Well this time I was here to actually buy a BOOK! Thuy and I walked the Square a few nights ago, looking in windows. When we passed Arts & Letters Bookstore, we spotted a book we wanted to buy for our newest nephew. The book? "The Little Puppy (part of My Little Animal Friend)" by Nicola Killen. The clerk who helped us, Brandy, was very friendly and helpful. I asked about local authors, and learned there is a section just for them. In the same area, is books specific to Granbury. Very cool little find. I also bought some Granbury themed stickers for random gifts for random friends. I also joined the free shoppers club (if it has a real name, it slipped my mind), where after spending $100, you get $10 of your next purchase. I now know what people are getting for gifts next year... Books on Granbury, written by Granburians!

Not only is it 100x better than the other, but it's just such a pleasant place to be. It's quaint, but full of what you need. Basics, some good filler, and no real fat. A great selection of currently available comics is available on the main wall, and just in front of that are your standard boxed back-issues. PLENTY of trade paperbacks and graphic novels are available, and collectibles (like figures, statues, etc.) are shelved around the store. Subscription services are available to customers at no cost (with two minor exceptions regarding high priced items), making it easy for soldiers whose schedules don't allow for consistent and frequent visits to get the titles they want without having to worry about them getting crammed into a mailbox. The best part of AHC&G is the owner. Earl is an extremely friendly person who knows his customers on a first name basis. He is polite, treats his customers with respect, and goes out of his way to make them happy. He is very knowledgeable about comics, and when he didn't have an answer to a question I asked, which is a rare occurrence, he has always enthusiastically found one for me. I don't much enjoy shopping, but I enjoy the time I spend in his shop looking for new titles and having good conversations. I can't recommend this place enough.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted and asked if we needed help finding anything. I asked about anything written by local authors and the staff IMMEDIATELY led me around the store to about 5 different options. I chose a couple of those suggestions and a few other books after browsing around myself, including a "blind date" book. I think the blind date book was offered for a great price. The vibe inside was also just very cute and I will definitely come back when I visit again in the future!
