Anyways, a conference for Alzheimer's, 'Releasing the Silence' was here and I was volunteering. The venue is nicely set up, and organized. We were on the first level, and as buses dropped off attendees, they were met with a registration table in the front hall, restrooms (large and clean), and entrances to the conference room. The open hallway with windows and artwork are very inviting and brightly lit, though it was a nice sunny day so looking out at Halsted street was very pleasant. On a crummy weather day I do not know if blinds/shutters are available to block out cool air and gray skies. Tables and chairs were set up for attendees, tables and signage was set up for vendors. Coffee/tea and breakfast with fruit and pastries was set up in buffet styles. I think the acoustics were ok; the room was large but not too packed, plenty of space between vendors. I was able to put my stuff in a back room. Things got a little hectic around lunch. Not all the food arrived at once, but that may be on the caterers not the venue. Tables were cleared and cleaned from buffet food in a timely manner. I would be ok to hold/attend a conference here, but a food fest like the other reviewers described? I'm hesitant about that.

The truth of the statement revealed itself as vaunted ceilings gave this cavernous room an aura of grandeur and the feeling of tradition. There were beings engaged in erudite studies with an inflexible concentration on laptops, notebooks, and in the back were old men going back and forth on the chessboards. It was still and had the eerie silence of a church chapel and sunbeams flowed in from the windows above. What an alien universe and there I was with a large foil tin carrying thirty of the best chicken wings Chicago had to offer. After the religious pilgrimage to Wings Around the World, Reuben H and Aurore L had the good sense to take us all to Reynolds where we wouldn't be bothered and be allowed to worship our wings in peace. For the moment, Reuben went to fetch pop while Aurore went off as well. I was alone and a heretic - a trespasser sneaking in and using up space that I had no right to, but the chess players were very old and had no business being there either. Then it came to me that everyone was allowed in and Reynolds was there for all to share, no identification required! Lined on the walls are large portraits showing various trustees of the University of Chicago. Lists of past Presidents line the wall and the fashion progression from long beards and robes to finely made designer suits and shaved faces led us to mock one portrait - he definitely wanted some of our chicken wings! We cracked open our wings and uncapped our pops only to find that the Cherry Pepsi was expired! While we munched and crunched on our chicken wings, nary a soul turned their heads nor noticed what fine dining we were helping ourselves to. The unbending concentration of the other people in the hall sustained itself except for the old chess players who all got up and went out for a smoke. We ate undisturbed and worked to get rid of the evidence. On our way out a young college student declared that he was going to have to retake high school chemistry. We laughed about it and then I thought that they were right - It really was just like Harry Potter!

This beautiful space can be used for more than weddings. The venue itself was the perfect size. The fact that we didn't have to bring our own tables or chairs is such a huge plus. And the fact that there's a huge free parking lot for the venue is enough to want to book the place. Beautiful interiors, comfortable temperature. Everyone loved it. I hope to do another event here!

My group of seven stayed at Sentral this past weekend to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday. We also had two additional friends staying at a different hotel who visited briefly. We also listed the appropriate number of occupants on each room when each room was reserved. Night 1 (4/23/2026): Around 9 PM on Thursday, we entered the building with one member of our group who had just arrived and still had his luggage. Security immediately questioned him about whether he had checked in and if he had a room. We confirmed that he did. Later that evening, while waiting for an Uber, we politely asked the same security guard for recommendations in the city, and he completely ignored us. Night 2 (4/24/2026): After dinner, we returned to the hotel with our two visiting friends, making our group nine people. As soon as we walked in, the same security guard loudly demanded that we step aside and began aggressively enforcing a "3 people per room, 2 guests at a time" policy. He questioned us about how many rooms we had, demanded room numbers and names, and even asked people to raise their hands according to which room they were staying in. We were confused but complied. This interrogation happened publicly as other guests walked in and out, which was humiliating. Once it became clear that we were not violating any policy, we proceeded to the elevator--only for the guard to follow us and claim there had been a complaint about us "sneaking people in," followed by a quiet apology. If the disrespect was loud and public, the apology should have been as well. Minutes later, while waiting for an Uber, we observed the same guard allowing other groups to enter freely without asking for keys or questioning them at all. Throughout the stay: The treatment did not improve. Front desk staff repeatedly failed to greet us or respond when we spoke, while engaging normally with other guests. At one point, while simply waiting in the lobby, we were again questioned as if we did not belong there. As a group of young Black professionals who were respectful, well-behaved, and not causing any disturbance, this experience was not only embarrassing--it was deeply unsettling. I love Chicago, but I will never stay at this property again, and I will not recommend it to others.

There are elevators between floors with comfortable chairs a plenty. I attend a chair yoga class there which is ideal. It is held in the basement with great ventilation. I'm so glad I discovered this place!
