I thought this was just going to be a wonderful location, but the service, the room, and the amenities were all above expectations. We were traveling midweek, and were welcomed at the front desk by Gabby who got us checked in very quickly, and Willie who was kind enough to bring our bags directly to our room. Once we were in the room.. wow! The view was immediately eye catching, a study in the corner room (401), a large tv, desk, a makeup area, and a large bathroom. There is a bench seat at the window, so you can even sit and enjoy the view of the Midway and the unique buildings on the UChicago campus. The hotel is within walking distance to the Presidential center, and it's well shaded along the Midway. Since we spent a long day at the Presidential center, we stopped downstairs for dinner - the restaurant was excellent for both dinner and breakfast the next morning. I can't say enough good things about this hotel, and the wonderful staff. I look forward to returning to the area.

There was also a separate study with two comfy leather chairs and a whole wall of books for reading. The hotel also has a nice restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. ALL WORK & NO SLEEP…read more I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit IBM for a few meetings here. What impressed me most was the lobby walkway. It was curved and lined with amazing plants. In fact, it was so beautiful I walked past my elevator all the way to the end to enjoy it. I also learned from fellow Yelper Bill M, that the planters along the windows can also stop a speeding car. That kind of design would make Jack Bauer happy! We win! Once I got past the awe of the beautiful lobby, I made my way through security. This place is like an airport with metal detectors and X-Ray bag machines. I had to think to myself, do hotel guests have to go through here too? Because as a frequent traveler it would drive me crazy to go through TSA at my hotel, after dealing with TSA at the airport. I hear the cafeteria is great but I did not get to experience it. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to eat here. I arrived up at IBM and checked in at there receptionists desk. Everything was very typical for office space from this point on. I did like the history wall of IBM. It gave me something to read after I left the men's bathroom. There was also a glass room showcasing the IBM server. That was cool to see. I felt like William Shatner in the movie Airplane 2, "Can we get all these lights to blink at the same time?" (I am not sure if anyone ever saw part 2 of Airplane or if they even remembers a movie line from it.) After humoring myself, I decide to leave IBM and make my way back to the lobby. As I stood in the lobby, I had to walk through the curved tree walkway one more time because I did not know when I would be lucky enough to return. I was happy to get to experience this new building from the inside and hopefully I'll make a return visit one of these days.

I tried the made-to-order pasta (with rice noodles for gluten free diet) made fresh before my eyes. Then I saw the fresh made wraps and the sushi. Where else can you get this just outside your office door? Great location for car-free transportation. My group of seven stayed at Sentral this past weekend to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday. We also had two additional friends staying at a different hotel who visited briefly. We also listed the appropriate number of occupants on each room when each room was reserved. Night 1 (4/23/2026): Around 9 PM on Thursday, we entered the building with one member of our group who had just arrived and still had his luggage. Security immediately questioned him about whether he had checked in and if he had a room. We confirmed that he did. Later that evening, while waiting for an Uber, we politely asked the same security guard for recommendations in the city, and he completely ignored us. Night 2 (4/24/2026): After dinner, we returned to the hotel with our two visiting friends, making our group nine people. As soon as we walked in, the same security guard loudly demanded that we step aside and began aggressively enforcing a "3 people per room, 2 guests at a time" policy. He questioned us about how many rooms we had, demanded room numbers and names, and even asked people to raise their hands according to which room they were staying in. We were confused but complied. This interrogation happened publicly as other guests walked in and out, which was humiliating. Once it became clear that we were not violating any policy, we proceeded to the elevator--only for the guard to follow us and claim there had been a complaint about us "sneaking people in," followed by a quiet apology. If the disrespect was loud and public, the apology should have been as well. Minutes later, while waiting for an Uber, we observed the same guard allowing other groups to enter freely without asking for keys or questioning them at all. Throughout the stay: The treatment did not improve. Front desk staff repeatedly failed to greet us or respond when we spoke, while engaging normally with other guests. At one point, while simply waiting in the lobby, we were again questioned as if we did not belong there. As a group of young Black professionals who were respectful, well-behaved, and not causing any disturbance, this experience was not only embarrassing--it was deeply unsettling. I love Chicago, but I will never stay at this property again, and I will not recommend it to others.

This was a great hostel until the manager overstepped. When someone runs a hotel or hostel, it is…read moretheir job to take the customers' money and move on. The reason I am not leaving such a stellar review is that the "manager" of the establishment overstepped their job title. I have stayed at this hostel for a few weeks now and I was attempting to book another night when i was told that was not a possibility because I am too "aggressive." For context, I am Black American and the manager is White American. If by aggressive they mean I'm a Black American Woman with a set of issues that most people couldn't even fathom, then suuuuuuure. I myself have managed multi-million, and a couple of times, multi-billion dollar, grossing companies. If I were so aggressive, I don't think I would have gotten 100+ employees to follow my lead. I had no problem with the manager up until this point, but it is not fair to a paying customer that spends most of their day outside of the hostel to be labeled as aggressive and then be told they cannot pay to have a roof over their head because people simply can't be adults. Grow up! The world is full of people you don't get along with. I'd also like to mention that I seriously injured myself in the bathroom because no matter what you do, the shower floor(s) always get wet and do not properly drain. I did in fact slip and fall while heading to the shower and seriously injured my back in the process . I brought this incident up to the manager, along with another guest that states the same thing; that the bathroom is dangerous. However, there has been no follow through to ensure this does not happen to guest in the future as the manager PROMISED. I'm young and can recuperate, but there are older guests at this hostel that might end up in the hospital if they took such a tumble. I only stayed at this location so long because of the convenience and what I thought was the reasonableness of the manager, but I have noticed that said manager gets a little bit too personal with guests which is a business red flag.
