I buy the ingredients here. It's the closest Indian grocery to my house. The shop is clean. Staffed by friendly if painfully shy employees. The selection of goods is not overwhelming like in the giant Indian supermarkets of Berkeley or Los Angeles. I can always find what I need here at Bharat. The fresh produce section is small. The vegetables are usually pretty fresh. I buy fresh turmeric root here for 70% less money than Safeway. My guilty pleasure purchases here are in the freezer section. The samosas, biriyanis, roti, parottas, naan, kulchas call to me. Not the healthiest of items, but certainly better than American factory made breads. If you are from the sub-continent and live on this side of Roseville, you probably know this store. I actually prefer this store over the Reliance market on Fairway.

It was even warm when I purchased it, which made it seem like it had just been baked. However, when I got home, it became obvious that the bread was actually several days old and already stale. It seems like the bread may have been reheated to give the impression that it was fresh, which is very misleading to customers. If a product is not fresh, customers should be told the truth instead of being misled. Selling old bread while presenting it as fresh is not acceptable, and it makes me seriously question the overall quality and honesty

I had a great experience with a staff member yesterday named Robert. I was looking for a very specific item, and Robert was up for an adventure in search of it. We went all Carmen Sandiego around the joint and eventually found it! I completely uprooted Robert from what he was doing (stocking the refrigerated dairy case at the far end of the store), and he was so gracious about it. He was helpful, patient, and genuinely seemed happy to help me track down my elusive item. Great customer service!

But now go online and look... I know some of the prices are high, but then which store isn't anymore... But I do tend to buy only what's on sale unless I really need it... So I wrote my little list today and found it disturbing as most of the items that are on sale are located on the bottom shelf, especially the eggs that are on sale for 2.99. I'm 70 and even if I was younger, this would've been hard to get down to that bottom shelf to get the eggs without dropping them on the way up especially if somebody didn't close the packaging. I finally did manage to get them. And then I went to look for the Kellogg's cereal that was on sale. Same thing the only two that were marked on sale were at the very bottom... Decided to pass. Oh I remember another item was yogurt. I was looking for the fage ones and then saw the 10 for $10 advertisement for the tillamook and they're on the bottom... I started getting them and then I'm like I can't lean over that many times to get all 10 so I put the ones I had gotten back and bought the others that were still like almost at the bottom, just went shelf above them. But anyway, all in all, it's a nice story and everybody was Pleasant there and store very clean... I did buy something not on sale...a beautiful red onion I haven't seen a decent onion probably in about two or three years any other stores lol. All the produce looks fantastic when I need some I probably will be back.
