We used the quarry as we needed an event space at the last minute to hold my sisters repast. We booked the smaller room to hold about 80 people and the owner was really nice and accommodating. On the day of the repast I arrived first to get the room ready for the guest to arrive. I walked in and was utterly surprised the tables need to be thrown away and rebought. The 6 foot serving tables were not sturdy at all. And the tables where the guest sat were horrible. Thank my lucky stars I brought my own black table clothes. The place was HOT. They claimed to have had the air on but it was an 85 degree day and cooler outside then in there. The shared kitchen was ok. But the freezer is full of old food. The manger was abit rude and unprofessional as someone parked by the door and we advised her we would have them move. She advised they could park in the parking lot she would open it as a courtesy but it's normally $75 an hour to park there . She also made mention that the shared kitchen was $25 a hour. After she was done with her ranting. I mention to her that those items were included in our contract. She paused and recanted her statement. I totally understand what they are doing in this neighborhood and I commend them for it. However, the hourly price they are charging does not match up with the space. I'm hoping they continue to work on this location and improve it! Let me start of by saying that the jazz band was absolutely amazing! The band was the absolute best part of my group's evening at Quarry Event Center. The worst part was the lack of customer service by management. Very disrespectful and dishonest. I have been asked by several friends for my opinion of this establishment and I would never recommend Quarry. While I will not return to Quarry ever again I do appreciate their efforts to bring live entertainment to a very rough crime-filled part of Chicago. Staff was professional but again management was aweful. I truly wish more black owned businesses would realize that they are turning away many blacks from supporting our own when we are treated like respect, our time and money dont matter. Overall a disappointment. 2 stars are only given because of the extreme talent from the band. Quarry by itself would receive negative 3 stars. read more

This hidden treasure must be one of the top 3 Jazz/Blues Clubs in Chicago. One night is better than the other. Food is just delicious and the crowd is very welcoming. While Friday night Jazz is often a full house, I think Monday night Blues is the best kept secret in town. read more

My wife and I have been going to the Quarry fairly regularly for a couple of months and have always seen high quality jazz. We recently started having the vegetarian meal which has been outstanding with fresh, flavorful ingredients. It's like stepping back in time to an elegant supper club. I had the pleasure of going to the Friday night jazz set. It was a wonderful evening, complete with delicious food and tasty drinks. The entire vibe was warm and welcoming. The music was on par with what is heard at venues on the north side but with a more personal touch. The jazz impresarios put their heart into it and expressed appreciation for having something so awesome on the south side. The Quarry has given new life to the south side entertainment scene. I haven't been to Monday night blues but plan to go and make the Quarry my go-to entertainment spot. Now, I don't have to travel Downtown, pay exorbitant charges for food and drink and top that off with whopping parking rates. Thankfully, parking at the Quarry is free. And for those concerned, the Quarry has FREE parking and there is no concern about safety because there is security there. Yvette Moyo is the inspiration behind the Quarry, the energy behind its success, and the fulfillment of her dream. It is a WONDER and the embodiment of a dream come true for her. I absolutely LOVE The Quarry. The music is amazing, the food is delectable and, best of all, its right in my neighborhood of South Shore! Kudos to Yvette Moyo for being a pioneer in the renaissance of our long-neglected lakeside community. Its a great place to rent for private events or just to reserve a table for their celebrated Friday night jazz sets. The big picture looks bright for The Quarry! Under new management. All I can say is I just saw a live jazz band at The Quarry that was really, really good. I wish I had their name but the space is pretty raw so there is very limited promotional copy. The rather intimate space is neat and has surprisingly good acoustics. The bathrooms are clean - and remained that way throughout the night. There is plenty of free parking. The food was tasty and well-priced for the portions but service execution, a critical detail for this kind of supper club venue, was subpar. Wait staff was visibly outmatched, perhaps due to a larger turnout than expected, and no one was taking drink orders. However, The Quarry is a space you visit to patronize local businesses and celebrate the wondrous artistic talent found all over the City. Be prepared to overlook some of the details.
