the office, against their wishes, the patient spilling their disagreement into the lobby. The exchange lead me to believe they were exhibiting med seeking behavior. To Dr. Soni's credit he pivotted immediately into my appointment, switching to compassionate doctor mode despite the mood a minute before. My life has improved a great deal since I began seeing Dr. Soni and I attribute a portion of that to this group. read more
